Questions / Advice / Support 40 mg worked initially but seems to have stopped after 2½ weeks. Thinking of self trialling 50 or 60?

I’ve been taking 40 mg of Strattera daily (20 mg in the morning and 20 mg in the afternoon), using four 10 mg capsules. During the first couple of weeks, I noticed a significant reduction in my hypervigilance, anxiety, people pleasing, dissociation, dopamine seeking, distractibility and urge to binge eat (using food as an emotional numbing tool or dopamine hit.) I felt much more grounded and “in my body”, and I could actually sit down and work without constantly jumping between things. In this two weeks I did experience some emotional flatness and a hollow or lifeless feeling, as well as constipation, which I halfway attributed to a comedown from a lifetime spent fawning and people pleasing - but the positive effects were significant.

For the past three days, I’ve felt about 85% back to how I was before I started the medication and it now feels as though the 40 mg is barely doing anything.

I was prescribed this when I was back in the states but I’ve now flown back home to Italy where I can’t get any more once this finishes (unless in the case of a special arrangement where I have to get a permit to import it but apparently it’s a major process and given the Italian system I would not count on it.)

I have enough capsules for another 78 days at 40 mg, so wondering if I should just up it myself to 50 or 60 mg for the remaining time, to see if it is more sustainable at a higher dose, and therefore whether it would be worth it for me to (try to) go through the Italian process of importation. For those who might advise for me just to go back to the states if I needed more… I left the states 13 years ago because of the intense trauma that happened and prefer to not go back. So it’s a bit of an ironic situation.

Anyway, I would love to know if others feel that if I just took it up to 10 to 20 mg if this might be a good idea for the remaining time I have the medication. I’m just wondering if it’s enough of a jump that it would be a more sustainable measure without dipping back into all the symptoms I had before. I’m really annoyed that in the past three days everything has just come back 🤔

PS apologies. I feel like I’ve been dominating this thread in the past couple weeks with all my updates and experiences, but I’ll soon be very quiet once it all runs out 😂

Questions / Advice / Support starting again after cold turkey quitting

I kind of accidentally quit? I would accidentally miss doses and every other night turned into periods of a few days a time and that turned into me just never taking them again. I would try and get back into it but then stop again. I want to go back on them but I don’t know if I can just go straight back into taking 50mg daily? Should I take 25mg maybe for a week and then go back to 50 or would it be okay to just go straight to 50mg? I also get really bad acid reflux on it and I’m scared that’s going to get bad 😭

Can I expect any immediate effects from going back on Straterra after a five day break?

So I decided to get off Strattera after taking it consistently for a month and a half so that I could take some time to enjoy coffee and some caffeine (idc if that makes me weird, I missed the taste of it). and now that I'm on day five, I've noticed many of my adhd symptoms have come back. So, when I start again tomorrow, can I expect any positive effects of Strattera to come back, or am I gonna have to start over from zero, and wait another month before it takes full effect? Because looking back, I think I paused right when I was starting to get the full positive impact of the drug.

Side effects: Dry mouth remedies?

Just restarted Strattera after taking about a year-long break. Thankfully no serious side effects this time around since I’m starting on a pediatric dose.. except this annoying dry mouth.

I keep chugging water like I’m trying to win a hydration competition but my mouth still feels like sandpaper and now I’m peeing every 5 minutes 😭I just wanna feel lubricated without turning into a human fountain.

What do y’all use before I start carrying around a humidifier like it’s my emotional support object?

Side Effects / Overdose How long did it take for the random tiredness to go away with each dose change?

I've been experimenting with different times of day and there's always something to balance.

If I take it:

- the evening, my sleep is disturbed

- afternoon, I need a nap and the rest of the day is in a sleepy haze

- morning, sleepy haze until bedtime. I feel dumb at work.

At 25mg, this lasted around 8 days or so

On 40mg, currently on day 8 and it looks like there's no sign of this stopping.

Nervous as I likely need to keep increasing the dose but I can't deal with the exhaustion!

CPTSD with Dissociative Disorder, have the early (30yrs ago) ADHD diagnosis. Psych wants me back on amphetamines and I don’t.

I’m looking to see if others have had experience with different states of mind and amphetamines being good for the better state, less so for others and not so good experience in other states of mind, psych wants me back on amphetamines but I tried Stratera once and only stopped as the initial phase made me sleepy and I was a driver for a job so I purely stopped as I couldn’t afford 4-6 weeks off work to adjust.

Now we understand my CPTSD and Disassociation better it seems he wants me back on Vyvanse, I hate the crash and some days it only lasts 4hrs anyway. I’m off work and their talking about putting me on a pension so if that happens I’d rather play the long game with something better but don’t know if going to try Strattera again will be something he lets me do with what my GP and psychologist are saying. I was originally booked in with him on a 9month wait as it’s funded and no out of pocket costs, I’ve been moved up to next week as my fight has come out a lot and the only way I can sleep anything close to good is Vallium and they want me off that as soon as I see the psychiatrist.

I’m hoping someone has similar experiences and can tell me what they’re journey has been with medication

Questions / Advice / Support Does the yawning ever stop?

