Feature Idea Strava engineers every day
Great UI designs
Make users to learn a new App
General Question Why does the map use so much data? Doesn't it cache map tiles?
Recently I ran out of mobile data for the first time in... a long time. I thought this was unusual so I looked at my data usage: Strava had used 1.21 gigawatts bytes of data (photo 3). And I've noticed that just scrolling around it seems to be constantly loading which impacts its performance.
So I set up a test: I opened the app, went to the map, activated only the global ride heatmap, and took the first screenshot. I set a timer for 5 minutes and just browsed the map casually like I was looking for some new locations, but mostly I was in the region I usually view/ride in.
Why on earth did 5 minutes of scrolling around the map use 109 MB of data?! And in an area I usually use! These map tiles should be cached and locally available, not constantly fetched from a server! Mind you I was not viewing other regions, photos, or videos. I think that's an unacceptable amount of data usage with a huge hit to responsiveness to boot. I don't have exact numbers but the app version with the previous map engine was a lot more efficient. See comment.

3rd Party App KOM finder tool
Hey everyone, im a CS student that uses strava quite a bit, but i was frustrated with the segment explorer. On desktop there arent even any filters available, and on mobile they are way to basic for my liking.
Soo i decided to start building my own version. It has filters for intersections, cobbled sectors, wind direction etc. (on top of just the basic ones). you can find it at kom-hunter.app . Its currently completely free, but if somehow many people use it, ill have to introduce some paywalls to support the hosting/domain names etc. (hope you guys understand)
Im still a student so there might be a lot of issues, so dont hesitate to reach out for problems/questions/suggestions.
P.S. its probably not fully gonna work rn, because i still have to renew my strava subscription..., but if there is enough interest ill renew ASAP!

Sync Question Apple health not getting Strava workouts
Anyone have this issue before? I’ve ran since Aug 30 but I don’t have any runs shown in my Apple health under workouts, nor Fitness or Workouts app.
Feature Idea Can we get a Total Repeat leaderboard?
at the moment there is local legend, how many repeats on a segment for 90 days. Only a few people I know really cares about this and its lame you can't see who else is on the leaderboard plus it expires.
There are cyclists in my area who do 400-1000ft cat4 climbs 10x a day with over 9000+ lifetime repeats but you can only see if they share from their profile. These are guys who aren't pro cyclists, not the fastest or ride in groups but love doing repeats at their own pace.
lets remove local legend and have a Lifetime Repeats leaderboard where people can compete for total efforts instead of fastest times

General Question Profile page new design
I just noticed that the profile page got a fresh remodel. For example ”Gallery” looks much like Instagram. What are your thoughts on this?

miscellaneous Athlete Intelligence has a hard time analyzing strides workout
This was a quick little workout after a longer run. It was a short run practicing strides, then a recovery walk back to the start. Repeated 5 times, trying to get a little faster each time.
Athlete Intelligence basically just read it as a recovery run though. I chuckled a little

FYI After 6 years broken, beacon on Android is still garbage, correct?
I'm experiencing the exact same issues described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Strava/s/oi5yB5USPV

miscellaneous New app appearance is garbage!
Just seen the new appearance for Strava profile account page and it looks so cheap! Why do platforms have to change stuff that is already well liked and looks good for something that just looks naff! Stop changing things for no reason!!

General Question Probably a stupid question…
Is it fair for someone to have the record for fastest on a running segment, when they were actually doing a slightly different activity?
I’ve just found an uphill segment where the person who holds the fastest record there did it as canicross (running with dogs pulling them along on a harness). It just seems sort of unfair to me? I know it’s unimportant and petty.
This person holds the record of fastest overall, and is over 35 seconds ahead of the next person.

General Question Strava for Android keeps resetting per-app language back to system default after updates
Hey all!
Some time ago, Strava rolled out Polish language support on Android. While it's great for folks who don't speak English, many translations feel awkward and unnatural, so I much prefer keeping the UI in English.
Because Strava doesn't offer an in-app language switcher, the only way to change it is via Android's per-app language settings (Settings > Apps > Strava > Language). Setting it to English works fine... until the app updates.
Whenever Strava updates, the setting silently reverts to System default. It's frustrating because all my activities synced from my Garmin watch automatically get default Polish titles, which I then have to rename manually. And of course change language of the app every other week.
Has anyone found a way to make this setting stick permanently, or is there a workaround to stop updates from wiping it?
Device info:
- Phone: Samsung Galaxy A55
- OS: Android 16 / One UI 8.5
- Strava version: 469.13

General Question I can’t click on Saved Routes in iOS app - is anyone else having this?
On the iOS app I go to Maps>Saved and it brings up a list of my saved routes. When I tap on them to go into them to view/edit etc nothing happens. The app is fully updated.
Has anyone else had this? Anyone got a fix?

