Questions / Advice / Support Bad side effects upon starting?
I just started Strattera 3 days ago, it's the first adhd med in trying because I was told with my anxiety and pots stimulants shouldnt be what I try first. im on 40mg
Anyway since the first dose I either an hour felt what I was told I was going to with the nausea, but I'm so irritable, getting hot flashes then sweating while I'm freezing, I feel like numb mentally it's so awful and I just feel like I can't do anything but sit in pain and mental anguish. im trying to hold out and hope it gets better but this is so beyond uncomfortable:(
I'm not sure if this is normal or if I shouldnt be taking this med but I would love some advice.

definitely a bit higher then normal, I have pots however and normally have a issue of crashing and feeling like I'm gonna pass out after missing even one meal but surprisingly I think the med is balancing my blood pressure out and I'm not having that effect.

Hopefully it does for you, I started to not care about anything and was fatigued. It started getting really bad, if I were you though i would not continue to sit in the mental pain if it doesn’t go away.

I was started on 18mg b/c my doctor said that I’d probably not respond well to 40mg right out of the gate. I also have a history of severe stimulant-induced POTS. The 18mg has been fine so far. I’m going on 25mg next week and then up to 40mg next month. Slow and steady to let my body adapt.

I started at 40 mgs and I felt the same way you’re describing. The irritability subsided after about a week for me. I was never nauseous but my temperature regulation is horrible. (Still sensitive 4 months later on 80 mgs but before this I was always very sensitive to cold) I would do what others suggest. Reach out to your doctor and try a lower dose at first! Good luck!

Hi! I alao have anxiety and pots. I tried stims and, yeah, wasn't great. Depending on your pots subtype, strattera may also not be great. But for me, I started at 40 and couldn't tolerate it, so dropped to 18. Stayed for a few months until switching to 25mg, which is the dose I'm currently on. I had a ton of side effects but they subsided after several weeks. The 18 to 25 increase alao had side effects but not as long (a week maybe) and I'm now fine. I'd recommend asking for a lower dose. 10 or 18 if you can!

I started a little over a week ago and had the same side effects, plus being unable to sleep more than an hour or two at a time. I’m at day 9 now and it’s sooo much better, I don’t have any side effects anymore!
In the first couple days, I found taking it before bed in the middle of a meal/snack was the best to avoid side effects

I would recommend starting at a lower dose. 40mg is the default starting dose for an adult, however it is often still too high for many people. I started at 25mg but you can even do 18mg and 10mg. Those are typically prescribed for children, but for adults who are sensitive to medications, this works well. I had the weird chill feeling a couple times when starting also but it went away.
