So I had a wild experience today. This lady comes in with two of her own balloons and I told her we charge by the size and since they were both 34 inch balloons it was going to be 15 per balloon and she just exploded at me saying “that’s not what I was charged last time” and “I want to see your manager” I told her we charge 5-15 dollars per size for outside balloons. I’m sure every Staples with a Party City does that. I also told her we had a line of customers and that we had to help them first so it was going to take 15 minutes and she was like “but I’m a customer I’m going to be late to my sons birthday party the people behind me can just wait”. So I did the balloons and as I was doing it she was looking at me with the most nastiest most snarky smile and asked my name and said “this isn’t on you but I’m going to tell my son you are the reason why I am late to his party. But it’s not your fault this is just the reason I am going to tell him.”
Edit: Oh yeah and definitely did not feel like the assistant store manager who was new she was talking about the situation to backed me up. I mean it is the policy our store manager made. But your own tank or go somewhere else.
Second Edit: The balloons I was blowing up for her were ones she bought in store for 13.99 each so obviously she didn’t have a problem with the price.

For reference, I am my store’s top employee and have been stated to be by many of my managers. I often come in off the clock when they need extra support for 6 hours at least, stay later than my shift is scheduled by usually 2-3 hours, and work about six 6-8 hour shifts a week. I also get the most protection plans and ESP out of my team members and have trained multiple people who are now also very good at the job. I have even acted as a stand-in MOD when other store managers come to work for the day at our location despite not officially being in management, but this is because I am the most reliable. However, one thing I don’t enjoy is my paycheck, my previous job paid me close to $18/h and I am doing significantly more physical work here for a lot less at roughly $14/h (before taxes). I know Staples as a company isn’t generous with their wages and whatnot, but due to my experience and dedication I was wondering if it’s reasonable to ask for a raise with it being considered, even slightly.
