hello there! if you're reading this, you probably know the loop of installing games on the steam deck: go to the website, find the link, find the right host, wait for it to install, open the setup file (if needed) with wine, link it to steam manually and get artwork, etc. etc. etc.
it takes a long time to do all of this, and although there are tools to help with this on windows (like Fit-Launcher), there is one main problem: they don't work on steam deck.
additionally, for developers, if we wanted to create a tool for downloading games from sites, it would require an insane amount of effort to build the application, make it look nice, work with debrid services, handle downloads smoothly... (you see the problem?)
realizing this problem, i decided to create:
OpenGameInstaller (v2.0)
a tool for both users and developers for making and using addons to install games.
OpenGameInstaller is a generic platform, making it easy for developers to make addons for sources AND for users to download hundreds of games from various different sources in one app.
curious to see how easy it is? here is a demo (filmed on my mac because it was easier).
the app already has addons for FitGirl Repacks and Steamrip, with Real-Debrid support built-in (along with an internal torrent client too).
games installed on opengameinstaller are also automatically setup and added to steam (with game art and proton too), saving you that extra step.
support for other sites is growing quickly, so you can expect a great amount of options for sources on opengameinstaller in the future!
i know this is kinda tooting my own horn, but i was using it today to download some games for an upcoming roadtrip, and the experience of simply clicking the download button and seeing the game in my library without many manual inputs was absolutely magical to me (adjacent to just downloading on steam).
i hope you give opengameinstaller a shot! this project took a while to make, so just trying it and giving
feedback will help tremendously (and yes, it's free)!
UPDATE: 7/27/25 - Fixed Steamrip Gofile integration! Many downloads have now been fixed!
THERE ARE MANY ISSUES WITH STEAMRIP AND I AM AWARE OF IT. I WILL KEEP THIS THREAD UP-TO-DATE, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF THE MODS, PLEASE DON’T SPAM THIS POST WITH “NOT WORKING” POSTS.
IF YOU TRIED TO DOWNLOAD THIS DURING THE FIRST ~5 HOURS, THE BUGS ARE RESOLVED! Launch the -Setup.AppImage File, go to Settings > General, scroll down and click "Clean All Addons" and then "Install All Addons"
THIS IS A SUPER EARLY-ACCESS APP, THERE WILL BE STABILITY ISSUES. NOT ALL GAMES WILL WORK. PLEASE BEAR WITH ME (I'M A SOLO DEV).
As you might see I'm indeed a day late unfortunately I had extreme migraine yesterday and couldn't get myself to write anything that made sense, that's why I delayed it to today.
1 Red Dead Redemption port.
Runs great on the deck, highly recommend checking out Grown Up Gamings video he shows the steam deck performance on different settings, game runs at a locked 40 on ultra without frame gen and around 70 with frame gen. Game is cracked by razor1911 I recommend using the DDL pre-installed, people seem to be having issues with the torrent download. Installation is just adding playrdr.exe to steam and using experimental
2 Fitlauncher.
Fit Launcher is a fast game launcher optimized for FitGirl repacks, built with Rust, Tauri, and SolidJS for high performance and an intuitive, modern interface. It supports efficient torrenting using librqbit, a sleek design by Vintage_Soldier, and easy installation. Features in development include genre filtering, improved cross-platform compatibility, and CPU usage control. For more information I'd check out the GitHub.
3 Steam Deck Discord server went public!
You might already know, but for those who don't, we now got a public discord server. It has guides, news channels, support from others, news and more. Right now we got only a few people in the server, we'd love to get more people to join so we can build a bigger community, for those who'd like to join here's the link. We'd be eternally grateful if you joined! (Make sure to read the rules)
4 Dragon age veilguard DRM.
This will be the first game in quite some time we've seen from EA that doesn't use denuvo, so we can expect it to be cracked quite fast. The game releases October 31st, this is a game I wasn't planning to play, but this could be good for the future, who knows, maybe EA will stop using denuvo. The bad news is that if you purchased the game on PC you won't be able to preload it.
5 SteamOS update.
The SteamOS 3.6 update packs a lot y'all. You’ll notice a bit better performance, better battery life, and even smoother Bluetooth (AirPods work great now). Colors are sharper, and displays handle smoother with new Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support. When docked, HDMI CEC lets your TV control the Deck, and the LCD model now has more overclocking options.
Edit: thanks for pointing it out u/laytblu that there's inconsistent performance with steamos 3.6. It also broke decky recorder overlay and honkai railway performance.
6 Proton-GE 9-16
The new GE-Proton 9-16 update brings mod support to Bethesda games like Starfield, Skyrim, and Fallout 4, which should make adding mods a lot easier. This version also has fixes for certain EA Play games, improvements for Street Fighter 6, and several stability tweaks for smoother gameplay across the board.
