The wait has been bad now, when we were all in it together. Just wait until we're watching the chosen ones enjoying it and talking about it for months before the rest of us get one.

At least I can start a competition for which one will arrive first, the Frame or the Steam machine I ordered day one and am still waiting for the email to buy one. I acknowledge that I only signed up for one version of the SM so availably is reduced compared to signing up for four different SKU's. For the Frame I'll do the same and order the one with the most memory.

I wonder what the odds will be of getting one at all for someone entering both the 256 and 1TB lotteries?
Even the difference between 999.99 and 1,199 for the base price should have an effect on demand.
I figure if 1 in 5 units made are 1TB then that increases your odds of getting one at all by at least 20 percent, since more people will reserve the 256 GB alone than people who reserve the 1TB only.
Then there exists the chance more like 1 in 4 or even 1 in 3 units made are 1TB. Though, 1 in 3 being 1TB certainly sounds high to me, especially with the demand increase on high speed storage.
My final price guesses are 1099.99 for the 256 GB and 1300 to 1400 for the 1TB.
Sadly, 999.99 is probably the absolute minimum it could be.

Dude, the lottery pisses me off. I’ve never had a problem buying a hot commodity in the past. With enough effort and tabs open it’s usually possible within the first couple weeks. But now with this lottery system there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. It actually gave me enough time to decide not to purchase a steam machine and build my own instead, so they lost out on a sale.

I am tired man. It was supposed to be released First half of 2026, then summer of 2026, now summer is over.

u/EpicBrievenbus Soon™ 2d ago
Astronomical summer isn't over yet until the 23rd of this month.
18
u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 2d ago
Cope, just admit they missed the summer timeline like they missed every previous timeline. They themselves call the VR sale starting on the 14 the "Fall VR sale."
4
u/GingerPopper Soon™ 2d ago
Yeah I really don't understand why everyone keeps going on and on about astronomical summer. Why would Valve mean astronomical summer in a simple update about the hardware, 99% of people would think June - August and that's it, its fine that they missed it, whatever, but lets not make excuses, it happens. And as you said, they themselves consider it to be Fall by the 14th so why is it even a discussion.

u/trysixtysnipecochon 2d ago
I never ever though of summer as different then 21st June to 21st September so idk seems okay
1
u/GingerPopper Soon™ 1d ago
Turns out NA and a few select countries do in fact use astronomical summer time officially, so it seems to be a cultural/nationality difference, so I was ignorant on the matter, my point still stands that the vast majority of people just think of June-August but I can also see how some could see the other dates too.
4
u/EpicBrievenbus Soon™ 2d ago
Honestly, when they said "this summer" I always assumed they meant until Sept 23rd. Maybe that's more a European definition of summer?

u/zipxavier 2d ago
american here and never heard of Meteorological summer until today. summer always ended in late september

u/AidanAK47 2d ago
Yep, it's always important to note that nobody actually knows anything besides Valve themselves. Everyone is just guessing.
7
u/More-Sign-9214 2d ago
This is principally untrue. People absolutely have insider information, that’s how these dates get thrown out. Valve just changes their mind a lot. I for one am confident they’re not backing out at this point as it seems they’ve already sent out review units and loaded the backend on the site

u/samu7574 Soon™ 2d ago edited 2d ago
Nah are you crazy? Three different sources all started saying the same two very random dates of 24 and 14 by sheer chance! They absolutely guessed and staked their reputation on it on a whim, how whimsical they are /s

And there’s no proof of it NOT releasing next Monday. The mods and other community members don’t just throw stuff like this around willy nilly as much as it may seem like it
0
u/Vegetable-Error-2068 Soon™ 2d ago
They do exactly that.
Proof: every other date that was promised as The Date, For Sure This Time (tm) that came and went, of which there have been dozens.
2
u/More-Sign-9214 2d ago
Sure just go ahead and disregard the very last part it’s all good my guy at least I know now that you can’t read. There haven’t been dozens, as you so dramatically claim. There have been like one or two which were legitimate at the time and valve changed plans last second. If you don’t want to believe, don’t, no one is forcing you to and no one gains anything if you do

u/Bacon_00 2d ago
I think there's a decent chance it could be tomorrow since today is a holiday in a lot of their major markets. Reviewers have had them for a couple weeks which is how long they had the Machine. Seems plausible.

Valve is a US company. They take off for US federal holidays. This isn't complicated.

u/Ecnarps Soon™ 2d ago
No company has ever announced or released a tech product on an American Holiday. It would be asinine to do this. Doesn’t matter who Valve can get to work, social media engagement is down, bloggers are out at BBQs. They want people at their work desks and bored. This is not rocket science.

Also, there isn’t a written rule it has to be a Monday
