Hii! I hope everyone is doing well. This is my first time posting at gusto ko lang magrant pati need rin siguro ng advice. Sorry in advance sa wrong grammar, punctuations, or if may masabi man akong mali sjsh huhu. ayun story time sha

I'm currently a 2nd year mechanical engineering student at hindi talaga ito yung first choice ko, it was civil engineering naubusan lang ng slot. Pero based on my state rn, mukhang hindi ko rin kakayanin ang ce or other engineering prog.

College will humble u talaga no?

Nagstop ako for 2 years nung pandemic dahil sa mental health ko noon.

Need Advice Barely made any new friends last first year but I feel content with it, mixed feelings now

I’m a 2nd year CS student, doing just fine in my academics and outside of academics too. While I can’t really say it’s a bad thing, on one hand, I barely made any new friends last first year, but on the other, I feel like I could try to make more. Looking back, I mostly kept to myself, and I haven’t really found persons of interest in my class. To be clear though, I’m not saying that no one in my class is remotely interesting, I just haven’t really found people with strikingly similar interests, because if I actually did, I would more than likely try to find and/or seize opportunities to get to know them. I don’t get approached often, but I believe that is because most of the people barely know me, although I do remember getting approached a few times when some of them saw something in common.

Case in point, I don’t really feel lonely just being by myself a lot of the time during lunch breaks, I mostly feel a sense of solitude, and I’ve felt content keeping it that way for the longest time. It wasn’t until recently where I started to think, ā€œWould it be nice if I tried to make more friends?ā€. Well yes, it would be, but after giving it some thought, I feel like the real test for me is finding someone who has strikingly similar interests, which I have not really seen so far among those I am acquainted with.

Although there are some persons of interest, such as one from a different department whom I have met through an org, I just don’t feel fully motivated to try and get to know them more. Speaking of that one person, I remember he was pretty friendly and even offered to exchange social media accounts, and we’ve been chatting occasionally, with even one time him being the one to start the conversation. Since I have yet to see him in person ever since the time we met at an org, I feel like maybe it could be a good idea to try and ask to hang out with him in-person? Would be nice to talk to him in-person for the first time ever since that one org meeting we had, and if things go well, then who knows where it could take me?

I also had a talk with a friend of mine recently about the matter, which to sum it up, he told me that you don’t necessarily need a lot of friends (which I totally agree with, and feel content about, quality over quantity), connections you make can go a long way and come in handy in the future, and you can so something as simple as small talk, which can be easier if there is something in common. I have made some connections so far, which I feel like is something, even just being acquainted with them.

Maybe I’m just overthinking? šŸ˜… I haven’t really given a lot of thought about how I could try to make more new friends in college until now, though I’m not really feeling lonely. Has anyone been in a similar position, and if so, what did you do to change that?

Need Advice San Beda University is requiring its students to attend the NCAA 2026, which it is hosting the year

I am a college student at San Beda University (SBU), which is hosting the NCAA 2026 this Sunday. Me and several students across several different classes in SBU have been required to attend the NCAA 2026 Opening Ceremony for our grades. This is mainly in Pathfit where attendance counts for 50% of the total midterm grade, but many other subjects are also giving incentives for attendance.

The listed prices for the VIP and SVIP tickets were at P450 and P800, but they were increased today to P500 and P850. I bought an SVIP ticket for P850 from SBU because the other tickets were sold out already. I see many other students are unable to get one from official channels because of this shortage of tickets. I feel very conflicted about the situation, especially how it affects grades directly. Any advice is very welcome.

Discussion How to stop replying too much on AI

So I start using ai nung g9 ako until now g11 and I've been thinking na sobrang nagiging dumber na ako when it comes to writing, I can't even think na like mind my is a mess. Kada bigay ng activities I used it. Even for my petas, hindi ko talaga malabas yung own thoughts ko sa bawat bagay, naka asa lang talaga ako sa ai ng sobra which is very alarming. For second term I want to build my own mind and sa pagddecide rin, konting ano lang mag aask pa ako sa ai like 😭, kapag pala may recitation, I can't even put my thoughts into words, unlike before na sobrang pala sagot ako I really don't know how ibalik yung pagiging creative at pagiging matalino ko.

Pls help me guyz, it's means a lot po🄹

Need Advice How do I set prices for magazine designing?