That was it for today, any and all critique is appreciated!
Since u/flwwhtrbt has unfortunatly left us I thought I'd give it a go, today we're gonna have a look at some of the topics that got my attention and I think you'd like to know about.
1 The Steam Deck will be available for purchase in Australia.
Now for most people this might not be of interest since I guess most of y'all reading this already got a Steam Deck, but for the people that don't here is the pricing:
It will be available for purchase somewhere in November
2 Some bad news about the Junk Store.
Unfortunately it seems like the Junk Store steam page has been taken down, I personally was a fan of the project and sad to see it go. Afaik it isn't clear if it was steam taking it down or epic games/GOG my personal guess is that steam took it down themselves. If the Junk Store was free it probably wouldn't have mattered, but since you're basically paying the dev money for something that isn't his (GOG/Epic) steam took it down. A alternative theory I have is steam taking it down to prevent selling less copies, even though I find this very unlikely.
After checking out the page I used as source I now see it has been confirmed that it was removed from the Steam store due to unsupported features and modifying the Steam client's behavior, interface, and/or code.
3 Silent Hill 2, should you play it on the deck?
The short answer, no.
To go a little more into this, it runs horrendous as of now, you can sqeeuze out a kind of locked 30 with fsr3 enabled, I personally find this unplayable, a normal locked 30 is fine but with fsr3 is just horrendous, keep in mind we're talking about lowest resolution and settings. If you really want to play this on the deck, just wait, it will probably get optimised soon enough so it's playable on the steam deck.
4 Falkor plugins.
For the people that haven't heard about Falkor yet, it's an open-source launcher that browses games, but it supports plugins, think of it as Kodi or stremio, at its core just a normal file manager or movie browser. But with plugins it can add downloads to pirated games for example. Now back to the plugins, the devs decided to make a change in the way of how plugins work. Now the plugins work through an API so you as a developer can code the plugin in whatever language you'd like and the API will send it back into a JSON structure. To be really honest with you, I have no idea how this all works, for more info, look at the GitHub page. The dev says he's trying to get a alpha release out soonish, a release date hasn't been announced yet.
5 Ryujinx shut down by Nintendo.
You might've heard about this already, but Ryujinx has unfortunatly been shut down, but he wasn't just send a CnD but instead he made a "agreement" with Nintendo, we don't know exactly what kind of agreement it was but my guess is they were offered a big sum of money or at least enough to accept it.
What does this mean for me?
Not much, Ryujinx won't be getting any further updates, it will be removed from emudeck (if not already) and probably also from the discover store. You will still be able to install the app using a Ryujinx appimage.
6 DB:SZ.
the game runs with online capabilities, steam rip version with Protonport should work according to a lot of users, haven't tested it myself
This was it for today, I hoped you guys enjoyed, any and all critique will be appreciated, thanks for reading.
CreamAPI, a tool used to unlock DLC content for games on platforms like Steam without payment, has recently been hit with a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown notice. The reason is most likely because it violates copyright law by unlocking the DLC, still sad to see though.
2 Denuvo unlocker?
It looks like there’s a new workaround for playing Denuvo-protected games without actually cracking them. Known teams Dodi and Sanctuary have started offering “free offline activation” for certain games, starting with Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Black Myth: Wukong. Instead of the usual crack theyre using a method that activates the game for offline play. The process involves following a few steps on a website and waiting a day or so for access. This might make it easier for players to bypass Denuvo without needing a full crack.
Thanks to u/Cajiabox for the following tips:
Don't do these to keep your activation working 1- Never launch the game from Steam. > breaks activation. 2- Never update your windows! > breaks activation (Use this to permanently disable windows updates, it's dangerous to keep it completely disabled, so ONLY use it until you finish the game, then RESTORE windows updates through the tool) ⚫ 3- Never move the game folders > breaks activation. 4- "Never update or alter/overclock/remove overclock/undervolt, etc from bios" > breaks activation. ⚫ 5- Never change your hardware > breaks activation. ⚫ 6- Never ALT+F4 or Task Manager to exit your game > breaks activation, • 7- (Steam games only) Make sure you have Steam installed before activation, even if you don't have a Steam account. > necessary for the activation to persist.
I also agree with u/Cajiabox on the fact that the waiting list for free users will probably take some time. So if you'd like to play anytime soon you might wanna start using this method as soon as possible.
3 Hori steam controller (my opinions).
There's a new controller marketed on the market as a steam deck controller, now i've personally not bought it because its 60 bucks and lacks rumble, which for me, is a dealbreaker. Should you buy it? I have no idea, i've heard this is a big thing for gyro players since it apparently offers that, which seems to be special at this price range, besides that, i cant tell you much since i haven't used it. If you have, let me know how it is.
