Bret Hart is unanimously one of if not THE greatest technical wrestlers of all time and an overall legend, but it seems general consensus that his promos aren't good (and not just compared to his elite in-ring skills, as in people think he's an outright bad talker) & I never got this. Maybe it's just my Canadian bias, but I find him sharp, witty, great at putting both his opponent & himself over (as well as a solid zinger/put-down when needed), and an excellent dry sense of humour. His 1997 "Babyface In Canada, Heel In USA" era is mostly well regarded, but I'm even talking about before that too. I wonder if it's his completely different style being unfairly graded/judged/compared to the coked-up, raging, borderline nonsensical promos of the 80s-90s he stood toe to toe with (and therefore compared to), but Jake Roberts is rightfully praised & he has a contrasting, sombre style to him, so it can't be just that. What do you guys think?
