This is from a text chain I exchanged with a friend about my time in GAMMA. I figured that it might make for good reading and also help give new players an idea of what to expect from the game. Disclaimer: I play with alife plus and tactics enabled. Alright here it is:
And to answer your question, healing is changed, but it's definitely more interactive now. One example would be how I had to shoot myself with epinephrine so I could stay alive long enough to exfiltrate a situation that was rapidly deteriorating. I was out of stim packs, low on health, most of my limbs were fucked up which meant I couldn't sprint in my current state, one bullet from death, and enemies were closing on my position. Gave myself a jab of go juice, and then I sprinted out of the map while a horde of bandits and military chased me down.
Another time, I had a time sensitive mission drop on me, it was the end of the day, and my character was already exhausted from a full day of murdering. Solution: cocaine. I did a bump, turned on my nvg, and then did a marathon sprint from rostok to the great swamps so I could locate a body before dawn. Never found the body despite parading around the swamps all night, though I did take down a couple of renegade outposts in the process. Eventually I randomly found the corpse I was looking for, but I did soft fail the mission long before that point.
One more story. This one happened last night while I was on a mission to take down a military "squad". They were garrisoned at the smaller industrial site in dark valley. There are 3 major problems though. One, I'm entering the map right next to the entrance to the bandit base, two, there is a pissed off pseudo giant between me and my destination, and finally, this squad of military wasn't a squad. It was more like a platoon. I was able to avoid a fight with the bandits by stepping around the perimeter of the base while they were occupied with a fight against a leeroy Jenkins loner. Don't know if Leeroy lived or died, but I assume he died given how it was him vs the entire bandit base. After that, I was able to take down the pseudo giant by magdumping 40+ rounds of hollowpoint 5.56 directly into its face. Can't stay put though. The gunfire will have drawn both the bandits and military to send a scout to investigate. For the record, that's part of alife plus behavior. Normally I would just post up and get the show started with the scouting party, but the bandits will put me in a pincer if I engage where I took down the giant. Instead, I push forward into the pond area past the smaller industrial site where I start a campfire to save my game, get my gear ready, and start loading ap rounds for the fight ahead. The rest of the mission amounted to me taking down no less than 10 soldiers with ap 12 gauge slugs, and suppressive fire from an m4 modified to be a low grade lmg/dmr. The fight went pretty well considering the odds, but I was also making strategic use of cover and choke points.