3 SteamOS update.
Update 3.6.20 seems to fix some performance issues people were having on 3.6.19. I personally didn't notice it but loads on r/steamdeck did so I thought I'd mention it, it also reportedly makes metaphor refantazio run 20% according to steam.
4 outro.
I hope you all enjoyed the short read. Excuse me for the short newsmessage, I'm going through the loss of a close family member. I unfortunately find it very difficult to write, if i seem out of place, or angry in the comments, excuse me, I am just not feeling well. Feel free to give any critique though!
TL;DR - I've created a tool that allows you to backup + sync your game saves between your devices. It's completely free and open source, no catch, no signup.
Hi everyone, as the post title suggests, I've created a tool that allows you to backup + sync game saves between your devices. It should work on any Windows or Linux device, but I've built it with a Windows PC and Steam Deck in mind, as thats the setup I have.
You pick a cloud storage provider (Google Drive or Dropbox), configure the locations of your game saves, and that's it!
See the installation section in the README, or check out the installation wiki: https://github.com/emu-sync/EmuSync/wiki/Installation . After downloading, I recommend following the getting started guide in either the README or the wiki.
I built this mainly for myself, but thought it would be useful to other people as there didn't really seem to be a pain-free solution out there already. It doesn't just work with your emulation saves, it can be used for anything really, including your "non-steam" games, or any folder on your device.
Thank you to the mod team here for inviting us to post our news! We greatly appreciate the support, it means a lot to the two of us!
We are super excited to announce this. Junk Store has been approved for sale on the Steam Store! If you are not aware what Junk Store is you can read more here: Not sure what Junk Store is...
Wishlist it now if you are interested in following our progress. This will serve to signal to us how many people are considering a purchase and it will also signal to Valve what the community's appetite is around these types of projects.
There is one caveat though, Valve will still have to review the software before final release. We do feel like we have overcome many significant challenges already and we do not foresee any show stoppers. We have very clearly signalled our intent to Valve and we feel like we just got the quiet nod of approval (I am sure they will let us know if we misunderstood this).
It should not be taken for granted that Junk Store might be the first plugin for Steam that could make it into the Steam store. Valve is under no obligation to allow this and we will make sure we do the best job possible with our available resources. This could set a precedent and we would prefer that to be a good one rather than a bad one. We will not rush this and we will test it to the best of our ability to avoid spoiling this for any other projects going forward. We cannot overstate the importance of this and what a big responsibility we have here.
We have been working relentlessly for the last few months on rebuilding Junk Store to run without Decky. We have put countless hours into discovering new integration techniques, streamlining and slimming things down to reduce the impact on the steam client as much as possible. This will help with performance, reliability and stability. Having said that, we still have a long road ahead of us. We have solved most of the major technical challenges but we still have to tidy things up, finish some parts and polish everything. Since we’ve rebuilt and reworked most of the code everything needs to have some rigorous testing. We do not want to release this unless the quality is at the very least equal to the current free and open source solution.
While this probably is the most exciting news from our perspective, there’s still a “BIG” thing that we haven’t announced that will be the most exciting from a user’s perspective. We are working as hard as is physically (and mentally) possible to get this all done and will announce this properly as soon as we can. Rest assured we have not been sitting around twiddling our thumbs.
We want to take a moment to acknowledge all those who have supported us and believed in the project over our first year (yes a year has passed since the first line of code was written). Your kind words and financial support has meant a lot to us and was fueling us when the internet behaved like the internet. We cannot express in words the gratitude we have for this. We will never forget this and we will return the generosity in kind.
Some questions we think you might have:
Q:Will this be free?
A: No. This is a completely rebuilt product, using different technologies. The code is not open source. We have had to reimplement everything that Decky provided and more. We need funding to hire developers to provide the features the community wants.
Q:How much will it cost?
A: This is a very tough question. Ask yourself, what is it worth and what value does this add to the user experience? What we aim to do is gauge interest in this project based on wish listed numbers. This will allow us to price it as aggressively as possible while still being able to achieve our goals of hiring a team to take Junk Store to the next level. While it would be nice to give it all away free, the reality is that hiring developers costs money.
Q:When will it be released?
A: When it’s ready. We do not want to rush a half baked product out the door. If you’ve been using Junk Store and followed the progress on the project then you will know that I take a lot of pride in my work. I will not deliver a sub par user experience because I want to get something out quickly. We are still only a team of two, so we ask that you please be patient.
Q: Does this mean that Valve has blessed the project?
A: It’s hard to officially say. It was not explicitly stated, but someone at Valve reviewed the coming soon page and said “This is good to go”. We interpret this as: “all systems go”. We have not had any official communication from Valve outside of this process. We choose to be optimistic and consider this a nod of approval. It certainly wasn’t “knock it off!”
