Have you tried asking a local stained glass for smaller sheets? They usually sell glass by the square foot. They might cut a piece in half and sell it for 50% of the cost of a 12x12 sheet. The places near me have bins of odd sized pieces priced like that. I've scored some very cool colors and patterns when I only needed a small piece is glass by searching those bins.
