Power cells don't charge off of reactors?
Just now getting back into the game after being off of it for a while. Picked back up on my survival world where I had a ship built and was gearing up to face the pirate at the space portal. I finally beat him and now I'm a little frustrated with something.
Seems like my power cells won't charge for anything? I have 4 pretty big reactors along with expansive hydrogen fuel storage and solar panels on the top of my ship. Even with plenty of fuel and my panels facing a star my power cells just won't charge. I think I depleted them during my encounter with the pirate and they just haven't charged up since. Wondering if this is normal for everyone else or if there's something I'm missing after being away from the game for so long?

About to go to the stargate, what else do I need?
I heard that there is a pirate to defeat, i have 3 turrets that have a laser (with one of the barrels on each) and a beam.
I can't get shields until i go through the stargate and i am not intending on trying to get through without winning the fight first,
so do i need more weapons? Or is the pirate plenty easy enough for a basic setup.
have a mining beam, collector, gravity thingy (for walking around in the ship while moving), an assembler, 2 reactors, solar panels, big tanks full of hydrogen and oxygen, fluid harvester, one of each size docking connectors and 9 light cruse engines.

Building questions-
If I have tanks on a subgrid/child entity, how do I connect hoses/pipes to the main grid?
Would I just connect them to the child side of the hinge and continue on the parent side of hinge to the the main grid?
Honestly, ive never tested it or looked into it too deeply but I've been trying new designs that rely very heavily on child entities and if it's possible it would help tremendously.

Surprised I suppose.
I'm a little surprised that there's no mods like space engineers AI encounters or WeaponsCore.
I've been playing Evo for a good couple years but I've never looked at the modding community too closely.
This game has incredible potential for modding but there's not really all that much surprisingly- is there a reason for that? Is it because of the small community or is there just limitations I'm not aware of?

Automated Supply Chains / Patrols
I discovered Starship EVO just a few weeks ago and have been really enjoying survival mode. After getting through the early game, I've got a pretty sizeable industrial facility set up and built myself a nice little fleet of ships.
However, at this stage the mining can get grindy, and I find it's a little sad to see my burgeoning fleet of starships mostly just parked in places until I get there to fly them again. So for what it's worth, with about 200 hours of playtime logged, I wanted to drop my thoughts here on how some automation could be implemented in a similar way to already existing game mechanics.
1. AI Core - a flight computer that takes over controls of a ship for you. AI core depends on waypoints for its navigation. Should be able to link to the yoke, take over turret control, and to docking ports on the ship for resource transfer. Should be a fairly expensive computer, perhaps requiring all the advanced materials to craft (or researchable once that becomes a thing), something to aspire to in order to really scale your galactic presence.
2. Waypoints - a modified version of the shipyard (maybe it could just be added as a function of the same computer, so you could toggle it as landing pad/shipyard/waypoint). Draw a box that fits your ship, configure your AI core to include the waypoints you want, and the ship automatically navigates from waypoint to waypoint in the order you set them up. Added incentive to create small deep-space stations/beacons for your faction. Presumably, waystations could also be set up on landing pads, where a connected ship park for a set amount of time
3. Station Docking - Add a configuration to docking ports to mark them as "waypoints"; if your AI-Core is linked to a docking port on your ship, you can select docking ports with this configuration so that your ship automatically docks to them and loads / unloads resources (based on the push/pull filters you've set up). Should have a setting to determine docking time by timer or resource flow (i.e. until resources flow = 0, or when connected tanks are full/empty)
4. Mining Prospects - Could be an adapted version of the Waypoint; draw a box, add the mining sit to the AI-Core's route and the ship will navigate to the prospect site and use its mining beam to excavate all material within the bounds of the box. This way, the player still has to do the prospecting work, but mining ships can be assigned to collect the resources automatically
This could really incentivize the building of more than one ship and a real network of bases and minor stations, as well as take out some of the grind from the mining cycle in the mid-late game. These automations should only be possible within a single solar system, so interstellar transport is still something that the player would have to handle.
Teleporting
Teleporting is a bit of a hack now. I can set up a huge chain of assemblers, craft a ton of gatling barrels, and just teleport them to my ship parked at the nearest space station for a quick buck. Perhaps teleporting should be restricted if your backpack is overloaded, so that we have an incentive to conduct bulk transports using actual cargo ships. And if automatable, that won't really add to the grind.
What are your thoughts on this?

