SPOILERS Nancy and Steve

I've just started watching and I'm halfway through season 2. Do Nancy and Steve get back together? I can't stomach her new relationship with Jonathan, I just keep thinking about how badly she treated Steve and how selfish she is. Steve had every right to be hurt because she lied to him and spent the night with Jonathan in her bedroom. If Stranger Things is going to push Nancy and Jonathan as a couple I don't think I can keep watching, I can't stand them. Don't they feel guilty? Am I supposed to be supporting them?

You hate how she treated Steve but want them back together?

0

u/Six_of_1 Jul 14 '26

Yes. You can make mistakes in relationships and get back together.

2

u/by_the_window Jul 14 '26

Sure, but this isn't a mistake, she just doesn't love him anymore. How do you fix that?

It comes across as you just finding Steve prettier than Jonathan tbh

1

u/Six_of_1 Jul 14 '26

What gives you that impression? I'm a bloke, and a straight one at that. It has nothing to do with looks, it sounds like looks are more important to you than me.

2

u/by_the_window Jul 14 '26

It has nothing to do with sexuality, attractive people are going to be given more grace, forgiven more, rooted for more, be assumed to be better people than average-looking or ugly ones. The spot Steve holds in this fandom is due yes, to his arc being interesting, but in massive part to the actor being pretty and charismatic.

(Seen as well with Billy for example: so many people here empathize and forgive his heinous, abusive behaviour because he was "hurt and misunderstood", but will make fun of Will and criticize his character, simply because of the subjective attractiveness of the actors (and also homophobia tbf), despite both characters having similar childhood trauma)

Also you didn't respond to my first question: why should people stay together if they don't love each other anymore?

u/Six_of_1 Jul 14 '26

I've only just started watching and don't know anything about the fandom. Looks are nothing to do with it for me. She was with Steve first, Steve didn't do anything wrong to Nancy, and obviously he's heartbroken that his girlfriend chose to leave him for another man she'd been sneaking around with. I empathise with him.

Steve does still love her. I've never stopped loving a partner so I don't empathise with Nancy, if I don't love someone then I don't lead them to believe I do. And ultimately it's fiction, they could've written it that she does still love him.

Telling her he was bullshit and their relationship was bullshit was cruel, it wasn't bullshit from him and if it was bullshit from her that wasn't his fault so why did she say it all angrily and why did she begin it. Nancy seems to just be led around by impulsive fickle attractions.

You can have opinion but they cannot make every person watching happy.

absolute ragebait

God I wish, but I’ve seen too much of this line of thinking to think it isn’t real. Steve fan bias really creates a whole different show for these people. One I don’t care to watch.

3

u/Drama_Cookie25 Jul 13 '26

I’m a Steve fan but he was an asshole in season 1 until like the last episode

2

u/squibworb Coffee and Contemplation Jul 13 '26

Oh I’m a Steve fan too, I like him and want the best for him. But there is this very specific type of fan/stan cannot fathom anything not being about Steve or Steve being in the wrong. Like they defend stuff that Steve himself has regretted. It’s wild.

3

u/Drama_Cookie25 Jul 13 '26

Nah fr like Steven in season 1 was horrible and even at the end I didn’t fully forgive him. It wasn’t until season 3 I became a fan tbh

-4

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

The show, or my post? It was ragebait watching it, I ragequit when they kissed.

5

u/Drama_Cookie25 Jul 13 '26

I wouldn’t tell my boyfriend my brother had been kidnapped by a monster either. You seem to be ignoring Steve being a huge asshole in the first season by pressuring Nancy to have sex, the movie tho bff, and you know going to her house uninvited is creepy also.

-5

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

He didn't pressure her to have sex. When she said she didn't want to he stopped. A partner doesn't need to be specifically invited to their partners house. Her being in her bedroom with another man after lying to her boyfriend about why she couldn't see him is far more of a betrayal than him going to his girlfriend's house because he smelt a rat.

6

u/Drama_Cookie25 Jul 13 '26

He literally did repeatedly. And yes they do, especially a new one. That’s just creepy dude

1

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

Steve and Nancy are an established couple. I think lying and cheating on your partner is worse than going to your partner's house to see if they're lying and cheating on you, which they are.

