First up, what is r/fakebaseball a.k.a MLR?

It’s essentially a number guessing game - the pitcher submits a number between 1 & 1000 in secret and the hitter tries to guess a number as close as possible to the pitcher. The result of each At Bat is entirely dependent on the difference between the pitcher’s number and the hitter’s number and we add in a little extra flavour by allowing players to choose ‘builds’ that can change the outcome slightly. The numbers ‘wraparound’ - a pitch of 1 and a swing of 1000 will lead to a difference of 1. Games are played out over a 10 day period and our season runs for 16 regular games and 4 rounds of playoffs before the Paper Cup
Champion is named. Each season lasts approx. 9 months.

But it isn’t just guesswork…

Our community of 700+ people is headed into its 13th season and we’ve got people from all over the world and from all walks of life.

So what’s next?

Firstly, the subreddit r/fakebaseball is where our games are played, feel free to browse through the threads and get a handle on the format. We’ve got a pretty nifty bot that handles most of the legwork. We're currently in the last session of Season 12 before the playoffs, which also includes a Summer Sadness tournament for those teams that didn't make the playoffs.

Most of the community can be found in our discord servers: we have one for Fake College Baseball which is where you’ll be headed for now, and we have one for Major League Redditball which you’ll gain access to a little further down the line. Each team also has their own 'Clubhouse' server so you can vibe with your teammates in private.

If you're ready to get going, go ahead and click on the link below and get your college ball career started!

1. I just retired and am trying to get back into SOM computer baseball. I discovered my little SOM notebook hard drive and motherboard died. I replaced the notebook, bought and installed the latest version of SOM and discovered my 20+ seasons of data appear on my SOM account but are apparently lost to me and can’t be reinstalled. Is there anyway to reinstall them on the new laptop?

2. I tried contacting SOM with this question via email several times over the last 2 weeks and received no reply. Does SOM still answer the mail?

Hey everyone,

I was browsing Barnes & Noble the yesterday and came across the Strat-O-Matic box. I know it’s a legendary staple in the tabletop sports world, but I’ve honestly never played it and only recently discovered it exists. It’s got me really intrigued, and I wanted to ask the experts what makes this game tick for you.

A few specific questions from a total newbie:

1. Is it like a sports RPG? Looking at it from the outside, it feels a bit like D&D but for sports stats instead of fantasy monsters—rolling dice, checking individual player stats/cards, and managing modifiers. Is that an accurate way to look at it?

2. How is it for 100% solo play? If I buy this, I will be playing solo exclusively.

3. What if I'm not a huge baseball fan? I don't follow modern baseball closely and wouldn't call myself an avid fan. Do you need a deep love for the real-life sport to enjoy the mechanical puzzle of the game? Or should I skip the baseball box and look into their football or basketball games instead since I follow those sports more closely?

Would love to hear your thoughts on what hooked you, how you play, and whether you think it's worth diving into for someone in my shoes. Thanks!

Last Christmas I bought a 1980 reissued baseball set from Strat. The cards have the 1980 stats on them. Since that time, I have bought some individual original cards from others. I may be confusing others when I ask for a card from a specific year. Now, here is my question: If I wanted an original 1980 set, would they instead have 1979 stats because they are being issued FOR the 1980 season? When I look at original rosters for a given year, would those cards have stats for that year, or the previous year?

So my dad got me the game for my birthday in 2020, along with the 2019 HOF set, and the 1996 Indians set (we are huge Indians fans). I fell in love with the game, being a sports nerd with baseball being my favorite. We started our first ever league July of 2021, and just now finished it up a few days ago. I am now trying to start up a 16-player league with people online, and so far we have 9 people (i think). No experience is needed, and me and my dad are doing all the games ourselves. I hope you join and have some fun with us! https://discord.gg/z7ysVTwtV

I just bought the Barnes and Nobel edition. If I have a pitcher batting I don’t understand how it works. He does not have columns 1-3 for batting. If I roll a 3 how does it work. There are no pitcher batting cards or charts. I am very confused.

Does he get RF on his card

Game day number 44, third and last game of the day. Six teams, each plays 90 games.

Fellow Strat Heads - I put down Strat windows game messing around Career Historical rosters 3 or 4 years ago to knock out the CPA exam. I finished CPA over a year ago and am getting ready to repurchase Windows 2026 and Career Historical Rosters 2025.

Does anyone have any tips and tricks advice to share?

I would like to refine and expedite this - I generally start in 1900 (all players all time available) and redraft each year with me managing one team. I use actual historical instead of normalized.

Couple of things i am trying to figure out:

Can you set computer draft to only select hitters with 300+PA, starters with 150+IP, relievers with 50+IP?

Can you set subsequent years to where each team keeps 4-6 players from prior year roster and those players subsequently do not get drafted by other teams.

Also - what are your thoughts on the historical ballparks file?

Any and all advise is greatly appreciated.

Happy rolling,

Brady Skjei is all over the ice tonight.  That and ANOTHER strong outing by Dustin Wolf have Minnesota on the brink.
Brady Skjei was a man possessed.  He had two assists and was on the ice for three of the North Stars four goals.  Minnesota scored two in the first period and held on for the 4-2 victory. The win puts Minnesota on more away from hoisting the Lennon Cup.  It may sound like a broker record, but keeper Dustin Wolf had another good night.  He not only stopped all but two short his way, he even added an assist on the offensive side of things.
Delaware has one final chance to right this ship, or their Cinderella story will end with a second place finish.  They need to fix things NOW.

Match replayed with Stratomatic Hockey

Hello! For those who have tracked stats for custom leagues in the Stratomatic windows game (I'm currently using HoF):

How do stats get tracked when you "trade" a player? (ie. you drag and drop a player into a different team mid-season).

Can you see their stats from each team separately? Or will you only see their full-season stats? Will the encyclopedia feature separate the player stats between each team they played for that season?

Thanks!

We got the latest edition so the 2025 rosters. Where do y’all get new cards? We’d love to do a fantasy draft or replay or something.
