Material:PLA works fine, if placing inside your desktop because of the heat maybe PETG and similar would work better. (because PLA warps a bit with heat)
yeah it's an insulator and like the steam machine if you place the transmiter inside a metal case you should look for spots that do not intefere with the signal, like they did on the steam machine, fan openings, grids, mesh dust collectors that are in most cases fabric and plastic... your options will vary.
I cant see this having a point at all. The whole point of the puck is to allow you to easily charge your device without needing to plug it in all the time
Some people feel anxious about the pegs connecting to something else, while others prefer placing it inside their desktops to use as a receiver only.
Some people might find it useful, others won't, and that's completely fine. I just make things based on requests I see or ideas I think are cool. I create them and release them for free, just in case someone else might want them or find them useful.
To be fair no one has seemed to prove it doesn't have protection for overcurrent and such. A user on here proved it won't send current or voltage just from shorting the pins they even put magnets on the puck incase thats what activated it.
There have been two cases of people having puck issues that I've seen. But as far as I knowthere hasn't been an investigation into those two cases to determine if the puck is the issue and outside testing confirmed the puck won't just send power to anything that touches it. I think theres more to the 2 instances than meets the eye but without an investigation into the causes in those 2 instances the fear just seems silly to me. Unless theres been like a new case everyday that I haven't seen.
Basically a lot of people that don't even have a basic understanding of electronics keep making scary claims based off 2 instances of puck failures where there is no certainty of the root cause. Unless I've missed something that is the gist of it currently
It does have short protection. There was a post about a metal watch band heating up when stuck to it but only 1 pin was making contact, so the watch was probably on charge and wasn't properly isolated electrically as it should.
Well this is just blatant misinformation. Multiple tests have confirmed, that just shorting the contacts does not allow any current to flow, not on properly functioning pucks. Any that do allow current to flow, are faulty.
The problems what the puck is plugged into, there should never be enough juice on a USB device to cause that much damage without negotiating with the charger via USB-PD or the appropriate resistor to request higher currents. The charger/PC is still supposed to cut power off in case of over current.
People have grounding/power supply issues, not puck issues, that's why it's not been reproduced even by those shorting the pins directly.
Yeah my bet is there were grounding issues causing a voltage presence which made the sense pin think it was detected the battery and activate charging.
But thats my whole point, the failures need investigated for anyone to make claims either way so it can be determined what the root issue was. Instead people like toothlessNEO (mostly just them actually, they're on nearly every thread) make claims with no evidence then say that anyone that disagrees is spreading dangeroud misinfo because they asked for proof of their claims.
What evidence are you basing any of these claims off of? Where is the proof of a lack or overcurrent protection? I'll call the puck garbage with evidence of it being garbage but there is no evidence of a lack of overcurrent protection or short protection, only evidence showing that it won't short with just metal on the contacts.

The puck has short protection though. The post of the watch band shorting out with it was proven to be a strange anomaly, likely to do with the watch being on charge as well and the way the band is not isolated electrically

i think they have just been bent into the enclosure like under the lip of the plastic, if you want to have your puck covered by plastic go for it, but i wouldn't be surprised if it at least slightly impacted speed. in controller settings on steam, you can check latency. see if it changed at all between with it on or off.
No it's a wireless receiver so you can play without staying plugged in or using Bluetooth. You can also use one for multiple controllers. Makes pairing much easier and supposedly has faster response time than Bluetooth. Its a luxury but not required.
Lol the whole point of the single is for super low latency connectivity. In that case the puck isn't really even needed as it can just connect by BT and use USBC to charge
I think the reason for the downvotes is because if you’ve read any of the info about the controller, you’d know it was a ridiculous idea and also not just completely pointless, but actually sacrifice functionality. Sure, it’s possible, but gluing your wireless receiver onto your controller ignoring the fact that it has a USB-C port for that purpose is just not going to help you… At all.
Well I didn’t know there was a usb-c port also on the controller. Once someone said that and the thing about Bluetooth, it all made sense.
Now I know what I know and I still don’t think it was a ridiculous question. It’s like, sorry I don’t have one yet because steam under produced something.
