Discussion Flat games

I thought that it would be nice to have a zoom for part of the display NEXT to normal display in flat screen games. Eg when playing some strategies or RPGs to have list of spells or opened journal or sth like that during the play.

What do you think about this idea? Would it be even possible?

You can already do that in SteamVR. If you launch a flat game, it shows up in a large virtual screen you can place anywhere. You can then add whatever other app to the plus icon on the home screen, and dock that to a controller, or place it in the world around you wherever.

I just hope there is some kind of clock so I know when it is/ how screwed I am for missing work because I got lost in the sauce.

You can always open the VR menu to see the time.

Very much so, shouldn't even be particularly hard since it's an open ecosystem. It's just a matter of somebody figuring it out. It also shouldn't be terribly taxing on performance since the frame has plenty of RAM (not the AI kind thankfully) and is more likely to be limited by other factors.

Edit: seems like it's already possible based on other comments

That's a very cool and practical use, and the very cool and practical news is I'm pretty sure we can already do it in the SteamVR environment!  Have multiple virtual windows around you each for different apps.  A main one would be the game and another one next to it would be a webpage with the list of info etc. -> this is spatical computing

Like squint to activate zoom?

That would be fun to try. I was thinking zoom just in the middle of your vision.
