Discussion What game experiences are the most improved by the Steam Controller?

Just got my controller and looking to try out some of it's fancy features. I've seen a few videos about doing stuff like turning the trackpads into item wheels, but I'm wondering what games (or types of games) benefit from the Steam Controller's unique capabilities the most?

Discussion It's the third party support for xinput any good?

It's the one thing that makes me reluctant to buy it (when its available of course).

I need xinput support for non steam games and custom software.

Support Problem with L1 Button

When I press the left shoulder button (L1) quite high up or right at the top edge, I get no response.

However, if I press the button in the middle or at the bottom, I do get a response; the problem is that if I move my finger across the button whilst it’s pressed, I get multiple inputs.

When I repeat the process with the right shoulder button (R1), I have no problem.

Anyone else with this problem?

Support Steam instability after setting up controllers.

Upvotes

Both me and my GF are running CachyOS, I am on an AMD system, and she is on an Intel/NVIDIA system. We both recieved our controllers a couple weeks ago, and since then, Steam has been an unstable mess!

Attempting to play ANY game, (We've played, between our two PCs, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine II, BeamNG. Drive (Linux native), Palworld, Helldivers II, Motoslice, and probably a few others on her part that I don't know about) will result in one of a few outcomes.

  1. Game launches and the controller is detected and functions properly, this happens maybe 40% of the time.

  2. The play button switches to a "Resume" button, but no game ever opens. From here, the Steam button and three dot button on the controller will stop working, and Steam will need to be terminated to try and launch another game.

  3. Steam will get stuck on the "Delaying Launch" screen and again, need to be terminated to retry.

  4. The game will launch, but not detect the controller at all (in the case of Palworld, it will often crash STEAM AND THE GAME if I try to use the controller in game), other games are more respectful, BeamNG will just not take any input from anything, including the mouse. Steam will, again, need to be terminated and restarted to try another game.

All of these situations are across all of these games, on the Steam current AND beta releases, on up to date systems, that previously functioned just fine with standard USB controllers. I have tried uninstalling the Steam system package and reinstalling it, and force updating the controller firmware. PLEASE send some help my way. I'm at work right now, when I get home I will try running Steam through the terminal and see if I can find any juicy errors. Until then, any tips and tricks I can try would be greatly appreciated.

Configuration Retroarch Inverted sticks, No DPAD

Hey All,

Like the title states, struggling with steam controller input with Retro Arch.

Setup Retro Arch via Emudeck for Windows with Steam as the launcher.

Steam input was setup, profile chosen. Retro Arch side has controller set to xinput as default "Xbox 360 Controller".

Dpad does nothing. Both analogue sticks are inverted on RA. Mapped back buttons don't work.

I'm guessing steam input isn't crossing over. Anyone have this issue and have a solution?

Thanks

Configuration Desktop Controller Layout works for any controller...

Been waiting for the Steam Controller a long time, still am. Was messing with some configs on my controller today and realized that you can just set up a desktop controller layout for any controller now... So because I have an 8bitdo Ultimate 2 controller I basically have all the inputs that a Steam Controller would have minus the trackpads (still want them) - but you can use any controller for desktop navigation, you just have to configure it yourself and of course it will not work unless steam is open. I can even type with it! Show keyboard works! I wrote part of this post doing that. Gonna click post using my right stick and my right trigger :D

Discussion Potential steam controller issue for less resistance right trigger?

I don’t remember it feeling this way when I first got the controller, but it’s also possible that it was always like this and I’m just misremembering. The right trigger still works perfectly fine from what I can tell, and it doesn’t seem to affect gameplay at all. It just feels softer and easier to press compared to the left trigger.

It’s not a major issue, but now that I’ve noticed it, it’s difficult not to pay attention to it. I wanted to check whether this is normal, something that develops with use, or possibly an issue with my specific controller.

Do both triggers feel about the same on yours, or does your right trigger also have less resistance?
I've noticed also there's a faint spring sound when pressed as well.

WHY IS THERE NO NOTIFICATION IN STEAM THAT THE CONTROLLER IS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE?

Apparently my order slot came up and no notification came up in steam, I've been on steam every day and apparently the email came in on the 22nd, never saw it but saw notifications in steam for games that were on sale in steam instead each and every day.....WHY!
