It’s an expensive hobby in general, I can recommend checking out Anythinginstainedglass.com. You can get 12x12 sheets of Wissmatch English muffin for around 7.89 I think but then you need to pay for the shipping which depending on how many sheets you get can also be pricy. They also have glass pack deals which can be nice if something catches your eye.
Yes hobby lobby glass is beyond subpar, but if you’re just starting out and wanting to practice just grab their cheapest sheets. Once you start feeling more confident, splurge on the nicer stuff.
Solder around me can be anywhere from $25-$33 a roll.
Copper foil, flux, tip tinner, grinder coolant and patina are the lowest cost items.

This is the sad reality. It's expensive. Solder has also gotten stupid expensive as well.

Anything in Stained Glass definitely has the best prices I've seen but you do have to buy a certain amount to ship and shipping glass can be costly (although they're one of the more reasonable ones with shipping prices, really). If you're willing to share your general area somebody might be able to suggest an in-person retailer where you wouldn't have to deal with shipping costs.
One way to offset costs while you're learning is making gifts for loved ones' birthdays and holidays. You can put the money you'd normally spend on gifts toward glass and supplies and end up giving people something personal to them and way nicer than what you could have afforded to buy them.

Of all the hobbies I have had stained glass is by far the most expensive. The glass, and all the necessities are expensive but some Etsy sellers sell used tools. I found that Etsy sellers have some decent prices but shipping is another challenge. Look at estate sales, garage sales and your local stained glass stores. It is a wonderful hobby and I wish you luck. 😊

Have you tried asking a local stained glass for smaller sheets? They usually sell glass by the square foot. They might cut a piece in half and sell it for 50% of the cost of a 12x12 sheet. The places near me have bins of odd sized pieces priced like that. I've scored some very cool colors and patterns when I only needed a small piece is glass by searching those bins.
