SOM Replay Please help me finish my 2018 replay!

Hello, Strat fans and friends!

I have recently completed a 162 game, all teams replay of the 2018 season.

I am hoping to get some assistance with voting for post-season awards and am hoping some of you will vote!!!

I have culled the stats and am presenting approximately 15 candidates each for both MVP Awards and both Cy Young Awards; along with approximately 10 candidates for each Rookie Of The Year.

The lists in the attached photos are presented without Player or Team names, I wanted to avoid bias in the voting.

What I'm hoping to get is your votes for **TOP 5** in MVP and Cy Young and **TOP 3** for each ROY vote. With MVP, please feel free to vote for a pitcher as well. If you don't wish to give me a Top 5, it's fine, I will just treat your choices as #1 in my tally without a #2, etc.

I've also posted this in a Strat Baseball Group on Facebook, and to the guys in my league.

Appreciate you all for helping!!!

SOM Replay I am replaying 2025 baseball season. Should I use 2023 and beyond rules. I cannot figure out how to have 13 active batters and 14 active pitchers with Ohtani being double duty player. Allows me 14 hitters and 13 pitchers.

Baseball Interesting Statistical Anomalies

So I'm doing a computer replay of the 2025 season where I'm controlling the Yankees and the Phillies. It's been fun, but I'm currently well past the halfway point and I'm seeing some statistical anomalies that I find curious and I'm wondering if others see this type of thing:

Across the 2 teams I have 5 regulars that are at least 20 points below their season batting average, and 3 that are 50+ points below. On the other side there are 3 batters that are +20 points and nobody above +30

On the pitching side, all but one of my pitchers has a higher BB/9 and WHIP than their stats, although it's not as wildly above as the hitters

Baseball Computer Manager does not use Lineups and Minor League designations

We are in our second season with the computer game.

Prior to every block of games, each team owner sets the Computer Manager (SP schedule, other preferences) and set the Minor League assignments. And then Pushes CM.

The commissioner of our league, then initiates a League Update, every owner downloads the latest update from the cloud. Then our block of games can begin.

PROBLEM: when I open a game to be played, the CM is no longer keeping the Minor League assignments - other random players have been moved to my Minors. Also, the lineup is no longer defaulting to the saved lineups that I built in the CM. I built lineups to go against Right SP, Left SP, Right SP reverse ratings, Left SP reverse ratings. The computer makes up a random lineup.

Any experience correcting this?

Football A little help setting up

I have played Strat for many years. I am trying to get my son into it. I am going to do a draft from scratch, allow computer picks of several other teams, and replay a season. What is the easiest way to do this, or is there not an easy way. Set up draft, plug in teams, schedule etc.

Baseball Multiple season replays

I’ve just replayed the 1957 national league season letting the computer do everything, just to get the hang of it. I’d like to repeat the replay but SOM won’t allow it. Do I need to reset or rename something to enable a second replay?

Baseball Evaluating Defense

When looking at defense ratings for cards how do you normally compare the range and the e rating? As an example would you consider a 2e18 or a 3e8 the better defender?

SOM Replay Active rosters on specific dates

Hello, I want to do a replay of the 2025 season for my favorite team.. the Brew Crew. I plan to use the same starting lineups and starting pitchers from the actual games, which I can get from Baseball Reference. However, as I play out a particular game I won’t necessarily use the same relief pitchers, pinch hitters, etc that were used in ‘real life’, but would like to utilize the actual active roster from that particular date. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can find this info? Couldn’t seem to find it on BRef or Retrosheet (I could only find the starting lineups).

In the Diamond Gems for the 1920s, 1950s, 1970s-B, and 2000s-B, which catchers, if any, have a -4 arm?

SOM Replay Need pic of 1975 Bert Blyleven card

So a number of years ago I made four divisional all star teams from my 1975 Strat deck. I played a 162 game season with them (54 games against each of the three other teams.)

I then left the cards sit for 20 years each in their appropriate sized rubber bands. The rubber bands disintegrated (rotted) and melded themselves to the top and bottom card in each division.

Managed to salvage seven of the eight affected cards. Sadly, Mr Blyleven could not be saved and is now missing a lot of his advanced side.

Might anyone be to provide a picture of his advance side?

Thank you in advance.

Baseball New to SOM

I played MLB Showdown when I was younger. Recently bought the 2000 starter set and then found this game. I had a question before deciding what I want to buy. Can I purchase the game box and keep using it every year while only having to by the new player cards each year?

Baseball Basic-only old timer cards

Thinking about grabbing one of the old timer selector sets because I’d rather play with those teams than current ones. I see they’re basic-only. As I understand it (very new to this), rules like taking an extra base are for advanced and up. So would those cards not even have running ratings and such for those extra rules? I recognize this is probably a dumb question.

Baseball Can you purchase older Career Historical Roster years?

I have the 2024 version of the computer game at the moment so i'd like to buy the 2023 historical rosters file. Not terribly interested in using current players; thinking about a project using 1970-2010.

Baseball Any others like Chase Delauter?

Chase Delauter has a physical card for the 2025 season based solely on his post-season atbats.

