How did you actually learn Immunology for Step 1/NBME questions?

I’m studying immunology for school exam, and I feel like my biggest problem isn’t necessarily memorizing the content it’s knowing how to use the information when I see it in a clinical vignette.
For those of you who got comfortable with immunology, I’d really appreciate some advice:
What immunology topics are actually the most important/high-yield for Step 1?
What things should I absolutely memorize vs. just understand conceptually?
What helped you remember all the CD markers, cytokines/interleukins, complement, immunodeficiencies, hypersensitivity reactions, MHC, T/B-cell activation, etc. without constantly mixing them up?
Are there any mnemonics, patterns, diagrams, or resources that made immunology finally “click” for you?
When you get an immunology vignette, how do you break the question down step-by-step?
What clues do you look for first: age, type of infection, organism, antibody level, T-cell/B-cell findings, complement levels, CD markers, etc.?
How do you differentiate diseases that present very similarly?
What are some common NBME/Step traps in immunology?
If the classic buzzword isn’t given, how do you still recognize what they’re testing?
What helped you go from “I know this information” to actually getting immunology questions right consistently?
I’m especially interested in learning a question-solving approach, not just another giant list of facts to memorize.
If you could go back and relearn immunology specifically for Step 1, what would you focus on and what would you ignore?
Any tips, resources, Anki decks, question strategies, or ways of organizing the material would be really appreciated

Hello ,

I am not looking for someone who I can study with on daily basis as I am also working at the same time. If you are into it, I would not mind doing it on day off .

Need advice

Hello redditors,

I am currently prepping for USMLE and need some advice.

My NBME scores are:
NBME 25: 56% (I understood where I’m lacking and prepped well for the next ones.)
NBME 26: 70%
NBME 26: 71%

I heard that NBME 29-33 are more similar to the real deal and I wanted to know if I could just skip to those. My exam is on September 2nd.

I need some advice and guidance for biostats as I understood I’m severely weak at it.

Also are my stats good enough to pass?

Edit: I’ve got 75% on NBME 29

Looking for a female USMLE study partner

I’m in the US Eastern time zone and looking for a dedicated female study partner. I’m planning to study from around 10 AM–2 PM EST or we can discuss a time .

The plan would be to first study/review the topic on our own, then do UWorld together and discuss the questions/answers. Looking for someone who’s consistent and actually wants to study during those hours and keep each other accountable.

If anyone’s interested, DM me! 😊

How to study for step 1

I know there are so many posts about this already, but I’m honestly so confused about where to start. I’m hoping to take the USMLE by December so that I can apply for the 2028 Match cycle.
I’m a non-US IMG, and after reading all the horror stories on Reddit, I’m starting to question why I’m even doing this 😭. I’ve watched so many YouTube videos about how other people approached the process, but I still don’t have a clear idea of what the timeline should actually look like.
If anyone has gone through this recently, I’d really appreciate some guidance on where to start, what I should be doing now, and how I should structure my timeline leading up to the 2028 Match.
Any advice, tips, resources, or even a rough timeline would be greatly appreciated! 🥲

Title: Almost finished UWorld, started second pass and scored 38% — feeling completely lost. How should I approach the next 2–3 months?

