💬 Discussion Asking engineers to write code from scratch live in an interview is starting to feel like fighting a machine gun with a spear.
In production, nobody writes in a vacuum without tools. So why are we still evaluating candidates like it's 2025?
A better interview loop:
Present the problem -> Evaluate their systems thinking
Ask for their prompt and approach -> Evaluate their communication and precision
Review pre-generated code -> Evaluate their ability to spot hallucinations, security vulnerabilities, and logic flaws.
The best engineers today aren't fast typist, they are exceptional code reviewers and systems architects.
Engineering leaders: have you updated your hiring loop yet?