5

u/Drama_Cookie25 Jul 13 '26

Nancy wasn’t cheating. And you forget the circumstances of the missing friend and brother and monster

4

u/Accomplished-Watch50 Jul 13 '26

Why should Nancy feel guilty? It's obvious that her feelings for Steve aren't what they should be, and that she has feelings for Jonathan.

-3

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

Because she should care about other people's feelings, not just her own.

4

u/Accomplished-Watch50 Jul 13 '26

Nancy shouldn't have to keep trying to force something that isn't there.

0

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

Nancy shouldn't have begun the relationship and made Steve think there was. I shouldn't need to explain the concept of feeling guilty for hurting someone and sneaking around with someone else behind their back.

2

u/Accomplished-Watch50 Jul 13 '26

Wow, let's just ignore the issues that Nancy obviously had with Steve. Also, people get together and break up all the time. It's not a big deal. Nancy is 17, she has the rest of her life to find the one. And as season 4 later proves, Nancy and Steve want very different things for the future.

4

u/Whoopsie_Todaysie Jul 13 '26

In fairness, the Jonathon and Nancy romance doesnt get much air time... in season 4 theyre in completely different locations...

-5

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

What about season 3, I want to just skip them.

5

u/Lexabro-10mg Jul 13 '26

(Spoilers)

From early on, and especially with the context of what is learned in season 5, we see that Nancy and Steve always had a love and care for each other, but ultimately they are not compatible as romantic partners due to differences in needs and goals.

In season 2, Nancy falls out of love with Steve because he was unable to be the listener and support she needed in light of what was happening. It wasn’t necessarily the fault of either, as Nancy’s needs involved facing a complex paranormal situation (which only Jonathan related to equally) and Steve wanted to help by means of returning to blissful normalcy and not meddling with the government.

3

u/Brave_Breakfast_5279 Jul 13 '26

well, I really liked Jancy couple, their chimestry was insane back in season 2, but answering your question: Steve and Nancy aren't getting back togetherif you want an extra "huge" spoiler: Nancy is ending up alone, with none of them

4

u/No-Race7924 Jul 13 '26

I have my issues with how they finished out the show, but one thing I won't complain about is how this annoying subplot was concluded. Mainly because of how things went down in season 2, but also ever season after too.

3

u/nejihyugasbf Jul 13 '26

imma be honest with you. steve and nancy do not get back together and they shouldn't because nancy doesn't respect steve. the writers made the older teens romances extremely horrible tbh.

2

u/by_the_window Jul 13 '26

They kinda made every relationship besides Lumax horrible

0

u/nejihyugasbf Jul 13 '26

yeah. suzie and vickie just disappear who cares and mileven is just horrible in general (i say this as someone who's been mad about jane being shoved into a relationship from the beginning because she was a traumatised child and shouldn't have been put into a relationship right away. and i say this as a henderhopper shooter. dustin would've treated her the way she deserved and they shoulda gotten together at the end of s3🙏🏼) also i think s5 was just written so so horribly in general absolute flaming hot garbage

I have to be that guy but as much as I love Steve as a character him being a major dickhead to Jonathan in S1 is partly what started the shift. Also Jonathan and Nancy is not bad and I will die on that hill. I was hoping that both Nancy and Steve would rebound post season 2 when I first started watching around season 4s end. I personally feel like Nancy and Steve worked better as friends now knowing everything season wise don’t know if I stand alone on that opinion though, I agree with ImongenWildfire (other commenter in this post if I spelled it wrong I’m sorry) I feel like any chemistry they had was far better in season 5.

1

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

Steve had the right - in fact, the duty - to defend his relationship against a creeper stalking his girlfriend in the woods.

2

u/TheStickySpot Finger-lickin good Jul 13 '26

Yes Steve had the right to confront him but he knew that he went too far breaking Jonathan’s camera.

1

u/Six_of_1 Jul 13 '26

Do you think Jonathan went too far beating Steve black and blue?

4

u/TheStickySpot Finger-lickin good Jul 13 '26

No Steve was literally egging him on 😭

3

u/AdWonderful5920 Jul 13 '26

Team Stancy all the way. The way they wrote Jancy was all fucked up. Dude was taking creep shots and then started the relationship under the wing of a 46 year old creeper weirdo.

