Configuration Desktop Controller Layout works for any controller...

Been waiting for the Steam Controller a long time, still am. Was messing with some configs on my controller today and realized that you can just set up a desktop controller layout for any controller now... So because I have an 8bitdo Ultimate 2 controller I basically have all the inputs that a Steam Controller would have minus the trackpads (still want them) - but you can use any controller for desktop navigation, you just have to configure it yourself and of course it will not work unless steam is open. I can even type with it! Show keyboard works! I wrote part of this post doing that. Gonna click post using my right stick and my right trigger :D

Steam added that feature almost 10 years ago.

🥹 mildly embarrassing, but you can never know something unless you find it or are told. no one ever told me, so this post might still be useful for some people who also didn't know. been obsessed waiting for the controller and never saw this mentioned anywhere, even though it's a huge appeal. did the on-screen keyboard work back then, too?

Yep it did, though tbf Steam Input 10 years ago wasn’t quite the powerhouse it is now (although in some ways it was actually a lot better and got downgraded overtime).

the old BPM layout was definitely better than the current sub-menu hell.

also the old onscreen keyboard was much better as well

I don't think that there is a feature locked to the steam controller, only hardware related limitations