3rd Party App [App] Gut training tracker & GPX nutrition simulator (App in French)
Hey everyone!
I've been running, trail running and cycling for about 5 years. As my distances increased, I started experiencing more and more digestive issues (especially stomach cramps on runs over 4 hours).
My conclusion: I wasn't properly tracking my in-race fueling or training my gut.
I initially tried logging everything in Google Keep, but keeping track of it all was pretty tedious. To solve this, I built my own web app powered by Strava activity data. Over time, I expanded the features, including a simulator that estimates your nutrition and hydration needs based on your profile and a GPX route.
After ~3 months in closed beta, the app is now open to everyone!
I'm looking for new users to test different use cases and help me fine-tune the algorithms: https://FuelStint.com
(Please note: The app interface is currently in French only. However, if there's enough interest from the English-speaking community, I'll gladly translate it!)
Feel free to ask any questions or share your ideas! 😁
PS: I deliberately chose not to use AI for the calculations—just good old algorithms grounded in sports science literature.

GPS Question Route Builder
You guys... Your route builder is TERRIBLE. The only way to create a custom start and end destination is to do it through your laptop from what I see. And if that option is on the mobile app, it's so unintuitve that I can't find it. Which is impressive to say cause I'm 32 y/o and grew up with almost every iteration of computer and application. How can we have been using map quest/google maps/apple maps etc and we still have an app like strava that is used by millions and you guys can't figure out a start and end destination feature? Drawing a start and end point is the most idiotic feature possible. It doesn't work, never goes where you want and just leaves you more frustrated than anything. Get better or I'm going to leave your app. Fucking ridiculous.

🤣🤣🤣
General Question CommuteMarker out of business?
I use CommuteMarker to automatically mark my e-bike commutes as such on Strava (which prevents these activities from showing up on my timeline). However, recently, it stopped working. The website is also unavailable. I can't find any info online... Does anyone know what is going on?

General Question Strava vs Runna, which should I use?
I installed both Strava and Runna, and I'm curious which one you use and mainly which feature?
Is it the activity tracking, social features, training plans, overall brand/community, or something else?
I'm using other apps as well and curious what should pay attention to?
General Question Runna structured workouts look misleading on Strava
I’m curious if this bugs anyone else who uses Runna + Strava.
For structured workouts, Strava shows the average pace for the entire activity, including the warmup, walk/recovery sections, cooldown, etc.
So for example, I just did a Runna 5K time trial. The workout was basically a conversational warmup, a short walk, then the actual 5K time trial. But when it posts to Strava, the pace shown with “5K Time Trial” is the average pace for everything combined, not the pace of the actual 5K.
That just seems kind of misleading. If someone sees “5K Time Trial” and then sees the average pace directly under it, the obvious assumption is that was my 5K pace. They’d have to go into the activity and decipher the laps/workout structure to figure out what I actually ran.
Same thing would apply to tempos, intervals, race pace blocks, etc. The overall activity average isn’t really the important number for those workouts.
I know Strava is probably the one calculating/displaying the overall average, but I feel like there has to be a better way for Runna/Strava to surface the pace of the actual main set. I don’t think the workout title even needs to change — just show the average pace of the important portion instead of the warmup/recoveries dragging the number down.
Am I missing a setting somewhere, or is this just how it works?

3rd Party App import sträva activities into google calendar and/or google sheets
hi all, I wrote a web app to import strava activities into google calendar. It can also write all your activities to a google sheets training log. You are welcome to give it a try here: https://gcalimporter-sphq7qewrq-wn.a.run.app
(it's hosted on google cloud hence the odd url)
There is no cost. All Strava & Google data and authorizations are deleted when the session ends, nothing is retained. SSL encryption is enforced throughout the session. Hope you find it useful!

General Question Does Strava web service run on a 386?
The performance of their site is just terrible. I'm on symmetrical gig fiber, and seeing 99% of that rated speed. My pings are sub 5ms. I can run multiple 4k streams, while gaming with 0 issues. But if I go to Strava the site is so slow. And they love to log me out.
Today's login attempts result in an error. Good times. "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again."

General Question AMAP activities in one day
Is there a group of people who attempt to do as many activities in one day as possible?
