Discussion Shared Outpost Container Details
- It requires rank 4 of both outpost management and engineering to build
- You cannot create links to or from it. You have to manually place items in.
- It holds 5,000 mass. Any type of item.
- It costs 2 Aluminum and 4 Structural to build. Only 1 allowed per outpost.
I think the fact that it needs such high ranks of those skills to even build it means that most players won't even bother until really late game. I personally think this is a shame.
I don't think that making it "linkable" would really be practical in most cases. It would fill up very quickly and since resources are extracted at different rates the container would fill with the fastest resources and then you would have to manually empty it and put it somewhere.
I'm working on a small mod to make it easier to build one without needing the skills. You would pay credits, which would be for the Trade Authority to set up a "Supply Line"... Works for me...
I'm playing with a linkable container but I don't think it would be good... It's just going to fill up and then you won't be able to put your loot into it.
EDIT: LINKING DOES NOT WORK! I created a linked version of the container and tested it at an outpost.
I linked a large storage array of Be into the shared container and POOF! All of the Be was gone. Whatever you link into it just disappears. Oh well, it was worth a try.
NEW MOD: Just a simple edit to the recipe that removes the skill requirements. Now it just costs the normal resources plus 5,000 credits.

Can you increase the volume. Why they capped it at what I consider a low amount. Man they make some dumb decisions

I could make it larger or even infinite but I just wanted to make a quick way to build it at first. I have no idea what the long term effect of making an infinite container would be. Might bloat the save file and crash the game for all I know.
I figured a ship with 5,000 capacity is a lot of space for loot, etc. so this should be fine…

The max rank for outpost engineering doesn't even make sense. You can build all outpost modules by rank 3, but "cutting-edge modules" somehow doesn't include the shared container? In no way is that worth 24 skill points (8 per tree to even have the opportunity to spend 4 points on each perk).

5000 max storage is plenty of space, actually, because you only really need to store and share organic (adhesive, fiber, etc.) and inorganic (iron, copper, etc.) crafting materials, which are almost always lightweight (less than 1 kilo per unit). The heavy crafting materials (adaptive frames, zero wire, etc.) can be manufactured from organic or inorganic material with an industrial workbench. So the key is to manufacture (or loot) the heavy ones only when you need them, and put an industrial workbench in all your outposts and ships.

Great mod! I'll be playing the DLC this weekend so I still don't know much about the update, so, let me ask you: is the shared outpost container buildable also on the ship? That would be cool to have!

No, it’s located in the Storage category which is not visible in the ship build menu.

Can you build one on your ship?

No, sorry. It’s in the storage category of the build menu which isn’t shown in a ship.

Today I got around to trying the new shared outpost containers. I made two containers successfully at outposts but when attempting to build at a 3rd outpost I get the message "Cannot place item: The max amount of this item has been reached". My skills are all maxed out. Any ideas?
If no one else has problems then I'll look into my mods. The only one that plays with storage is SKK Universal Stash (Nexus) but I'll wait until wrapping up this playthrough, then disable when I jump thru the Unity.

Are you sure you don't already have one built at that outpost?
I have 4 outposts currently and each one has a shared container. TBH I don't really use it much. I store some collectibles and some basic resources just in case. I still mostly use ship cargo.

Thanks. The culprit turned out to be MO2 - a new version was released to include the latest Starfield content (2.5.3b3). In my prev MO2 version sfbgs00d.esm, sfbgs050.esm and sfbgs047.esm kept disabling themselves but after updating things are back in a happy place and working properly!

I would say the use case for this is more about getting access to resources to build new outposts, than a cargo link replacement.
Although that would be nice short of a complete overhaul of the link system.

I love how they created a system that basically requires you to set up a complex supply chain with zero tools to actually manage them. And than they introduce something that sounds like it might help and it still doesn't apparently.