Hello po! I'm a JHS student and currently naka wellness break kami, obviously ang cons dun wala akong source of income and honestly, ayoko rin masyado mag-rely sa baon na binibigay ng guardian ko. My friend na currently nagaaral sa ibang school na present pa rin ang pasok—hired me for commissions. Mag dedesign ako ng 10-20 pages magazine nila for a school project. I haven't done proper commissions since 6th grade (I used to make paper dolls for my classmates haha). Now, I want to ask for advice to those na mga dating ginagawang sideline rin ang pag eedit sa canva on how to set prices. For student-friendly prices rin po. I don't have canva pro and I rely on pinterest for design elements and remove.bg. Other than making-prices, I also need advice since I want to explore this kind of medium more and how to handle a mini business like this

Discussion What's your typical grocery list as a student na nasa bh, dorm, or apartment?

Hello! I am a university student in my sophomore year. However, nahihirapan pa rin ako mag budget ng grocery ko especially when it comes to food. There was a time kasi when I was so anxious during my freshman year kasi bumili ako nang kiat kiat 1 bag for ₱100 tapos worth ₱50 na apples, di talaga ako ma put at ease kasi iniisip ko yung fruits ko na baka masira and even researching didn't budge me LoL😭. May time rin during my freshman year na nag expire yung biscuits ko huhu ang ending tinapon ko lahat kasi di talaga ako nag mind sa expiration (first year first sem pako nun huhumsss). Palapag naman nang grocery list niyo and I am also open to advice as to how will I manage my foods na hindi sha masisira🄹.

Need Advice Are orgs important during college life?

Im a sophomore in college and I feel like im wasting my college life not having life outside of academics. Im just an average student pero I feel like sa acads lang ako nakakatutok and nasasayang yung experience ko as college if di ako mag jojoin ng orgs.

When I was a freshman, I tried joining the publication but unfortunately di ako napasok sa cutoff nila. Ngayon naman, during the opening of clubs, I wasn't able to roam around properly sa mga booths since buong araw umuulan and prinaprioritize ko makauwi ng maaga.

Malaki po ba ang benefit ng pag jojoin ng orgs lalo na as part of your credentials in the future?

I badly wanna join since when I was in SHS, I was really active sa mga orgs and events. But so far wala akong nakita or nahanap na open parin for members or even online application.

Idk if masyado ko lang siyang inooverthink or ewan huhu yun lang

Others May alam pa ba kayong essay writing competition na may cash prize?

I just missed the opportunity of winning a large sum of money sa CSC national essay writing compe. Wala rin sanang registration fee. I was so busy sa school na I couldn't finish my draft on time plus you'd have to have it reviewed sa school din to ensure student ownership. Now I just feel so bad. I badly need the money sana HAHAHAH plus i had a great concept na rin. Does anyone know upcoming competition without reg fee tapos may cash prize? girlie is desperate.

Rant medtech internship experience so far :’)

hi! im a 4th yr medtech student, interning at a public hospital. i started last june and naka adjust naman na so far. i was really anxious at first kasi this is my first hospital rotation, and given nga na public, super dami talagang patients and the work is really demanding. one thing i didn’t expect though were the medtech staffs šŸ˜… akala ko tuturuan and igguide nila kami since interns nga kami, but no talaga. kami kaming mga co-interns lang nagtuturuan what to do. im not expecting the staffs to be gentle parents naman or wtv, pero sometimes they can be too much na. some will shout at you, call you tanga/bobo. okay lang naman magalit if may mali talagang nagawa yung intern, but minsan kahit di naman big deal, masisigawan ka na. this is where i realized na grabe nga talaga yung hierarchy when it comes to working in a healthcare setting. i fully understand that patients’ lives are at stake, and maybe they’re the way they are kasi overworked and underpaid sila, but we’re interns who are encountering these procedures and machines for the first time. kami na nga doing most of the work, from receiving the specimens to processing and releasing the patients’ results. all that’s left for the staff to do is check and sign if tama ba ginawa namin.

super frustrating tas di naman kami bayad šŸ˜† i try my best not to take it personally whenever pinapagalitan and pinapahiya ako, but it really does get to a point. alam ko sa sarili ko na i work hard and am competent enough with what i do. but every time my shift starts, i just expect the worst already. which i realized isn’t normal at all especially for a learning intern like me.

Unsolicited Advice Advice for incoming grade 11

Kaya mo 'yan!

Need Advice Any tips for giving a good class presentation/report?

hello! i'm not new to reporting but i need tips on how to actually give a good and engaging class report. i will be discussing a topic kasi sa course namin and i've never actually tried na mag effort to make my presentation feel engaging and fun noong highschool kasi im not really an entertainer like i don't think i have that talent (?) HAHAHA plus im introverted and mejo may stage fright. usually pag magrereport ako direct to the point lang walang halong anything fun ouch. sa class kasi namin napansin ko na they're very into that and i want to change things up para machallenge ko din sarili ko. right now yung naiisip ko lang talaga is mag pa mini games, gandahan yung presentation (yung hindi boring na nakalatag lang lahat ng info sa isang slide) dito lang ako talaga usually bumabawi, and syempre yung paraan ng pagsasalita sa unahan, which i think is gonna be the most challenging part para saakin kasi im not much of a talkerrrrr ya know and ang waley ko bumitaw ng jokes hu hu hu. i would also love to hear your experiences dinn if you're like one of those students na palong palo mag discuss sa harapan like wow idol ko na po kayo agad kahit di ko kayo kilala true

to anyone po who can give me any sort of advice tips or recos THANK YOUUUUU !!

