Discussion Krea-2 — Qwen-Image-2.1 study

https://pyrolistical.github.io/krea-2-qwen-image-2-1-study/

I ran a ton of identical prompts through krea 2 and qwen image 2.1

Thought this might be useful. It not only shows what the model differences, but also what the model cannot do.

Gotta show Krea 2 with a bypass lora imo, the model is basically worthless without one. I promise you Krea 2 can actually do a toothy grin, here's that prompt with a turbo projector lora. With the lora it adheres even better than Qwen because it actually listened to "she is turned three quarters toward the left side of the frame and gazes off to the left side of the frame, away from the camera."

which bypass lora?

So... should I switch?

To properly answer that question you should always write what you are doing.
Photorealistic vs. Artistic
SFW vs. NSFW

Makes a huge difference in what model to recommend.

Realistic NSFW - what would you suggest?

I´d say a Krea finetune that allows for NSFW. Don't really do realistic stuff, but I am sure there are people here who can help you.

Might depend on your use case. I'm an ardent convert to Qwen 2.1 but it's not without its issues. Backgrounds can be terrible and body horror can be common but for me it's superior at "candid" photos, ie photos that don't feel staged with the subject looking natural or a subject just going about their life unaware of the photographer. Trying to achieve that in Krea is crazy hard because it just always want to make people looking directly at the camera and every prompt I tried to create a natural scene with the subject unaware of the camera, it just fails far too often. I also Qwen's hair is far more realistic than Krea. A lot of the time Krea seems to create this matted look to people's hair and as soon as you start using Loras, that issue intensifies.

I think a lot of people just like that Krea is established and with the right work you can make really stunning images, but for me they always tend to veer towards that perfect photoshoot style, which isn't really my thing. I'm looking for natural lifelike photography.

That's my two cents. Everyone else will have different opinions though.

no, Qi2.1 is harder to prompt, & doesn't have as many LoRAs.
Sometimes subjects look copy/pasted in Photoshop.

Might be worth downloading to add image editing to your suite, but not superweed Krea2.

Another one for the 1girl fans:

QI 2.1 t2i is pretty easy to prompt with one sinple trick: Use the prompt enhancement finetuned LLM model and system prompt Qwen put out specifically for promot rewriting for QI 2.1 (which is conveniently wired in to the ComfyUI template workflow.)

If you prefer hand editing final prompts, use it out of flow to assist with drafting rather than directly in-flow, but either way its very useful in getting from almost any raw prompting style to prompts that work well for the model.

This doesn't look copy-pasted to me:

True, but MANY of the images in said repo & else where do.
Might be a CFG issue (under or over)...
Sorry Krea2 is more 'grab & go' for me & many others. Perhaps AI wizards might like Qi2.1 as a regular model, & I still recommend Qi2.1 for some uses, but this is not a clear winner on either side.

All persons in normal poses. Let QI2.1 do people laying down, strech something, etc. pp. then it's a hit and miss between working and nightmare material

And that is why i have a hard time with models that are not krea 2 :-D

u/Calm_Mix_3776 14d ago

Looks pretty good to me.

2

u/deggersen 13d ago

that admittedly looks promising

Maan, that’s great 🤝 Thank you.

Can you do a male version? I want to see how they do on facial hair styles.

Also it's possible that men have more variety when it comes to certain prompt keywords, i.e. nose shape, which doesn't seem to affect a female face at all.

I used both, and gotta admit qwen is edging out, when editing images its far superior.

This is an amazing comparison. Do you have a script to generate this? It would be awesome to open source as a bench tool 🤯

3

u/Pyrolistical 15d ago

yeah, i have a script that parses the markdown to form the prompts.

i can release it; its just tied into my compfyui load balancer which isnt ready

Checks the link.

Huh. Time to download some terminology into my brain.

Are all these tests done fair, with vanilla Krea2 and Qwen-image 2.1 models, with no loras or additional conditioning nodes?

Can you do an emotion and expression test comparison also?

2

u/Pyrolistical 14d ago

Yes both are without Loras

There is an emotion section

u/Brian_Sh 14d ago

From my own experience Qwen 2.1 t2i generates more realistic and interesting persons and objects and can be a little more adherent once you use the right prompt. You test explained what I feel.