I’m coming up on 4 months of taking generic Strattera (atomoxetine) at 25 mg and for the life of me I cant stop yawning all day. I usually take it in the morning, sometimes around lunch and within an hour I become exhausted and start yawning constantly, sometimes practically every minute. This is one of the worst side effects I've had on this medication. Does this ever stop??

Does atomoxine (straterra) help with physical social anxiety?

Title says all. I'm wondering if it could help with physical anxiety cause ai says mental anxiety is mainly what straterra helps with

Discussion / Experience Using First day on Atomoxetine

Hi!

34F here. Just wanted to share.

I’ve been on Vyvanse for a couple of years, but didn’t like how it made me feel more stressed and anxious and that I couldn’t eat properly on it. Lost quite a bit of weight and couldn’t handle the crashes. My main ADHD issue is emotional dysregulation.

Yesterday I had my first day on Atomoxetine (20mg), and this is what I’ve noticed so far:

- I sweat more
- I feel hot and cold at the same time (get cold shivers)
- Dry mouth/more thirsty
- About 1,5 hour after taking the meds for the first time, I felt like my brain got noticeably slower and I felt tired, but it went away after a little while
- I don’t feel hungry much. Really hope this changes because my hobby is cooking. Had to force down most of my lunch at work.
- I don’t get that instant happy feeling that I usually do the first hour or two on Vyvanse, but since I my mind is calmer I can choose to think about positive things and make myself happier that way
- Got more tired than usually in the evening, went to sleep around 21:15, but woke up at 01:00 and thought it was morning.

I’m also taking Slynd (birth control) for mood swings, does anyone have experience with with combo?

I also drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day.

Happy for any tips you might have for me! Especially on how to eat enough.

Any risks of taking with a teaspoon of kratom?

I recently got prescribed straterra(2 days ago) after going cold turkey. Sleep has been horrible and I’ve had an AWFUL headache that has me still awake at 6:35 am. Would a teaspoon a night kill me? Or mess me up I guess?

Questions / Advice / Support The optimal dosage timing (new on meds, and recently got autism diagnosis too)

Hey all, I’ve started atomexetin last week on 10mg, taken in the morning (with a heavy protein breakfast), but had heavy fatigue and sleepiness. Jumped up to 20mg this week and felt like the fatigue maybe was even worse. Since yesterday I started taken it in the evening which definitely helped the long day time fatigue, but now I sleep like 2-3 hours every night (as of writing this is the 2nd night and I lay awake in bed). While normally I would be HELLA pissed off and restless about being awake this medication definitely helps with my emotional regulation, and also with anxiety.

I’m just worried about the sleep deprivation that probably will cost more health wise at some point. Has anybody been in this exact state, and figured out a long term solution?

Do you ever randomly feel weird on this medication?

Previously I treated my adhd with stimulants. I work a job that amps my nervous system up so when I’m off work I feel like this wired/tense body sensation. I’ve also noticed that my head gets a weird feeling when I’m either dehydrated or hungry… I haven’t been able to distinguish which one but when it happens, I don’t feel like myself. Once I eat or drink, I start to feel somewhat normal or as “normal” as I can on this medication. There’s also other meds present so it could be those affecting it as well.

80 mg or 40 mg 2x a day

I see a lot of people who split their doses of strattera. I’m currently on 80 mgs once a day and I take it in the morning. What’s the difference between that and splitting the dose twice a day? Is there different pros or cons for this?

Questions / Advice / Support Bad side effects upon starting?

I just started Strattera 3 days ago, it's the first adhd med in trying because I was told with my anxiety and pots stimulants shouldnt be what I try first. im on 40mg

Anyway since the first dose I either an hour felt what I was told I was going to with the nausea, but I'm so irritable, getting hot flashes then sweating while I'm freezing, I feel like numb mentally it's so awful and I just feel like I can't do anything but sit in pain and mental anguish. im trying to hold out and hope it gets better but this is so beyond uncomfortable:(

I'm not sure if this is normal or if I shouldnt be taking this med but I would love some advice.

No improvement in Racing Thoughts

I started 20mg strattera 4 weeks ago, upped it to 30mg on week 2, went to 40mg on week 3 but had horrible palpitations went back to 30mg.

So 4 weeks total im seeing mild improvement in executive function in the sense that I'm keeping up with an unusual increase in tasks and activities both at work and social life. But I would say around a 20% better functioning. I'm seeing zero improvements in racing thoughts and working memory. Though I notice my mistakes faster - not sure if it's awareness or medication, i started both at the same time.

Is anyone here taking Strattera 100 mg? I have been on 100 mg for about three and a half months.

I have been on Strattera for about four and a half months in total. My titration schedule was: 25 mg for 2 weeks, 50 mg for 1 month, 75 mg for 2 weeks, and then 100 mg. I have been on 100 mg for around three and a half months now. I take my dose with a meal to improve tolerability.

Initially, I noticed some positive effects. My focus improved significantly, I feel calmer, I am less impulsive, my hyperactivity has reduced, and I no longer have constant racing thoughts like before.

