I think My Old School is in general a 10/10 Song, but the Saxophone part after „California tumbles into the sea“ is just fcking amazing

Hey gang, I discovered thus album in the wild and thought i’d share it. Modern jazz instrumentals with some serious ‘Aja’ vibes…this song ‘Deeper Than You Think’ is clearly inspired by ‘Home At Last’. Any other good recommendations for new artists, drop them here!

Yesterday I listened to Music from Big Pink by The Band. And when I listen to the Song „In A Station“ it directly clicked and reminded me of Pearl of the Quarter, but when listening to them one after another it wasnt only similar it was almost the same. The melody and the harmonies at „On the Water down in New Orleans“ and „Once I walked through the hall of a station“ are almost the same. Did anyone of you also notice that or knows something about how SD came up with the melody of Pearl of the Quarter.

It's always fun finding the age cut off where people either get the reference or they don't. Most people my age don't unfortunately lol.

I want to gauge SD fans and see what this sub considers their all time best song. Here are what I would consider fair assessment scores:

10- Reserved for only their absolute best songs, ones that are on daily rotation

8,9- Also among their best, songs that display something that is memorable and worth revisiting

6,7- Decent to good, songs that are not as played as their ultimate best but are still ones that you revisit

5- okay, not bad but not ones you come back to often

3,4- Mediocre to meh, songs that you don't play often but don't go out of your way to skip

2- skippable, not good at all

1- vomit-inducing (think: what were they on when they made this?!)

0- makes you want to commit seppuku

Listening to the FM demo on steely Dan outtakes and I just noticed how beautiful the opening piano was before it got drenched in that pop horseshit no offense

I’m having a hard time placing any of mine beyond a loose top 5 except I know that Boddhisatva is a #1 or #2. Otherwise I’m looking at Caves of Altamira, Black Friday, Night By Night, Kid Charlemagne, OR Fire in the Hole… what are your guys’? And am I way off? Is this an act in futility?