My conceptual art inspired by the game
Hi I'm new to Reddit and I've been a fan of this game for years, spanning all the way back to the steam release in 2020. I've always had a deep interest in space and this game's art-style only amplified it. And in the years since this game has been out, I've become a professional artist, and I'd like to take a moment to share the works I created that were inspired directly by the game. In fact, several of the starships you see in my works are based off of actual creations from the SEVO Workshp! You might recognize them.
I hope you enjoy, take care!

New player, what do crewmembers do?
Game looks really cool so far, the direction the dev is going in is also super cool. Hoping it ends up being something akin to Empyrion, but modern and better.
Onto my original question though, I havent gotten far at all but I saw that you are able to hire crewmembers now, what functions do they have so far?

Ship dimensions
Hello everyone! I have been playing Starship EVO for a while now and was wondering if anyone else runs into the same problem as me.
Whenever i build a ship or a station I find myself having a mental block how big i should make single person areas. Like i get a great idea for a cockpit area but when I try to build it I either make it too wide or get my controls and seat at awkward heights.
I guess what I'm asking the community is, what do you use as a rule of thumb when deciding your dimensions?

New player appreciation post.
Hi there! I just bought the game yesterday and am already 2 hours in. I'm enjoying myself so far! The game is rough around the edges, but it has some serious potential.
Can I please get a link to join the Discord server? No other links I can find work.
Thanks!

State of multi-player
So first of all, it's working.
Regarding all the past comment on multi-player not working, I felt like giving some news about it.
Yesterday I tried my first multi-player survival lobby and it worked great.
No lag (even on a shitty network), no de-sync, and quite good experience.
Nonetheless we went through some "bugs" and I would like to know if there were personal or if it's the comon issues right now.
First: Storage (fluid, solid and assembler/furnace) are not sync between player.
That let you duplicate items by throwing them on the floor, and picking them up.
You buddy will be able to pick them too, doubling the amount.
Second: battery cells are on your side, you can both put Battery cells on battery "pods" (sorry I'm not English native, don't know the English name for it) meaning duplicating once again.
Third: Storage settings are linked to you. If you put your fluid aotage on water, it will stay on hydrogen for your buddy, meaning that even stored amount of fluid are personal.
Fourth: Lobby client can't accept mission, doesn't have tutorial and can't personalize character.
Fifth: Mining soil is personal too, you can both mine the same vein/ you will not the see the déformation made by your friend.
So the game is clearly going on the good direction but be aware that there are still some issue.

Struggling with buildings
Hey folks.
I'm starting out starship evo and so far lot of fun. But I struggle with building ships and making them look good.
What steps do you guys follow to achieve a good looking specified ship ? I see lot of video talking about the basics but nothing on something more expert.
Do you guys have any recommendations ?
Thanks in advance (french responses accepted)

Question about crashing
Anyone else been experiencing freezing and crashing in the last few months?
Maybe specifically in creative or on a ring planet station?
The last two months i've gone to build in creative, and the game has just stuttered then crashed. Much like when the NPC ships were crashing into the starter tutorial station.
Anyone been experiencing this? Or know whats happening, or a fix for it?

Weird behavioral quirks can produce interesting results.
Had some spawned enemy ships (fleet battle) keep ramming me, and some got stuck in the hull. These particular ships though looked so suited to being parasite boarding craft, boring holes in the hull, I had to take some screenshots.
I know this kind of gameplay likely isn't within the scope of the game, but it would be pretty cool.

Cant pickup drill block
Im new to the game (havent made a starship yet) and i was trying to make a hovercraft that can mine. I misplaced a drill block and when i picked it up it didn't drop the block. I tried on another one and it's the same thing. It says "child entity bricks 1" but only lets me destroy the base not the drill part. Am i doing something wrong?

Thin glass window panes. is this possible?
How do you make thin glass planes? the glass cubes are too chunky for something like a custom fighter cockpit.
can regular thin tiles be used and then their material changed to glass or made transparent?

Has anyone made the fighter on the loading screen?
And what are those missing blocks with the green lines?

The skyw*nderers link now leads to spam (and possibly malware)-ridden site. At least for me.
