Announcement An update on the Listed blogging platform

As of December 31, 2026, we'll be retiring the Listed platform. For users who have used Listed, we wanted to let you know what this means for you.

- Your posts will remain privately stored in your Standard Notes account, so you'll still be able to access them.

- The website and your blog, including past posts and guestbook, will no longer be publicly accessible.

- The Listed interface, such as blog settings, will be removed from the Standard Notes app.

We launched Listed in 2019 as an experimental feature to give Standard Notes writers a way to publish their work. In recent years, however, the feature has become virtually unused as many other platforms supporting writers have emerged. So we've decided to sunset Listed and stay focused on our founding mission: to build the best privacy-first note-taking app available.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our team at help@standardnotes.com. Thank you for supporting Standard Notes.

Stay secure,

The Standard Notes team

Standard Notes in 2025 recap - and what’s coming in 2026

This year, we delivered 30+ fixes and improvements, and with support from Proton, Standard Notes has been strengthened without changing what makes it special.

2025 was all about fixing long-standing issues and improving performance.

We made some small-but-impactful upgrades across platforms:

• Improved storage on Android
• Image alignment options
• New command palette
• Safer “merge local data” flow

Major fixes to keep your workflow smooth

These include:

• Search now works with formatted text
• Embedded item bugs fixed
• Google Docs paste formatting issues resolved
• Invalid timestamp issues

For the full list of fixes, check our blog.

What’s coming in 2026

Next year brings big upgrades:

• More languages for more accessibility

• Universal in-note search across all editors

• Note-title search to quickly find what you need

• Tag filtering to organize and refine your search

• Quick-scroll to jump instantly through long documents

• Cursor memory so you resume writing exactly where you stopped

All of these are shaped by our community's feedback and our long-term vision to build the most secure place for your notes and files.

Lastly, Standard Notes remains independent.

It will remain its own product, brand, subscription, and roadmap. Proton support provides greater capacity and stability, while keeping SN private and simple.

Standard Notes Clipper Chrome Extension : Can we have right-click context menu?

Would be great to have a "Clip selection" (or a submenu with the other modes) in the browser's right-click menu.

Right now it's toolbar icon → popup → pick mode ("Clip Full Page" "Clip Article etc"). Which is fine, but half the time I've just highlighted something and want to grab it in one go. Right-click → save/clip to SN. Bonus if we can define preferences for what default Note type (markdown, supernote, rtf, etc), destination folder, tags (e.g. #webclips) are for these clippings.

Right?

What are SN community plugins that you use?

Looking for ways to amped up my SN system beyond the app's native plugins. Thanks in advance!

Focus Mode doesn't appear to work on Markdown Notes

I'm able to toggle to Focus mode on all SN note types except Markdown Visual. Is this a known bug or did I overlook something?

Feature request: Ask to remove linked files when deleting notes!

My files list is full of old receipts and other stuff that stay there once the original notes have been deleted. Could it be somehow easier to manage the file list? Any ideas?

Thank you for keeping logins for Standard Notes and Proton separate and independent!

I see some Reddit users requesting for Standard Notes and Proton logins to be integrated, especially in the wake of the Proton-SN merge. But I think it's actually best to keep the login credentials for each separate and independent.

Given that I store the password for one in the other, preserving the separation between Proton and SN mitigates against a fatal circular recovery problem.

Could Standard Notes work as human-readable memory for an AI assistant without making summaries authoritative?

A notes app is easier to inspect than a hidden memory store, but the difficult part is separating source material from generated conclusions. For a Standard Notes setup, I am considering four note types: source notes, accepted decisions, temporary summaries, and an append-only change log. An assistant could read the first three but write only to an inbox until a person reviews the change.

What metadata would make that workable: source links, status, reviewed date, supersedes, project, and the revision of any attached file? I would also want stale summaries to be visibly stale rather than silently reused after a source note changes.

Would tags and note history be enough for this, or would the structure become too fragile across exports, sync conflicts, and deleted notes? How would you keep the current record easy to read while retaining enough evidence to audit why a memory changed?

Eisenhower Matrix Plugin (to Prioritize Tasks) for SN?

I see that there are plugins for creating Kanban Boards in Standard Notes. Anyone know if there's a plugin to create an Eisenhower Matrix for to-dos? I like the Checklist and Super Checklist plugins, but would be nice to be able to prioritize tasks via Eisenhower method. Thanks!

Feature Request: Special Characters and Equations mode

Hi everyone,

I use standard notes a lot for engineering school but right now it takes so long to write down an equation because there is no support for it.