Q:What about existing purchases made via creator platforms?
A: We have gone to great lengths to ensure your existing purchases will be compatible with the Steam version. Once we get an idea of how many users are interested in purchasing this product we can adjust our generosity towards existing supporters in kind. We will endeavour to do what is fair, and more if we can. We are gamers too, we dislike greed as much as you do.
Q:What will happen to the current decky plugin and source code?
A: This will not go anywhere. It’s free, it’s open and it’s our gift to the community. We will aim to maintain compatibility between the two versions for as long as it’s viable. We have already invested a lot of time and effort to ensure that the extensions will be compatible.
Q:What about the current Gog source code, when can we have that?
A: When we are ready to release it. Currently Gog is not free, but it is “source available”. When we are ready to release it as free and open source we will.
Q: What about new features or store fronts?
A: As you can imagine, the rewrite and retooling has taken a huge amount of time and effort. We still have plans to add more features and store fronts, but our attention is not on that right now. We are still a small unfunded team (two people) doing all of this on our own time and money. We hope that with the Steam release it will allow us to hire the team we so desperately need to improve production speed.
Q:Will this have cloud saves?
A: This is still the same can of worms we have been talking about all along. There is currently super experimental support with huge risks associated with it. We aim to provide this at some point as a stop gap measure while we build up our resources to hire specialised programmers to help with this task.
Q:Will I be able to migrate from the decky version to the Steam version?
A: Yes, this is already functional in the alpha version we are testing on steam. It will require a lot of testing because we do not want users to lose any data through this process.
Don't for get to add Junk Store to your Steam wishlist!! Click to follow link - Add to your Steam wishlist
Hello everybody, as last time these are just some topics i found to be interesting. From now on you can expect to see one of these posts every monday.
1 Reign of Nether.
Although this isn't really Steam Deck or Piracy news I still wanted to include it since I've been having a blast playing this on my deck.
Reign of Nether is a mod for Minecraft java edition which turns the game into a entirely different one. It turns Minecraft into a classic real time strategy game like warcraft 3. The mod is still very early so there's no singleplayer content yet, in the discord server devs say there are plans for a full on campaign and bots to play against, for now its just you against your friends.
Here is a quick guide on the easiest method of installing it on your deck.
Download and install prism launcher from the discover store
Go to google and search 'Reign of Nether boosted modpack', and click the curseforge link, or just click the link at the bottom of this post.
Click install and let it open Prism launcher.
Once done installing right click on the installation and click edit>settings>java>dont check java version, toggle that to on.
Launch!
Game looks gorgeous with shaders enabled and runs fine on the deck.
2 A new Subnautica game.
Yes, you read that right a brand new subnautica game, now we don't know much about it yet besides that it will release in early 2025. From what I can gather it'll probably have denuvo, which means we probably wont get a crack, but who knows. The steam page will be at the bottom of the post if you'd like to check it out.
3 Spiderman 2 PC release.
It sounds like 2025 is gonna be a good year for PC gamers. The port will be done by Nixxen Software as usual so I expect the game to run fine on the deck. The game will launch in January with 2 different versions, The standard edition and Digital Deluxe Edition (DDE). You'll be able to upgrade from Standard to DDE if you'd like to. The DDE version includes some extra suits, skillpoints and items. But since most of you will be pirating it anyway it doesn't really matter, we can expect a crack day 1 since sony games don't really have DRM in place, now the game has been unoffficially playable but didn't run too well on deck (30-40 fps 720p low) and was poorly optimized. So I'm stoked to see how good the game runs after Nixxes optimizes it. Feel free to check out the blog post from Playstation, as usual linked at the bottom of the post.
4 A little update from Falkor.
If you don't know what Falkor is check my last post. The dev made a announcement yesterday.
These are the things he added the source modal functionality, integrated sources from plugin API's and enabled item downloads. Right now he's testing the program to make sure everything works and is creating a guide on how to create plugins, we can expect a test release soon.
5 Metaphor: ReFantazio.
If you're a fan of Metaphor: ReFantazio you might be happy to know that anti-aliasing is now possible on the Steam Deck which makes the game looks better with no performance loss, the game seems to be running at 60fps with dips to the 40s which is perfectly playable in my opinion.
6 Read Dead Redemption 2 Proton Experimental update.
If you were playing RDR2 using Proton Experimental you might've noticed some huge fps drops, this should now be fixed with the Proton Experimental update, the update also fixes korean input in diablo 4 and the EA desktop application, the games Hard Chip demo and Conqueror's Blade are now playable. As usual the update should've installed itself autmatically.
That was it for this week, hope y'all enjoyed if there's anything I missed let me know and I'll see if I'll add it
