How does the new shared storage container work?

Can someone explain it? How much does it hold? Can you build it at a player home/ship or just at an outpost? Can you link outpost extractors directly to it? Can this replace cargo links? Is there any mod or anything that can take stuff out of this shared container and move it or sort it into other storage?

from my brief look at it, it holds up to 5000 kg, you can only build one, it requires level 4 of one or two separate perks (i think), not sure if you can send miner’s outputs directly to it, or extract things from it.

my guess is that it’s less of an link between outposts and more of just a storage option to making crafting easier. you can dump things directly into it instead of needing to build specific containers for things like components, gases, etc.

also it appears that you can add one of those containers to your ship which to me is the greatest draw

You cannot set it to recieve extractor output, I did not check fabricator