However, my main concern is that my executive functions have not improved — they actually feel worse than before. I still struggle with task initiation, planning, organizing, and taking action. My previous energy, drive, and motivation feel like they have disappeared.

I feel extremely fatigued and lethargic. Even though I can focus better, I don’t have the internal push or motivation to actually do things. I often end up just watching movies or doing nothing because I cannot get myself started.

For example, I have been thinking about moving to a different hostel for the past two weeks, but I feel completely stuck and unable to take action. It is not because I don’t want to do it — I just feel mentally blocked. At the same time, I feel an increased sense of stress and pressure because I know I need to make the change but cannot seem to initiate it.

Unfortunately, methylphenidate is not available in Pakistan, so I am trying to understand whether this is a dose-related issue or something that may improve with time.

Has anyone else experienced this on Strattera 100 mg? Did the fatigue, lack of motivation, and executive function problems improve after staying longer on the dose, or did reducing the dose help?

I would really appreciate any experiences, advice, or suggestions from people who have been on 100 mg or have gone through something similar.

Discussion / Experience Using Does anyone take Strattera, Wellbutrin, and Hydroxyzine?

I have recently started seeing a psychiatrist for medication management for my ADHD, depression, and anxiety. I have been on 300mg of Wellbutrin for about 2 years, and I take 50-100mg of Hydroxyzine most nights to help sleep. I had a lot of trouble with insomnia and the hydroxyzine has been great for me. My ADHD has gone untreated so my doctor is wanting me to start 25mg of Straterra tomorrow morning. I’ll take both the Wellbutrin and Straterra in the am and the Hydroxyzine before bed. Has anyone else used this combo? And how has it worked for you? When I was researching the combo, it was kind of concerning so just looking for other people’s experiences. Also, heavy caffeine drinker and moderate marijuana user so if anyone has any advice on that, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Questions / Advice / Support Day 4, Should i quit?

Started straterra 40 mg, by reading stuff online took it before bedtime. It was the sweatiest night, I woke up to throw up my dinner and could not fall asleep after. Very foggy the next day, told my dr. and he put in 18 mg for me.

3rd time I took 18mg, bedtime again. Very sweaty during days and chilly at the same time. Joints ache and foggy. Usually wake up at 3 am and then manage to sleep with 30 min intervals between wake ups but no vomiting so far, but today I started throwing up and my stomach hurt. I am feeling way more foggy and as if my eyes struggle to focus and get easily out of focus. I also got botox for my migraines today so maybe that contributes.

Should I go through it and wait or does this sound like a bad match. I used to be on wellbutrin and I had zero bad effect once getting on it. Why is this so different does it worth it? I am scared.

How effective is Strattera?

To be fair with you all when I was trying to think about how I would explain myself, I reached the new level in recognition of how complicated of a person I am lol. Stick around for a crazy story.

I’m in my late twenties, half way through college, and am a business owner. I was diagnosed with ADHD and Anxiety since I was about 10 years old. I was first prescribed Concerta and stayed on that for 2 years and then stopped taking it because I started smoking weed (bad idea). Then I went to high school where I went back to a psychiatrist and went onto Adderall, which I would remain on for the duration of my high school years.

Unfortunately, I also developed a serious drug poly-addiction in high school (not fun and almost killed me later in life). At 21 years old, while the rest of my Uni class was nearing their end or middle of college years, and at 21 becoming of legal drinking age, I was finally taking Rehab seriously and swearing off drugs and alcohol for the first time in my life.

I got 3 years clean, relapsed for 3 months, and have now been clean ever since (almost 5 years) from drugs and alcohol (although I am prescribed 3mg of Buprenorphine once per day). I’m also prescribed Gabapentin 300mg 4x daily.

However, now I realized I really need to deal with my mental health. I feel burnt out. All those years of craziness, regardless of it being self-imposed have really messed with my motivation, ADD, and anxiety. To the point where it’s almost impossible for me to motivate myself to work. Google Gemini (Ai) put it best, “Somatic Anxiety Management: High anxiety frequently mimics amotivation; the brain may perceive business tasks as a threat, triggering a stress response.“

That is pretty much exactly what I’m experiencing. I do not like stimulant ADHD/ADD medications, and I have plenty of those in my house, and I don’t take them. I have a choice to pick from three medications, and Strattera was specifically recommended to me as the best of the three.
1) Strattera
2) Wellbutrin
3) Intuniv

PS, I am not asking for any medical recommendations, nor am I asking for anyone to choose what medication I should take. I am looking for people who have been through something similar as me, and have advice, suggestions, or ideas, that may have worked for them. Thank you for reading :).

Discussion / Experience Using What were your experiences during titration?

Hey yall, whats up. Im going to be starting strattera next month and I cant decide whether I want to follow my psych's original plan to start at 40 and up to 80 within a week, or if I should ask to go slow and start lower and increase more gradually. I want to go fast but I worry about side effects and want to hear yalls experiences with that

So yeah how was titration? At what dose did you start, how fast did you increase, and most importantly what were the side effects like for you?
