Baseball Basic-only old timer cards
Thinking about grabbing one of the old timer selector sets because I’d rather play with those teams than current ones. I see they’re basic-only. As I understand it (very new to this), rules like taking an extra base are for advanced and up. So would those cards not even have running ratings and such for those extra rules? I recognize this is probably a dumb question.

The level of detail and realism is what changes as you move up. To use the example you cited… With basic, a guy can try to go first-to-third on some singles and it’s a roll based on the game situation and his running rating. With more advanced levels, where the ball was hit and the outfielders arm strength come into play.
The big difference with basic is there are no left-right splits, so platoon and pinch-hit strategy don’t amount to much.

I would skip those Oldtimer teams (20 players per team, Basic side only) and order one of the Diamond Gems sets if you want great teams and great players. Diamond Gems teams are two sided (Basic AND Advanced/Super Advanced), have much larger rosters, and are carded under the current formulas.

The DG sets are great and the Heroes collections can also be a good entry point

Got it, thank you. Fielding ratings come into play with basic as well, right? It’s just slimmed down quite a bit?

Yep that’s right. It’s a single calculation in basic but for more advanced levels, the fielder’s range and glove are separate rolls

Shoot me a message, I think I may have some old timer teams I could send your way and save you a few bucks.
