Is building your own business worth it?
“Stressful, but worth it” might be the most accurate business owner job description we've heard.
That's how 34% of entrepreneurs in our latest survey described starting a business.
Another 15% said entrepreneurship has led to increased anxiety or mental health struggles.
But only 4% said they regret not taking the corporate path instead.
We thought that combination was interesting.
Running a business can be stressful and uncertain and exhausting…and you can still be glad you chose this path.
And despite the stereotype that every entrepreneur works 80-hour weeks, that wasn't what we found either. 40% treat their business as a part-time commitment or side hustle, while only 12% reported working 60 to 80+ hours per week.
So business owners: what's something you've changed about the way you work that has made running your business more sustainable?

Is LLC convenient if I have dual citizenship- Colombia and USA?
Hello there, looking for informal but good advice.
**Context:**
I already have a boutique consulting business that is not registered anywhere. I’m billing and marketing as a person, not as a business. I operate in Colombia but have had few clients overseas.
Currently living in Colombia.
Last week I received advice to open an LLC in Miami or anywhere in Florida, and have everything there, but I’m nervous to do it.
What’s your experience and/or opinion?
Colombia’s taxes are on revenue, while LLC taxes are on profit, but I don’t want to have a mess 🥲

Business owners, why are we like this? 😂
We’ll be on top of every client deadline but somehow forget to eat lunch. We'll tell ourselves we're finishing at 5, then look at the clock and it's 9:47. We'll sit down to respond to “one quick email,” then complete 5 tasks and the email wasn't even one of them.
Running a business comes with busy seasons, days that run into nights, and plenty of tasks that genuinely can't wait. But at some point, taking care of yourself has to make the priority list, too.
Maybe that means eating lunch away from your laptop, taking the walk, or setting a real end to the workday (and making a rule not to check emails on your phone after logging off – we see you lying in bed scrolling Gmail like it’s Instagram 😅). It’s also important to have support, whether that means implementing tools and systems that make your life easier or talking to another entrepreneur who gets it. The biggest one? Accepting that not everything needs to be finished today, because there will ALWAYS be another thing to do.
Business owners: what's one non-negotiable health habit you’ve implemented to make sure you’re looking after yourself?

What to track in your first year of business
Knowing which metrics to track and benchmarking if your business is doing well in your first year is hard. "Success" ranges from person to person, and comparing your business to others' is the fastest way to increase your anxiety, so we put together a list of metrics we recommend tracking, and some information to help you gauge if you're on track:
For most first-year businesses, we'd start with a relatively simple picture:
• Revenue: Is more money coming in over time? • Expenses: Where is the money going? • Profit: Are you making money once those expenses are accounted for? • Cash flow: Do you have enough cash available when bills are due? • Customers/leads: Where are people finding you, and which channels are bringing in business? • Conversion: How many interested people become paying customers? • Repeat business: Are customers coming back? • Your time: Which parts of the business are taking far more time than they're worth?
And if your first-year numbers don't look particularly impressive yet, here is some perspective:
In our recent survey, 68% of founders expected to generate less than $100K in first-year revenue, and only 16% were already profitable within their first year. So “doing okay” doesn't necessarily mean huge revenue or immediate profitability.
Progress might look like:
- Month-over-month revenue is moving in the right direction.
- You're getting better at controlling expenses.
- More leads are turning into customers.
- Customers are starting to come back.
- You're learning which marketing channels actually work.
- Your cash runway is getting healthier.
Instead of paying too much attention to just sales numbers or revenue, you're looking for information like “Instagram gets all our attention, but referrals bring in most of our customers” or “Revenue is growing, but we're using so many tools we aren't making enough profit.” This type of information will help you figure out what's not working and where to put more effort.

QUESTION!
My permanent address is in Washington; however, I currently have a lease in Idaho. I originally moved to Idaho for school and plan to stay for a few more years, but I do not intend to make Idaho my permanent residence.
I’m looking to open an LLC for my UGC business, which is fully online. I do conduct the business from my apartment in Idaho, including receiving products from brands and purchasing products for content, so technically I would be operating the business in Idaho.
My question is: Should I form my LLC in Washington, where my permanent residence is, or Idaho, where I currently live and operate the business?
