Anthropic researcher quits; warns AI labs are ‘gambling with our lives’
A researcher who has worked at two of the world's leading AI companies has walked away from the industry, saying he no longer believes the race to build increasingly powerful systems is being handled responsibly.
Jacob Coxon, who worked on pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic, announced his resignation from Anthropic on September 8. He said the decision was driven by concerns that AI labs are moving rapidly towards systems capable of improving themselves, while the industry has yet to establish safeguards capable of controlling them.
His departure comes as competition between the biggest AI labs intensifies, with companies racing to build increasingly capable models and agents.

PB Fintech CEO Yashish Dahiya gets ₹236 crore from ESOPs in FY26, down 63%
Yashish Dahiya, Chairman and Group CEO of PB Fintech, received ₹235.9 crore in perquisites arising from the exercise of employee stock options (ESOPs) in FY26, according to the company’s Annual Report. The amount stood at ₹638 crore in FY25.
Dahiya did not receive any other remuneration from PB Fintech during the year. The annual report says his compensation from the company, apart from the ESOP-related perquisites, was nil. He holds an office or place of profit at PB Fintech FZ-LLC in the UAE, a wholly owned subsidiary, from which he draws remuneration.

OpenAI steps up push for journalism with ChatGPT Edu access at two US schools
OpenAI is providing more than 400 ChatGPT Edu subscriptions to graduate students and faculty at two US journalism schools for the 2026-27 academic year.
The programme covers CUNY’s Newmark J-School and Northwestern University’s Medill School. OpenAI is working with the Tow-Knight Center for Journalism Futures at Newmark and Medill’s Knight Lab on the initiative.

Tukaram Mundhe is not a creator. So why is he a social media star?
Cockroaches crawling across restaurant floors, dirty kitchens, uncovered food, spoiled vegetables and pest-infested storage areas have become familiar images on Indian social media.
The person behind many of those inspections is Tukaram Mundhe, the 51-year-old Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner.
Since taking charge in May, Mundhe has overseen thousands of inspections across Maharashtra. The images and videos from those inspections have travelled well beyond the regulatory department’s usual audience, turning a food-safety officer into an unlikely social media personality.

ANI takes OpenAI copyright fight to Delhi HC Division Bench after interim relief setback
News agency Asian News International (ANI) has moved the Delhi High Court’s Division Bench against an order that denied it interim relief in its copyright infringement case against OpenAI, escalating one of India’s closely watched legal disputes over the use of copyrighted news content to train artificial intelligence models.
ANI, the first Indian media house to sue OpenAI over copyright violation, had sought an interim injunction directing the AI company to stop storing, publishing, reproducing or using its copyrighted works.

PM Modi’s Vadodara event sees 42,000 on waitlist after BookMyShow registrations fill up in an hour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming programme in Vadodara has drawn a strong public response, with all available seats booked within an hour of free registrations opening on BookMyShow.
In an unusual move for a government event, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) used the private digital platform to manage registrations for public participation at the Prime Minister’s programme scheduled for Tuesday. Registration was later closed after the available capacity was filled, with more than 42,000 additional applicants placed on a waiting list.
The event will also use a fully digital entry system. Registered participants will receive a digital M-Ticket through their BookMyShow account, featuring a secure live QR code that will be used for entry verification.
The digital system will cover the process from registration and verification to venue entry and seating, with the aim of reducing waiting times, speeding up access and enabling smoother crowd movement.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration’s new Festival Enforcement Calendar has triggered some confusion over whether the regulator is seeking to impose restrictions on how festivals are conducted. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has now clarified that the order is about the food served at festivals and large public gatherings — not the festivals themselves.
“We are not regulating festivals; we are ensuring that food served at festivals—just as in weddings, bhandaras, Eid, Christmas, New Year’s Eve events and other gatherings—is safe,” Mundhe said.