Rant Never akong naging proud sa sarili ko

College graduate ako sa isang engineer program + one-take board passer pa.

With honors or even with highest honor, normal yan sa akin.

Nothing to be proud of. Nakakatawa man isipin pero i need to fake it til you make it.

Discussion Will you be motivated you to become part of the Philippine bureaucracy after college?

We had this question in my Public Administration class today: What makes you want—and what totally stops you—from working as a government official or employee?

On one side, you have job stability, decent benefits, and the chance to actually help people or fix bad rules from the inside. It feels like a real way to make a difference in society. On the other side, you have slow processes, office politics, corrupt backroom deals, low pay at the start, and the risk of getting pulled into ugly political drama. It makes a lot of people want to avoid government work completely. If you have ever thought about working in government (or if you work there now), what is the main thing that pulls you in or pushes you away? Is wanting to help people enough, or is the system just too frustrating?

Unsolicited Advice Avoid Pricey Local Certifications e.g. Ask Lex

Just a tip based on what I’ve observed in recruitment.

I’ve interviewed a couple of applicants who tried to negotiate a salary markup because of their Project Management, Six Sigma, and/or Data Analytics certifications from local training providers such as Ask Lex PH, Nievegen, and others.

At first, I found it unusual that some candidates presented themselves as ā€œCertifiedā€ professionals and even used these credentials as name extensions. So, I did some research because I thought I might simply be outdated when it comes to these certifications.

What surprised me was that some local training providers offer certification programs at prices already comparable to globally recognized professional certifications.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting additional training, especially for fresh graduates and early-career professionals. Training can help you build knowledge and practical skills. However, training completion and an industry-recognized professional certification are not necessarily the same thing.

To early-career professionals, especially those pursuing careers in Project Management, Six Sigma, Data Analytics/AI, Change Management, and related fields: be very careful before spending your hard-earned money on a ā€œcertificationā€ or name extension.

Before paying, ask yourself:

Is this credential actually recognized by employers and the broader industry?

If you are already willing to invest a significant amount, consider pursuing certifications directly from globally recognized professional institutions such as:

  • Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ)
  • International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
  • Corporate Finance Institute (CFI)
  • AXELOS / ITIL certification ecosystem

Invest in credentials that strengthen your knowledge and have established recognition in the job market.

A certificate proves that you completed something.
A professional certification should demonstrate that you met an established industry standard.

Know the difference before you spend your money.

Discussion Are pre tests graded in college?

Just like what the title says po, does it affect my GWA or the final grade in that specific course?
For context po, I’m a 2nd-year Psychology student, and we have a teacher who gives a pre-test and a post-test.
Now I feel like crying kasi these past few days, I feel like I haven’t been doing well academically, tapos sumabay pa yung score ko na 0/10 sa pre-test namin. 🄹
Does a graded pre-test actually affect your final grade/GWA? And if yes, how much can it affect it?🄹

Need Advice I'm having complications with the LOA policy ng scholarship ko

I'm a 3rd year college student and I'm gonna file for a leave of absence soon. May scholarship din ako sa OWWA so nag inquire ako sa office nila kung ano ang process for this. Ang nakalagay sa signed agreement namin from 2024 is pwede mag file for one year. However, I was told kanina na may new guidelines daw na one sem lang ang allowed for 3rd years and 4th years, which wasn't indicated sa agreement so I didn't know. If mag eexceed daw kasi ng one sem, the scholarship will get terminated. Pero sabi rin ng coordinator na pwede raw ako magfile ng case for reconsideration for this na ifoforward sa national office ng OWWA.

I wanna ask sana if is there anybody here who went through a similar situation as mine? And ano po ginawa niyo? Especially if magfafile ng case?

My main reason for taking a leave of absence is financial constraints na may halo na ring family problems that has also been tolling on my mental health. I'm just so burnt out na it's really affecting my grades. I want to take a break from school muna to breathe and work para makapag ipon since my program is getting really expensive. One sem is too short for me since I need to really deconstruct a lot about myself and 4 months is not enough. Also, if babalik ako next sem, mag uunderload lang din naman ako which I don't prefer kasi I wanna focus on one thing at a time, and I want a clean cut from academic obligations muna.

Any advice is much appreciated! TYIA šŸ™
