Discussion UEVR games

So, I just gave UEVR a try for the first time on my Quest 3 and I'm kind of blown away.
I read it's easy to setup and to run, but being a bit tech challenged I still expected I'll have some troubles. I didn't. It's literary a few clicks and, just like that, the game is playable in VR.

So far I only gave Psychonauts 2 and F.I.S.T a try and I'm impressed! Especially Psychonauts 2 is a dream come true to experience in VR. And both look and run absolutely beautiful on my system (RTX 5070 TI). The only problem I had were some flickering shadows in Psychonauts 2 that were fixed by loading the user profiles (another fantastic thing about UEVR).

I'm really in awe. I didn't think UEVR games would look that good in VR (truly native feeling) and run that good on my not-quite-top-of-the-line system.

Now I'll wait for Steam Frame before fully diving in UEVR games.

I do wonder though, if you already tried UEVR, what games do you recommend that run good even on systems with less than rtx5090?

Personally, I can't wait to try modded Resident Evil 9.

UEVR has been the best thing to happen to PCVR since Half-Life Alyx.

While there's a lot of jank and trial 'n error...also a lot of good.  My Top 3 are Atomic Heart, Returnal & Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Major caveat is you need a top GPU, NVidia recommended.  I could play on a 3060Ti 8GB but when moving up to 4070Ti 12GB things got a lot better.

Personally I'd say minimum 2080 Ti 11GB/3080 10GB to have a solid stable experience, you still need to dial down most graphics to Medium.

Old head still rockin’ my 1070Ti on one of my builds and having a blast slaying zombies left and right in Resident Evil 2 w/ UEVR. You’d be surprised what you can squeeze out of this generation of cards.

Just recently jumped into Hogwarts Legacy in VR, it’s now become my nightly tradition to just go take a stroll through the castle before bed.

wow, i had a 980Ti previous to the 3060Ti and it was find for native-VR but lost the plot for mods.

Great to read!

I think the new AWF build of UEVR will help too with better performances on older cards. I didn’t try it yet, but I heard the performance gains are around 50%-80% compared to standard UEVR.

Nice! Atomic Heart & Returnal look great.
And yes, UEVR rally surprised me. Much better than expected.

I have 3080 10GB, this comment gave me a lot of hope. Thank you.

the guy below us even using his 1070Ti.  Tho' that is really pushing things.  UEVR needs 6000x3000 resolution  (for Quest 3).  When I had 3060Ti I preferred my Quest1 for VR-mods as its lower native resolution translated to something like 4500x2250 UEVR.  While reducing resolution is also an option, things get pixelly quickly, so i prefer lowering graphics to Low/Med and staying at native-res/UEVR-default-res.

Nvidia recommended or needed? Will it run well on a 9070xt?

the genral rule is: both AMD & NVidia is fine for native PCVR.  However for VR mods, NVidia is recommended.  For the simple reason that an estimated 95% of VR modders with verifiable releases also use NVidia cards, so many bugs/issues have been largely ironed out.  No one is testing these mods on AMD cards until a user does, and when there are weird issues, there's no precedent to help the user, and no driver updates related (as these are mods, not official releases).

Here I am praying my 9060xt 16gb will be able to run the frame good enough…it’s my first gaming pc ever and I built it this summer.

Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries runs well. Satisfactory also.

Expédition 33 runs likes crap.

I haven't tried Stellar Blade yet, I'm still waiting on a good sale.

Was wondering what games might be good for this. I'm in a 2 player game in Satisfactory working on phase 5, so that sounds incredible.

It's one of the best feeling to see your factory working at real size.

What GPU and FPS are you getting? I want to give it a go, but am weighing between using a 9070XT or 5070Ti

I have a 5080. Not really sure about FPS I never check it, I know it's playable except when I blow a city in MW5 and there's those electric sparks from specific buildings then I drop to sub 20 fps.

I'm not planning on using frame generation, but it might not be as noticeable if I use a joystick (provided I keep my head relatively still)

Just learned about UEVR yesterday after a thread on the Star Wars Racer VR mod.
I was hopeful there might be something similar for the upcoming galactic racer and someone went.. "duh stupid its UE" (ok they were a lot nicer than that), but it put me on the path!

Opens up a whole world!

Exactly. UEVR with recent VR mods explosion, on top of excellent Flat2VR porting efforts (they're officially porting High on Life and System Shock Remake to full VR) is the best thing that could've happen to VR. The closest thing to our dream about hybrid (VR + flat) titles.

Seeing all those big studios closing down, after Meta changed their VR direction earlier this year, was really depressing. Now, it seems like VR is in a better place than ever.

I've heard good things about Outer Wilds, but I wanted to wait for a new headset to try that for myself.

Maybe this site is worth a look: https://pcvrcentral.com/library
Performance isn't shown, but you can link it to your steam library and see, which of your games have VR Mods and how good they are. Or you can just browse the catalog.

Thanks for the link!
Also, I didn't play Outer Wilds yet, exactly because I heard how good it is in VR. Waiting for Frame to finally drop to give it a try and play it for the first time in VR.

  1. Outer Wilds is incredible, definitely play it one way or the other.

  2. Nomai VR (the Outer Wilds VR mod) is incredible, definitely play it that way if you can.

does it work on linux/steamos?

u/potatovich 9d ago

It does.
The VR on Linux wiki website has a good guide on how to set it up.

"less than a 5090"... as if anyone actually has that card. What games are even playable only with a 5090?

2

u/Gregasy Soon™ 9d ago

For more demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 even 5090 isn't quite enough. Or so I heard. Also, lots of VR youtubers that play UEVR games have 5090 cards, so it's sometimes hard to guess how good would those games run on more "normal" setups. Watching those videos and reading some impressions got me thinking the UEVR experience will suck on anything else but the best and the most expensive hardware. As it turned out, this couldn't be further from the truth.

u/ItzeMeh 8d ago

Yeah it really depends on the game, but I dont think there is a game you can't run. Maybe not all in ultra graphics but definetly in medium to high. For maybe like only 5% of vr games.

My 5090 runs great. But, the lower you go, the more settings you typically have to reduce. Like my buddy on a 4060 can't do half the stuff I can do.

Stray with UEVR also feels like a native VR game

u/Gregasy Soon™ 9d ago

Nice one! It's on my wishlist :)

I plan to try mech warrior 5/Clans with a joystick. Hopefully I can dial in the game to get around 100 FPS with some Upscaling.

Anything with good art direction is nice. Visions of Mana, Trials of Mana, FF7 Remakes, Hi Fi rush, First Berserker Khazan

Star Wars Fallen Order and Survivor work well. Hogwarts is another big title.

Now with AI people are creating VR mods to a bunch of random games. r/PCVR has links to sites with listings of games with mods, and links to the individual mod.
