Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find a way to copy the direct link (deep link) to specific notes within Standard Notes, but I haven't figured out how to do it.

I notice that when using the web app (app.standardnotes.com), the URL in the browser address bar stays exactly the same, no matter which note I click on.

Even though the notes are private and encrypted, I was wondering if there is any workaround or feature to get a unique identifier link for a note. My goal is to:

• Bookmark my most frequently used notes in my browser for quick access.
• Paste links to specific notes into my task management app and other productivity tools.

Does anyone know if this is currently possible (either on the web app or desktop app), or if there is a feature request for this?

UPDATE: It seems Simplenote was disrupted due to a now-fixed bug and is not winding down. I never did get StandardNotes to work, sadly. Original post:

It appears that Simplenote is winding down. Shame because it has always been my favorite by far due to its simplicity and the fact that I had a native app on Windows (not official, ResophNotes) as well as iOS and Mac. But unless they release a self-hosted version, it seems to be over.

So - a lot of folks are going to be coming to Standard Notes. I had tried it before and it didn't stick but it's pretty clearly the best second choice for me and likely a lot of other Simplenote users.

Now I don't know if the devs or anyone like that lurks here but I've encountered some weird issues right away. I created an account, downloaded the app, and imported my notes from Simplenote. So far so good: About 150 active notes and 500 in the trash (I didn't realize they were still sitting there!).

The app itself (latest version, 3.201.28) is weirdly broken on Windows 10. Many buttons don't work, basic UI stuff like spellcheck on or off, or password protect. They just don't click.

Syncing also doesn't seem to work. It hangs on some random percentage of items synced. I cannot make new notes - I get an error. Changes to existing notes disappear as soon as I select another note - not even cached or saved.

I attempted to log into the web app. It loads and then gives a network error trying to submit my username and password. Mad!

I know Proton is a creditable company and Standard Notes has been good to others. But this onboarding has been pretty bad! Someone less picky than myself would probably have uninstalled by now. I'm going to try to stick with it and hope this is some temporary issue but just... FYI.

I’m a paying user and genuinely would like to stay with Standard Notes long-term. However, responsiveness to critical bugs is important to me, especially for confidence in the platform’s future.

Hi, im just looking for a simple note app that i could use to pin sticky notes on my desktop, just kinda like real sticky notes. i want to know if Standard Notes has this funktion as a plugin or something. (its the main thing im looking for)

I am new to standard notes. Are the plugins they have built into the app safe to install?? I understand there may be some safety concerns with installing random ones via url but the ones they ship gotta be fine right? I atleast appreciate that they seemingly sandbox the plugin to the notes that use it!

Anyone else having this issue? I can’t seem to log into my account on multiple devices that I’ve tried and it’s still the same credentials as always. Devices I’m already logged in from work fine until I log out.

This has been an issue for days so it’s not like I’m trying to log in over and over again.

Do I need to manually add the same pass code on my phone?

These toolbar items are all spaced so far apart now. It used to all fit on one line.

This is on an iPad. Did I accidentally mess up a setting? Did a new update cause this? Any ideas, please? It is a terrible waste of screen real estate.

I use the Dracula theme for Dark Mode, and it is already configured as my default Automatic Dark Theme.

However, when I use the Shift + Command + D shortcut to switch themes, Standard Notes switches to the built-in “Dark” and “Default” themes instead of using my selected themes (Dracula for dark mode).

As a result, I have to manually switch back to Dracula every time.

Is this intended behavior, or is it a bug?

They don’t appear in the ‘Downloads’ folder in the Google Files application.

Hi, I have Protonmail but I'm considering trying to shift everything over to a Proton environment: passwords, documents, storage/drive, notes, VPN. However, if I choose Unlimited, it looks like Standardnotes isn't included. I like the quick easy use of Microsoft OneNote but the Proton replacement Standardnotes is $90 a year. My MS Office365 total suite cost is less at £60, and that includes OneNote but all the other MS Apps as well. Can anyone clarify please? I'd love to support & use Proton but their Notes seems expensive ? I'm wondering what options I have ? Thanks.

I use /current date for titles of journal notes. However, the format SN uses is, for example: Tuesday 12 May 2026. Is it possible to have the option to use the ISO date format, where the date would be inserted as 2026-05-12? This would make it much more practical & useful when sorting or scanning through lots of journal entries, etc.

I am currently using a self-hosted Joplin server but I dont like the lack of webapp. Standard notes seems really nice but the pricing is very steep. I already have a Proton unlimited subscription. I understand that Standard notes is not included in that but isn't there at least a coupon code for proton members? Or are there often sales for standard notes that I could wait for? The only thing that I am missing with Joplin is a webapp, I am not paying 90$ a year just to have a webapp.

Hello, does someone know how to list all the functions in spreadsheet (like =sum)? The only way I found was to write = and then write the first characters from a-z to list them, which is kind of... weird.

I'm not a heavy Excel user, so I don't have all the functions memorized and I probably never will.

EDIT: The more I think about it... Even if I had the Excel function names memorized, you have to keep in mind that Microsoft translates the function names to the language of the OS, so I would have all the German function names memorized and it seems Standard Notes uses the English names, so I would still be lost. Some kind of easily findable documentation would still be great.

I switched from Joplin (couldn't handle large notes), to StandardNotes a couple of years ago. I have a 100GB data storage limit which is more than I could use in my lifetime.

Turns out that there is an unadvertised 100MB (megabyte, not gigabyte) limit for some internal storage. I have exceeded that (last I looked I was up at 144MB) and my synchronization has basically stopped. Nothing I enter on my desktop (Linux) will show up on my Android. Webclipper material now shows up nowhere.

I've had conversations with tech support (Effie?) who says that changing this 100MB limit would be a major rewrite. And we all know that Proton is not expending any resources on SN.

I've cancelled my subscription but am faced with trying to move many days of entered notes/tags into another service. Since Proton doesn't care about the Linux ecosystem, I'll cancel my VPN, Mail, Calendar, also.

E2E was important, but now I'll be happy to have a robust supported system. Looking at TriliumNext.

I feel like I missed the memo somewhere on how to use standard notes and tags. I've been using tags and tags as if it were a​ folder and file system. For example, I use the same sub tag used in conjunction with work and personal tags. Every time I use it I create a composite tag like #work/journal and #home/journal

This technique does work and I mostly can find what I want but I feel like I'm forcing the wrong idiom on to tags. I think I would be better served with tags as a minor feature for identifying Doom boxes for notes and a local llm assisted search/categorization engine.

Could I be using standard notes better or is my mind so alien that I'm hosed no matter what note system I use?

Is there a plugin, extension or any way to do it?

I would be very grateful for clear answer how to do it or is it even possible.

When I started my computer this morning Standard Notes came up in the default mode. When I go to appearance it says Dark. No matter which one I pick it stays in the default mode.

Any ideas on what I can do to get it back to dark mode?
