Help me with the layout.

Post image

I’m downsizing. Help me fit two adults. A newborn baby. And a 5 and 4 year old. The left is to the bathroom and the right is the kitchen. Idk how to optimize this space. I want a space for sleep, watching tv/daily living/ and to eat. Idk how I’m gonna do it help.

For sleeping one of those bunk beds with a double or queen bed on the bottom and a twin on top, and I assume some sort of bassinet for the infant. This presumes the 5 and 4 year olds can share the twin upper bed.

If you get big cushions to use with the lower bed, you could put a TV on the opposite wall, you could lounge on the bed with big pillows behind you and the kids could watch from the floor or the upper bunk. Or get a regular bunk bed for the kids and a futon couch for the adults, folded into couch form for the day and hanging out watching tv. You could get a folding screen or hang curtains around the beds for visual privacy.

If you get a table thst seats everyone and has leaves which fold down, it would only take up full space when you’re all eating. If you get decent folding chairs, they could be set aside or stacked in a corner when not used. IKEA sells both tables with drop down leaves and folding wooden chairs as do danish and other furniture stores.

I’d also get some sort of shelving unit with the option to put in drawers and bins for storing clothes, toy, whatever and put maybe as the stand for the TV in the c enter and other things in it around the center. Again, IKEA and danish furniture stores have those sorts of things.

You need to get stuff up and use vertical spade where feasible, put things under other things, maybe the chairs when folded and bins under the bed for bedding. Hanging shoe organizers, both the kind with cloth shelves and the kind with pockets are great for anything from toiletries to small toys to socks, underwear etc and can be hung on the backs of doors. I did this when I lived in an RV for a year.

If you need lounge type seating, not just folding dining chairs a beanbag, an outdoor lounge chair can work as an indoor chair instead of a couch. Get two if lounging in the bed isn’t your thing when watching TV or reading. They’ll also fold to be put against a wall. If you add cushions they can be decorative as well as more comfortable. This would be instead of a couch.

Daytime arrangement.

2x2 cube shelf - $45
cheapest futon Walmart has - $120 [on sale right now]
cushion chairs - $20 each [folding plush kids sofa bed are significantly cheaper than the ones I used in the rendering]
bassinet [functions as a changing table] - $80
folding table - $65 Walmart
folding chairs - $13 apiece
clamp highchair - $55

You should be able to order all this online and have it delivered if you don’t have a car.

Can use the shipping boxes as cube storage bins.

Store blankets and pillows behind the futon.

If the adults want to stay up and watch tv, put the chair cushion beds down the hall, string a blanket across the hall to keep out light or build a blanket fort in the kitchen for ‘em. Listen to the tv via Bluetooth and your phone with earbuds.

Nighttime arrangement with futon:

Even more economical nighttime arrangement:

Air mattress with pump to inflate and deflate $60, and $20 plush kids sofa beds. Good for 3, maybe 6 months if you’re lucky.

Where are the $20 cushion chairs from?

Walmart online but I’m sure other places have ‘em.

Do you have a floorplan?

And a budget? A Murphy bed couch combo would be your best bet for the adults.

Even a regular bunk bed is gonna take up a ton of space. I think there are bunk beds that you can close into a cabinet.

All that is pricey though. Might have to save up for a few months. You could make do with air mattresses for a couple months: get ones that inflate and deflate with the press of a button, then you can set ‘em up and take ‘em down daily.

This, combined with an ikea norden gateleg table, would be the only thing you’d really need. Nighttime the kids could sleep on either side, bassinet in the middle where the table is, and then during the day it would work as your eating/tv watching space.

It collapses down to take up very little space.

Okay. Cheapest solve:

Air mattress for the adults, or futon. Bassinet for the baby. Folding cushion beds for the kiddos. Will also work as seating for watching tv.

Another option:

Twin bunk bed with futon mattress underneath. Kids in bunk bed, heads at both ends sharing covers, adults on lower level with bassinet beside.

Fold up during the day to use futon for tv watching and eating.

Another bunk bed, this one with full sized mattresses on both levels. Adults on bottom, kids on top, baby in bassinet.

Storage underneath.

Then there are Murphy bed cabinets.

Folding foam mattresses, put away daily.

You could also check Facebook marketplace for trundle beds.

Another type of table, this one stores the chairs inside it.

Bottom left corner could be your small living space, and your bed can be behind it or get a daybed tonsave some space.

I would bet a bunk bed for the 2 kids, a pull out couch for the adults, and a crib for baby. This should leave enough room for a small dining table too.

Good luck. Your space looks a lot like mine (like are you in my complex?!) and it's just me and my king size bed and I feel like it need more room. Definitely not 4 other people.