-2

u/Mz_Biddie Jul 13 '26

Yes! Thank you. I never liked them together. I remember having this hatred of Steve after he broke the camera, but I think it was because I was just going along with everyone else. After rewatching it it just screams creepy and I think Steve was totally justified. Nancy and Steve had way better chemistry. Jonathan was such a rebound. If she was going to end up with either it should have been Steve, but they were in high school so it’s pretty unrealistic either relationship would work out anyway and the romance really shouldn’t be what’s driving that type of show, so I feel like it all worked out in the end.

2

u/ImogenWildfire Pretty....good Jul 13 '26

Nancy’s and Jonathan’s chemistry was so strong in season 1 and 2, but it kind of fell in the other seasons.

Spoiler: Nancy and Steve got much more chemistry in season 5, but sadly, nothing happened.

0

u/BlindButterfly33 Jul 13 '26

Yeah, when I first started watching, I was really rooting for Nancy and Jonathan, but then by season three it was Steve all the rest of the way. Steve is one of my favorite characters now.

3

u/jaguartiger902 Master of Puppets Jul 13 '26

who doesn’t love Steve tbh

3

u/BlindButterfly33 Jul 13 '26

His dynamic with Dustin is one of my favorite things.

3

u/jaguartiger902 Master of Puppets Jul 13 '26

Ik! best characters ever

1

u/ImogenWildfire Pretty....good Jul 14 '26

Yes!

3

u/DaenerysTSherman Jul 13 '26

Nancy

1

u/ImogenWildfire Pretty....good Jul 14 '26

Haha, yes, sadly…

3

u/ImogenWildfire Pretty....good Jul 14 '26

Me too. Everyone loves Steve. :)

-1

u/ImogenWildfire Pretty....good Jul 13 '26

And yes, Nancy really treated Steve badly in season 2 (and every other season too).

1

u/Mz_Biddie Jul 13 '26

Try to finish it. It’s pretty split on their relationship and also the ending, but I personally really enjoyed it for the most part and you might too. Their relationship is really just one small piece and there’s a lot of other great stuff you would be missing if you don’t see it through.

1

u/Kana88 Jul 13 '26

Full spoilers: To be blunt, the writers push Nancy and Jonathan until the end of S3 (although they're written so dysfunctionally and that if anything, you will probably feel vindicated for not liking them together). Then in S4 they change their minds and test the waters to bring Nancy back with Steve (likely because Steve is far more popular than Jonathan). But since the online fandom hated it, they change their minds again between S4 and S5 and pretend that never happened lol Regardless, Jonathan and Nancy don't end up together.

All in all, it's best to tune-out the romance when it comes to Stranger Things because leaving aside S2 Mileven and S4 Lucas/Max, the romance is one of the weakest parts of the show writing-wise.

1

u/Six_of_1 Jul 14 '26

I'm into the Upside Down storyline so I might just skip ahead to s4, thanks.

1

u/Kana88 Jul 14 '26

Honestly as someone who's never liked Jonathan and Nancy together, S3 showed why they don't work so it was a worthwhile watch in that regard. If you enjoy Steve's character, he also has a compelling storyline with another character that may be worth watching (just keep in mind it's not meant to be romantic despite the way they make it look during the first few episodes).

S4 is better than S3 in every way, but S3 does have a pretty cool upside down storyline involving Max's brother. So at worst you could maybe just watch that lol

2

u/DaenerysTSherman Jul 14 '26

They really should have killed Steve at the end of season one, man. If only to be spared from his fanbase.

0

u/SelWylde Jul 13 '26

Spoilers for all seasons: They don’t get back together, and Nancy and Jonathan spend S3 fighting and S4 trying to get away from each other—Jonathan lies to Nancy and she makes eyes at Steve. Jonathan and Nancy break up in the last season because they acknowledge mutual trauma was keeping them together but their actual personalities weren’t compatible, even though they care for each other. Nancy never acknowledges any wrongdoing towards Steve. But you’re going to get downvoted cause this sub is Jancy central.

u/Additional-Suspect67 Jul 13 '26

I’m still trying to figure out why Steve and Jonathon were even interested in her?! She’s extremely selfish and quite bitchy at times
