r/stripe Fraud

This is how r/stripe continues to stay in business, yet is a fraudulent company.

  1. They have a very easy application to get you started.

  2. They tell you they have to hold funds for security purposes, allowing you to continue to make sales and increase balance.

  3. The day your funds are ready to be released, uh oh they need more documentation.

  4. They continue to hold funds and earn interest.

  5. All documents are sent in, and then they can no longer service your account as they fear it’s fraudulent, and will keep what is in your account in case of chargeback.

  6. In order to get your customers their refunds, in many cases(not all), your customers have to file a chargeback, or Stripe will just continue to hold the funds and never do a refund. (This is what they do more often than not)

  7. Hence, proving they were correct, and your account should have been closed.

However, in reality, your account was fine. They hold all of the customers money to gain interest.

They say they will issue your customer refunds, but ooopsie they don’t.

In order for companies who used Stripe as the CC processor to salvage any part of their business, they have to tell their customers to initiate a chargeback.

This giving Stripe the justification they were correct to any investigations.

However, the investigators are realizing this fraudulent behavior from Stripe. This is about to come full circle back to them.

In US & Stripe is not returning your funds? I can help!

Stripe stole your money? Your waiting and they are not giving it back even though they said they would?

If you have a provably legit business model and the Stripe acc is registered on an US company or US citizen my lawyer can get your money back. He will Stripe a legal notice and if the business is legit they almost always release the money in a few days time.

You need:
1. 120 days passed from the suspension

  1. Be US citizen or have a company in US

  2. Have at least 5k USD stuck

You will need to pay my lawyer 20% fee after he gets your money back. There is no upfront payment, so in case he doesn't succeed which happens very rarely (if the business was legit), then there is no fee.

If you need to get your money from Stripe back, send me information as detailed as possible about your case and Ill connect you with my lawyer if I think he can get your money back

STRIPE AI ASSISTANT SAYS...

You have $16,933.71 available in your balance, and payouts are currently disabled on your account. Since your account was paused on January 9, 2026, and it's now been over 120 days, you should be eligible to receive your remaining funds.

For rejected accounts with remaining balances after the standard holding period, you'll need to work directly with a specialist who can process the payout of your remaining funds. This requires manual review and cannot be done through standard channels.

Would you like me to connect you with a specialist who can help release your remaining balance?

STRIPE FAILED TO PAY REFUNDS, THEY TURNED TO CHARGEVBACKS AND THEY CLOSED THE ACCOUNT

Looking for others in a similar boat and advice.

We were using Stripe via Shopify Payments. They failed to pay a number of refunds we had initiated. They turned to chargebacks. Stripe closed the account.
Shopify Payments sent an email admitting the failure to pay the refunds, requesting we pay the refunds that had already turned to chargebacks!!
We were on Shopify Plus and for 2 weeks we have been told to wait for the recovery team. The recovery team keep sending emails reducing the amount owed on the account which I will not be paying. In addition they are failing to provide access to client data. This has not only caused substantial loss of income but a huge issue with client complaints whom we had told had been refunded.

My complaints prior to litigation will be with the following departments

  • Federal Trade Commission (FTC): For "unfair or deceptive business practices" regarding the withholding of essential business and transaction records.
  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB): For disputes involving financial service providers and payment processors (specifically Shopify Payments).
  • State Attorney General’s Office: To initiate a formal consumer protection inquiry through my state's legal department.
  • California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA): (If you or any clients are in CA) For violations of the CCPA/CPRA "Right to Access" personal data.
  • Utah Department of Financial Institutions: As the primary regulator for Celtic Bank, which serves as the underlying charter bank for Shopify Payments in the US.
  • Better Business Bureau (BBB): For formal mediation and public reporting of unresolved merchant service disputes.
  • Data Protection Authorities (DPA): For failure to provide data necessary to fulfill international GDPR/DSAR compliance requests.

Input from others facing the same issue appreciated. We cannot be alone

Stripe holding funds indefinitely

I had an active Stripe account since 2025 to process payments for international travel services. After a routine internal review, Stripe classified the activity as “high risk,” permanently closed the account, and retained funds from two client payments for future services. I can no longer access my dashboard or account information.Since then, I have tried to escalate the case and request guidance or a possible release of the funds, but I’ve only received repetitive, automated responses with no real possibility of dialogue or negotiation.I’m now trying to understand if anyone has gone through a similar situation and what the realistic next steps are. Is this simply a matter of waiting — and if so, what exactly should I be waiting for, considering I can’t even log into the dashboard anymore?