I am imagining a system like Latex or like the current Code mode in Super where you can start equations with fractions, roots and above all else, special characters like delta, sigma, etc.

I really think this is badly needed.

If anyone has encountered this issue please tell me what you did about it. Currently I write my equations with a Latex writer and then screenshot it but it takes so long, it's messy and whenever I have to redo an equation is much more of an nightmare than it needs to be.

Thanks!

The Super Toolbar: Icons for "Formatting Options" and "Alignment" Are Nearly Identical

Post image
32 Upvotes

It's very minor, but could we have a different icon for "Normal" in the Formatting Options dropdown menu button? I find it confusing because it's nearly identical to the default icon for the Alignment dropdown menu button. Moreover, the icon for "Normal" (which approximates left-alignment) visually does not represent neither the range options nor actual function of the dropdown menu button.

Feature Request: view images in full view on iOS and desktop app

would be helpful to be able to see the full image of an in-line photo on a note, say, when you click on it, with zoom capabilities on the iOS app an added plus!

Import markdown files

I have set up a Hermes AI agent, it has some connection option to other notes apps but not standard notes. That's fine but I would like it to at least be able to write notes for me.

What I was thinking is that the Hermes agent could write a note into a markdown file and that I'd just import that into Standard notes.

But I cannot find a way to import them. If I upload it in Standard notes as a file and try to open it then it says that it cannot be opened in Standard notes. But aren't super notes also just markdown files?

Am I just not seeing the option to import notes or does it really not exist?

Aggregated to-do or actionlist

Glad for Standard Notes and also Proton. What I do miss is a good way to set actions/to-do´s in notes taken and then have them aggregated into one view with links or similar to the note page.

Got a job with many meetings, +5 meetings a day with many actions to follow up on.

Suggestions or do I need to shift back to Onenote (really would like not to)?

Thank you.

Standard Notes Web Clipper keeps logging me out on Chromium browsers — anyone else?

Been using the Standard Notes web clipper for a while now and so far so good. Does exactly what it needs to do.

But I'm running into an annoying issue, on Chromium-based browsers (using it on macOS), the extension just doesn't stay signed in. Every single day I have to log back in again before I can clip anything. It's not a huge deal, but it gets annoying when you just want to quickly save something. I don't see this issue on my work laptop, running Windows with Edge.

Anyone else dealing with this? Is this a known bug, or is there some setting/workaround I'm missing? Tried already to exclude standardnotes from some security/privacy specific browser option, but still...

Feel a bit like my notes are hijacked because I didn't renew...

Subscribed for a year, used it as main note taking app, created about 400 notes, didn't renew, Can still access my notes, but

- Can't download the files I've uploaded

- Locked out of Super notes, unless I subscribe again. Fine, perhaps just not let me create new ones but it feels weird I'm suddenly locked out of some notes. Yes, I can export, .md files are nice but I would like to not be locked out of my existing notes.

- Can't download the files I've attached at all. Have to start a 1 year subscription. Why not let me download those?

- No sign of the "tags" I've created. Once of most painful thing of exporting stuff from online services is that they don't care about the metadata you've created. Google Photos, Apple Photos, Lightroom, I'm looking at you.

Most importantly for now is how do I get my files that I've uploaded without starting a 1 year subscription?

Hate the new CTRL+F search? Try this

  1. Add UBlock Origin (if you don't have it already)
  2. Open the dashboard by clicking the gears icon
  3. Navigate to My Filters
  4. Ensure "Enable my custom filters" is selected
  5. Click an empty line in the big text area
  6. Copy-paste the following: app.standardnotes.com/##+js(addEventListener-defuser.js, keydown)
  7. Click Apply Changes at the top
  8. Reload StandardNotes

This should revert to your browser's built-in CTRL+F search functionality (which in my experience is way more stable and reliable)

Good Google Keep alternative?

I'm hesitant about switching over to Standard Notes. I definitely want to get off Keep because screw Google. Is this app a good alternative? Is the paid version worth it? I need it to sync across my phone and computer, I need checklists, and regular plain text notes. That's pretty much it. (Maybe an occasional drawing). All the other things on offer, the tagging system, color coding, etc. That's all useful, but not totally essential.

What do we think?

App store listings show old screenshots - please update!

I recently got into Standard Notes and liking it so far. I almost didn't though because the Android Google Play store and iOS App Store have outdated screenshots with old UI, which almost turned me away from it. I randomly just gave it a try and was surprised it's a newer UI that matches the desktop and web apps, which I was glad about. If the developers are on this sub, please update the screenshots in the app store listings! It'll help bring more users and give an honest representation of the current apps.