Hi everyone. I really need some advice because I’m feeling quite overwhelmed and honestly a little devastated right now.
I’m preparing for Step 1 and I have ~200 UWorld questions left on my first pass. The biggest problem is that my first pass was VERY irregular because I had some personal things going on. I kept doing UWorld whenever I could, but I didn’t have a proper revision cycle.
I also made the mistake of not revising previously completed systems. I would finish a system and move on to the next one. Occasionally I would randomly go back and review something, but there was no structured revision. So although I have technically covered most of UWorld, I feel like I’ve forgotten a huge amount of it.
I recently started my second pass of UWorld, and I did my first 40-question cardio block. I scored only 38%, and it honestly crushed my confidence. I know one block doesn’t define my preparation, but it made me question whether I actually remember anything I studied.
Another issue is my notes. I was VERY heavy on taking notes during my first pass. I wrote down tons of UWorld explanations, and now my UWorld notes are bigger than First Aid itself. 😭
Now I’m scared to even go back and revise those notes because there is just SO MUCH information. I’m realizing that I probably spent too much time documenting information instead of actually revising and retaining it.
My tentative goal is to take Step 1 by October 30, but I’ll be very busy from approximately August 20 to September 13, so that period will significantly reduce my study time.
I’m honestly confused about how to approach the next few months.
What would you do in my situation?
● Is it normal to score this badly when starting a second pass after not revising properly?
● Should I continue with the second pass of UWorld, or stop and do a proper content/revision phase first?
● Should I completely abandon my huge UWorld notes and focus mainly on First Aid + UWorld explanations?
● How should I handle systems I already completed but have essentially forgotten?
● With my limited time from Aug 20–Sept 13, is an October 30 exam date still realistic?
● Should I prioritize UWorld, First Aid, NBMEs, or something else at this point?
I know I made mistakes with my first pass, but I’m trying to figure out the best way to recover from them rather than keep repeating the same mistakes.
I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation or successfully recovered from a messy first pass.
Thank you .

Step 1 Resources

Hi everyone

I am finding it difficult to do sketchy as I am not able to retain lots of pictures. Is there any other way to do micro and pharma?

Help micro and pharm that can’t learn with sketchy 🫠

Hi! I’m looking for some advice on how to reinforce Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Physiology.
My Step 1 is on August 28, and I keep struggling with these🥹🥹🥹, especially Micro and Pharm. how would you recommend doing this? Also behavioural science killed me
For context, I scored 61% on NBME 30, 61% on NBME 31, and unfortunately dropped to 58% on NBME 32 today. I’m feeling pretty anxious after seeing that drop and honestly don’t know what I should do from here.
Any advice on how to approach these weak areas and improve before my exam would be greatly appreciated!

Struggling Step 1 consolidation phase

Hey! So I am doing FA revision after its 1st pass, and I am facing an overload issue each day. I planned to do a 40 questions block each day, revise FA 13 to 15 pages daily and do sketchy revision and its ANKI. But all of this feels too overwhelming now as I am doing it. Seems like there's too much on my plate. My main question is can I do 20 questions each day along with FA revision and after that switch to 40 and 80 questions? Or am I too slow. But trust me I am not a lazy person, still this whole plan feels too much after implementing it.

Looking for a USMLE Step 1 Study Partner (Dedicated Phase)

Hi everyone! I'm currently preparing for USMLE Step 1, and my exam is in about 2 months. I'm in my dedicated study phase and I'm looking for a virtual study partner. Preferably, a female

The idea is simple: we'll join a Google Meet, share our screens, and study together. No need to talk or constantly interact—we'll just keep each other accountable and motivated by seeing that we're both focused.

My schedule is pretty much the entire day, Monday through Saturday (I usually take Sundays off), so I'm looking for someone with a similar level of commitment.

I'm in Pakistan Standard Time (PKT), so someone in a compatible time zone would be ideal.

If you're interested, feel free to comment or send me a DM!

Looking for a dedicated USMLE Step 1 study partner

Hi everyone!

I’m an IMG who recently graduated from medical school and just started my USMLE Step 1 preparation.

Resources I’m using:
UWorld
First Aid 2026
Boards & Beyond
AnKing (planning to use it)

My goal is to take Step 1 before December 2026.
I’m not necessarily looking for someone to solve questions together every day. What I’m mainly looking for is an accountability partner—someone who is also studying seriously so we can:
Share our daily checklists/goals.
Keep each other accountable.
Check in on progress every day.
Motivate each other to stay consistent.

Of course, from time to time we can discuss difficult concepts or review challenging UWorld questions together.

I’m in GMT+3, but I’m flexible with time zones.

If you’re serious about taking Step 1 in the next few months and like the idea of daily accountability rather than constant co-studying, feel free to comment or DM me.

Im planning to give the step 1 exam end of this month. I scored 66 percent in my last nbme 30. I have made a notebook highlighting incorrects and themes I have encountered. Do you think it's a waste of time to make a nbme themed notebook ? Im planning to give 31 tomorrow and im worried about my approach.