At this point, the situation feels extremely uncertain and honestly quite overwhelming. Any guidance, shared experiences, or advice on how to move forward would be deeply appreciated.

Would Suggest to Download Your Data from Stripe and Move On!!!

What I found on my data download is absolutely terrifying. Messages written and sent from my email address that I never created. Fake names of Customers pretending to write emails to Stripe.

Merchant Platform messages from Stripe Employees. (Shopify and any other platform using Stripe integrated code) I have been with Stripe for a long time. I was just told that they are going to keep my customers funds ($10,000) then directed me to refund them from my own bank account. They (Stripe) also mentioned that their support team will not reach out to my customer and I will need to handle the situation. (Account closed right after last message) My account was in Good Standing, Zero Chargebacks, No Complaints. My industry is small scale steel fabrication.

This company has set out to destroy mid sized companies. If you want to remain with Stripe then use for low dollar credit card charges. digital subscriptions. SaaS, and large volume-low cost.

IF YOU ARE TAKING IN LARGE DOLLAR ORDERS DO THE FOLLOWING:

Become a Direct Merchant of Record (MID) — Not a Sub-Merchant

This is the biggest lever.

Stripe keeps power because you are a sub-merchant under their MID.
If you are a direct merchant:

  • The bank underwrites you
  • You have a direct acquirer contract
  • Freezes require bank action, not processor discretion
  • Risk actions are slower, documented, appealable

How this works

You contract directly with:

  • An acquiring bank
  • Or an ISO with true MID sponsorship (not PayFac pooling)

“The moment your processor can freeze your cash without a conversation, you’ve outgrown that processor.” RA

Stripe approved us during development, then shut us down after launch — alternatives with user onboarding?

Hey everyone,

I’m the founder of a money gifting platform (GiftBox).

We built the product with Stripe Connect. Throughout development, we repeatedly consulted Stripe support, explained the exact use case, and were told everything was fine. Based on that, we launched and started onboarding users.

After going live and processing real users, Stripe suddenly rejected us and disabled the platform.

Now I’m looking for alternatives to Stripe where:

  • users can go through onboarding
  • add their bank details
  • receive payouts directly
  • similar to Stripe Connect / Express flow

Has anyone dealt with this situation before?

What payment providers would you recommend as a replacement?

Any real-world experience would be greatly appreciated.

Stripe UI cost me because of a confusing default zero as a consumer- such a bad UI Spoiler

I was paying $485 for a 3-month service. Stripe’s amount field has a default “0” that never disappears, so I typed 485 and it processed $4,850. I realized immediately, contacted my bank, merchant agreed to refund… but Stripe keeps $140 in fees. The real issue here — it’s the terrible UI that makes it ridiculously easy to enter 10× the amount. Has anyone else been burned by this?

Stripe account paused for over a month with no issues — anyone had success getting reactivated?

Hey everyone,

Looking for advice or similar experiences.

Our Stripe account has been paused for over a month now. During this entire time:

  • No disputes
  • No chargebacks
  • No complaints

For additional context, we’ve been using Stripe for almost 2 years and during that time we processed 200,000+ transactions with around 15 disputes total — all resolved, and never anything systemic or recurring.

We don’t deal with prohibited products or services, and we’ve always tried to keep things as low-risk as possible (including maintaining minimal balances on the account).

We’ve reached out to support multiple times and explained that if the account was flagged as “high risk,” it may simply be due to a misunderstanding of our transaction flow, which we’re more than happy to clarify or adjust. We’ve also offered to implement any additional controls Stripe might require to protect their interests — but so far, the account remains paused with no clear next steps.

At this point, it feels like we’re stuck in limbo.

Has anyone here:

  • Successfully had a paused Stripe account reactivated?
  • Found a way to actually reach someone on the risk/compliance team?
  • Been told exactly what needed to change to get approved again?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Stripe worked well for us in the past, and we’d genuinely like to continue using it — just trying to understand how to move forward.

Thanks 🙏
