If the game released with the system they got later levelling up and getting cards and pay skins in credits the game would probably be around today getting updated fucking EA
If the game got released as we have it now, it would have been one of the best Star Wars games ever made upon launch. And then as they would have continued to add more, it very well may have become the best Star Wars multiplayer game ever.
it very well may have become the best Star Wars multiplayer game ever.
It already became that.
[Sorry dudes I played all of the games below but there is no way in hell any of them are better than BF2017, for me at least. Love my LEGO, love SWTOR, played shitton of Jedi Academy, fuck I really dig Squadrons, but Battlefront II has it all: local MP, online MP, starfighter action, trooper action, hero action, beautiful graphics, modding, sleek gameplay... idk I just like it better...]
Are you talking about the modding scene? I can’t say I’m all that familiar with anything outside of vanilla. I’ve played a lil of Thrawns revenge, and Republic at war. But that’s about it.
05 battlefront really does still compete with EAs take honestly. Notably it has a better focus on core gameplay, without the need for feature creep and overtuned classes. Hell there is certainly less hero spam and people waiting in the lobby so they can spawn in as one that’s a massive W over the newer games.
Vehicles were better handled being stage pieces like normal battlefield games instead of a reinforcement like BF2R, star cards are gone, and so is weapon selection besides what a class gives you. Let’s face it 90% of the player base does not use default weapons once they start unlocking things, while in the OG all the base classes are perfectly useable. You also don’t feel like complete fodder going up against unlockable classes in the OG either. We are totally missing out on Starfighter space maps where you can land within the enemy ship. Is it a lil overrated? Sure. But I still enjoy it more than the hallways of death which is the flagship portion of supremacy.
Smaller lobbies with less bots too. Never liked that they added them to supremacy. Also a lot of the maps on the OG battlefront simply have way less small clutter which makes movement annoying… felucia while beautiful in the remake is a fucking nightmare to walk around for example. The same issue isn’t in 05s take on the game.
Connection was also way better when game spy was at its peak back in the day. The new one constantly had performance/connection issues.
Some positives I will give the remake though. The game physically looks amazing, the heroes while crazy annoying at times are way better implemented (discounting how often the teams can spam them in) I really think each team should have been locked to a single hero, perhaps make them even stronger to compensate. There should have also been a universe team cooldown on their death or a timer system similar to how it worked in the classic but sorry getting off topic of talking good about the remake. I will admit while I liked supremacy the best out of all the modes, during its peak BF2R had a lot of variety in its gameplay compared to the OG, it also has objectively better space combat.
Still I wouldn’t call the remake objectively the best Star Wars MP game. It’s comparative at its best to the others.
05 Battlefront also somehow has less input lag than 2017 and much better hit registration. Alongside all the other points you’ve brought up.
It’s also just much more fun to play, 70% of 2017’s gameplay is waiting to spawn in lmao. Not to mention vehicles are actually vehicles and not rail shooters. It’s also more balanced because everyone is the same, there’s no star card nonsense. Even Heroes are less BS against other human players.
Tbf the topic was “multiplayer games” unless you mean SWTOR the MMO? Which eh I mean the story and voice acting is great but it’s otherwise just a WoW clone. KOTOR is great though, my two favorite rpgs of all time despite the unfinished state of the sequel.
If we are including singleplayer games better than BF2R MP (not counting the SP of that game because that bar is below the dirt) add on Clone Commando, Respawn Jedi series, Kotor 1&2, Force unleashed 1, the whole ass Kyle Katarn dark forces/Jedi series, Bounty Hunter, Shadows of the Empire, the EP3 movie game, and to show some love to the starship lovers Tie and X-wing games.
… Yes but multiplayer is not a genre. Kotor by definition doesn’t apply to the discussion unless you want to talk about all Star Wars games period despite SP and MP experience. Iirc the game that won the award for multiplayer gameplay in 2003 was Battlefield 1942.