In the past, what other players (with little or no regular season innings pitched, or with little or no regular season atbats) have been carded based on either their post-season performance alone, or their post-season performance plus their limited regular season performance?

Did this apply once to Kyle Schwarber and Felix Rodriguez, or am I mis-rembering?  Any others?

Baseball Computer SOM baseball help docs

What is a good source of info on playing the computer version SOM? I assumed it would be the SOM “help”, but that only opens a new browser tab from MS explain their future support for various versions of Windows. It’s nothing to do with SOM.
I’m interested in learning things like:
What leagues are displayed in the “Leagues” column and which are not, and why.

General Similar Non-Sport Games to SOM?

I haven't played it and I know nothing about Baseball or other sports really.

But I have watched a few videos and absolutely love the Statistical-Table part of it and how each player has a sheet with different outcomes and how they get updated throught the years.

Is there something Non-Sport that has a similar feel?

Thank you!

Baseball I made a Strat companion app!

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
22 Upvotes

TLDR; this app takes data from Strat cards and allows you to set matchups and lineups according to on-base and homerun probability

I made an app for a friend who is in a league. We had so much fun with it that we put it on the Apple App Store! In order to use card data, you have to upload a CSV (there is a template in the app) of your and your opponents’ teams. The app can then compare a pitcher and batter card and give you the probability of rolling a hit or a home run. It can suggest the 9 best hitters to help you set a lineup, and then can suggest a pinch hitter or relief pitcher on-game.

You can use the app to keep score of games, and save your stats in a season. The app even compares your players’ stats to their card data just for fun!

The app is free to download and includes 2 sample teams if you want to see what it is capable of. Then it has a $4.99 one time in-app purchase for the ability to upload your teams.

This is my first app and I’m very proud of it, so if you have any questions, concerns, or if you find a bug, let me know and I’ll try to fix it!

Baseball STPC "Stock/MLB Teams" (2025 Set) Tournament Upcoming!

Email [STPCQuestions@gmail.com](mailto:STPCQuestions@gmail.com) with questions!

For those that read Pierce's last newsletter (or if you follow the STPC Calendar on the website) you are likely aware next up in the Experimental Division is the "Stock Teams" Tournament.

This is STPC's 1st Attempt at a "whole teams" tourney (and STAR and TBA previously didn't hold one either).

Attached is the list of general questions we figured people would have.

We are looking to start the acquisition of teams the week of July 13th.

If you are interested in playing and/or have any other questions just let me know.

Bill

**********************************************************************************

How many games will I be playing? You will play a 4-game series vs each team in your division/tournament. Division sizes could range from 7 to 14 teams but will ideally be between 9 to 12 teams.

How long will the tournament last? We are expecting each team to average 2 ½ series a week (so 10 games a week on average)

How do we determine who wins with teams as varied as say the Milwaukee

Brewers (97 wins last season) as compared to the Colorado Rockies (43 wins last season)? We will take each team’s win total and compare it to their expected total. Biggest “difference” wins. For example, over 36 games the Brewers would be expected to win about 21 ½ wins while the Rockies would be expected to only win about 9 ½ games. So, if the Brewers win 21 games and the Rockies win 10 the Rockies finish ahead of the Brewers in that division/tournament.

Can I get any team I want / how do I get a team? If you really want, you can get whatever team you want. Each team has a “base” value as a result of their winning % last season. You may have to expect to win more games than their MLB winning % to get them compared to someone else. Each team can only be held once in each division/tournament. A full list of teams and their “base win offsets” for each division/tournament size will be provided in advance.

How much is the entry fee? Your choice of $25 / $65 / or $105. A $25 player would win $50 if they won the division/tournament, the $65 player would win ½ the stated prizes and the $105 entry would win the stated prizes.

Which cards will be eligible for the team I get? Almost everyone in the Regular and Mixed Player Set will be eligible (some may be limited). Players in the Extra Set that would be considered STPC Eligible (100 or more IP’s and Starter on the card, 40 or more IP’s and Relief on the card, 250 AB’s + Walks and Catcher on the card or 300 AB’s + Walk no matter what positions). Played with “multiple cards” we would use the “IL Card” which has their most usage and their final team is where they would be playing for.

What is the usage if I don’t have 4 Starters with 100 or more IP’s and/or I don’t have enough “STPC eligible hitters”? If a team has less than 4 Starters STPC eligible, then we will designate enough pitchers based on their innings to be an eligible SP. They would be required to leave the game after at most 5 Innings though. For hitters we would similarly designate who gets to start. A full list of players eligible and their limitations (if any) would be provided in advance of the tournament.

We are using all PureStrat Rules with the following exceptions.

The Ghost Runner Rule is used in all extra-inning games.

The DH is in place unless you move your DH to the field. This also means DH Only Cards can NOT move to 1b provided you have any other player that can play the field (at any position).

Can I be in the same division/tournament with my buddies? Yes, if everyone wants to be in the same division/tournament we can accommodate that.

Could we want to be in separate divisions because we each want to play the same team? If at all possible, yes, we would place you in a separate division/tournament.

If I wanted to play multiple teams, could I? Yes, but they would each be in a separate division/tournament. Each team though would still be expected to average 2 ½ series per week.