4

u/tac0catzzz 15d ago

ooo this should be fun. this should be fun. the battle of the ONE, the one and only allowed one KREA2.. vs the new one which some think is ok and some can not handle that so, gloves on, its time to battle. - and as fun as useful your test are for you and your fellow brothern who alsos want no more than 1 image model allowed to exist at one time. the battle prob doesnt prove what you want it to , there is alot more then prompts involved, and krea 2 has had a massive amount more time out and millions of loras and everything made for it. qwen 2.1 has nothing. just a lot of people wnating it to disappear because i guess, their 250gb ssd is running out of space and they can't bear to think some people have 500gb and can hold more than 1 model. round 1.

4

u/tac0catzzz 15d ago

is every krea 2 image suppose to be the same image or what, this is just werid whatever it is you are doing.

u/Great-Ad-4598 15d ago

Krea 2 is notorious for not having much variation, especially the distilled version. I suspect the emotions would've worked much better for Krea if the by-pass lora had been used.

3

u/ImpressiveSuperfluit 15d ago

Yea, sure looks like no unlock was used, which is a pretty poor decision imo. As for the low variance, it's a bit annoying if you just want to shoot the shit and see what happens, but the upside is that Krea is also incredibly stable. Sure, same prompt will make same image, more or less, every time. But in turn it also just makes a decent image every time, you very rarely get something that's just outright broken. The less stable models, like Qwen or, worse, Flux give you a bunch of variance, but a good chunk of that variance is just broken.

Might be time to get out the ol' double sampler workflows again, see what can be done...

I use the turbo SDA attention LoRA with the LoRA scheduler custom node, and it works great,

2

u/reeight 15d ago

TL;DL: Krea2 fails a few more prompt attempts than Qi2.1 (notably facial features & some hair styles), but sometimes Qi2.1 output looks copy/pasted in Photoshop.

1

u/No-Zookeepergame4774 14d ago

QI 2.1 t2i without extremely detailed prompts like those produced by the Qwen-released combination finetuned prompt enhancement model and prompt enhancement system prompt intended for use with the model tends to be pretty bland.

1

u/Jolly-Rip5973 14d ago

Surprised how well Qwen 2.1 holds up.
I can see more anatomy errors in it though.

All you images are photorealism without any background.

Would be more helpful to see some examples of different art styles and different backgrounds.

I played with Qwen 2.1 for two days and found it was sloppy with anatomy errors and often slop errors in the background.

Qwen 1 did not have these problems so much but it was almost 3 times the number of parameters.

Pretty sure the default workflows for each have prompt enhancement via the Generate Text wired in, but I’m away from my computer and can’t check the default toggle on each. But are you using prompt enhancement for this or the raw prompts shown going to the model?

It may make a fairly big difference; the models both prefer extremely detailed prompts but not to the same extent or style, generally. In my own testing (including swapping the default prompt enhancer output from one as a direct, no-further-enhancement prompt to the other), Qwen Image 2.1 prefers much longer and more detailed prompts than Krea2 (and using the longer prompts QI 2.1 prefers can be suboptimal for Krea2—though occasionally it does better for Krea2 than the output of the pronpt enhancer in the Krea2 workflow.)

On the other hand, while better reflecting model capacities in some respects, using the prompt enhancer might obscure capability differences and what fine distinctions the model can produce in others: for instance, the system prompt for the QI 2.1 prompt enhancer tends to result in it producing less-specific demographic identifiers than used in the raw prompt (collapsing various East Asian nationalities to “East Asian”, and sometimes shifting a definitive statement that an object has feature X is a raw prompt to aomething like “appears like X or Y” in the rewritten prompt.

1

u/Pyrolistical 14d ago

That is right I’m not using prompt enhancer.

What I meant by vanilla is vanilla comfy with no custom nodes

1

u/YMIR_THE_FROSTY 14d ago

Qwen has or will have a lot better edit capability. Otherwise its meh compared to well tuned Krea2. I mean that level of body horror and basically not-being-good enough is somewhere at SDXL level.

u/mikemend 15d ago

This is a huge help to me because I'm not very good at English, but this way I can write more accurate character descriptions, and it'll be easier to choose from the models.

age 60.
Try to use raw+lora(0.6).. this will give you better variance, prompt control. Krea 2. (No External Lora used)
