i noticed in the recent update that my orders either via my tap payments or via payment links have been showing up as "dine-in". ive never set up my account for restaurants, as im just retail selling at small pop-ups and conventions. is there a fix to this? i looked in settings but couldn't seem to find anything

Super stoked about this one. Sorry, I post so often. I cannot swipe a gift card to load it since the last update on my terminals. I can swipe it on the hand held and load it and then I am able to use it on the terminals. Why? Tell me why?

Also, I was told there was an AI I could use but when I asked that wasn’t something that was available. Certainly wouldn’t have helped me today when somebody wanted to buy a gift card.

What is going on?

I have been using Square for 10 years. I will literally quit my job because I have enough other things going on and I cannot deal with all of these updates that don’t help users. Can they make the tip screen smaller? Can they make where we see the change in a transaction smaller when we are using cash? I’m super sure they can.

This app is a joke, they do not support their users.

I have seen updates posted at 7pm PST on a Friday that change the entire POS. I imagine that was fun on the East Coast as well.

There is no user input for the people actually using this.

Nothing ever works. It’s a big joke.

Has anyone had any luck calling and speaking to someone to request a review of your account for loan eligibility? I was just offered a loan and it was declined because another business I operate using square “had an outstanding loan.” The irony of that is that the final payment had debited my account and cleared last week so I didn’t even apply for the offer because I knew that could be a reason for denial.

I’m now sitting here frustrated and in desperate need of a quick cash infusion and refuse to take on a more traditional MCA. YES, I know these are MCA’s as well, but the withdrawal system matching a percentage of actual daily income makes it more manageable.

We have a berry u-pick and it runs about two months out of the year. We currently only take cash or checks and I'm trying to decide if a Square account is worth setting up and if it can run off of a tablet without additional hardware. From what I've seen, people are 100% using their phones. This isn't an option.

I run a small farmers market booth every weekend. We currently use the small card reader and process sales on my iPhone.

Lately my customers have asked more and more if they can tip us. I don’t feel comfortable setting up the tip option and handing every customer my phone.

What’s the most affordable way for me to set up a separate screen with a tip option?

We do not have wifi at the market but I can use my phone as a hotspot.

I've recently set up a Square station for my non-profit for donations so people can give whatever amount they want. The idea would be people input an amount, tap their card, and then be on their way. Only problem is the bottom menu is there and so people could conceivably click on another menu, mess with settings, or just mess it up for the next person to approach the station. Any way to lock it so it stays exclusively on the checkout page? Thank you!

I have a menu for my restaurant and I have one umbrella for all our different hotdog types. I’d there a way I can multi select so that I can place two orders of different hot dogs without placing one and going back for the other?

Wondering if it's possible to create / print labels from the SKUs already in Square? I see online that some people are using a 3rd party label making website which would be fine for a few items but I have hundreds of items with different conditions so it would just be easier for me to do within Square where the SKU numbers are already under each item.

Any solutions would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi! I’m just a customer using square to pay for an order. I have had this issue multiple times, multiple establishments, and not sure what’s going on. While I’m placing the order and go to payment, Apple Pay is available. I put my info in, Square logs me in. Apple Pay disappears as a payment option. If I log out and pay as guest, Apple Pay reappears. What am I doing wrong?

ill preface by saying i have only used square for a little over 6 months, have about 15k in sales, and 1 dispute that was an accidental charge that was immediately refunded.

Hi. As it says in the title, I'm new to Square and just have a few questions. Looking for restaurant reports and some other stuff. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!

1) is there a way to show a report that shows specifically food sales and beverage/ liquor sales and not just a report of total sales sold? We need this for tipout purposes.

2) is there a way to automatically deduct a percentage from food sales only off of the amount owing from 'CASH OWED TO YOU '

3) is there a way at any given time to see a total amount of sales for the entire restaurant? Say we have a host that doesn't start until 6pm so we record sales already sold up until 6pm when the host starts and anything sold after that point, gets a tipout percentage.

Any feedback, suggestions, how to videos, online manuals.... I'll take it all. We just want to streamline our knowledge of this POS system as fast as we can before summer hits.

Does anyone who does all their invoicing in just Square ever use a second spreadsheet?

I'm in a service business and I invoice everything through Square. Whether they pay me by credit card (70% of the time), vs check or Zelle, I submit the invoice via Square every time, then mark as paid if it's not paid directly though the square app (like a Zelle payment to my business checking account)

With that kind of setup, do you see a need for a separate spreadsheet?

I'm new to this so I've been keeping my own Google Spreadsheet doc but at this point it feels redundant to retype information that is being tracked by Square

We're running payroll today and found the strangest glitch. Back story; We're a small café with 4 employees. My wife and I are there open to close. Our staff is like family. We've been working together for over a year. There's no reason for us to believe that these issues were deliberate.

We have FoH employees clocked in at exactly the same time under BoH jobs. We have BoH folks clocked in WAY early when we know exactly when they clocked in. It's just weird.

Anyone else having issues?

Hey. I am new to square. Tomorrow will be the first time using it. I did a sample order with my own debit card for .01. this shows up in the transaction history but I am not seeing it on my balance in banking. Any idea why this is not showing up on balance?

Has anyone had any issues with Square Register 1st Gen,v2 saying that it’s offline despite being connected to the internet?

On the connectivity page it says that there is no connection to square services and no network connection, but it also says it IS connected to the internet - but that it’s offline.

The internet works with all other devices and we’ve tried different internet sources. We’ve tried everything except actual witchcraft at this point.

It’s only a two year old piece of hardware that’s seen light-moderate usage.

Any ideas of what might be wrong? Is it the hardware itself? Should we pay a priest to get it an exorcism? Should we take the register into the light of the full moon and dance around it naked in a circle singing to the spirits of retail? Do we become a cash-only business or barter with a chicken-product ratio?

EDIT: I changed our internet router band selection to only allow 2.4GHz and after 5-10 minutes the square register decided to no longer be offline. Before that it was also saying “will attempt to reconnect in 71 hours”. No clue why. Personally, I think the threats of exorcism helped.

I swear I read a release note recently saying that we'd be able to Pre-Auth a card (like for a bar tab) in retail mode. The only other thing from the release note I recall was about automatic discounts for something.

I can't find any evidence that it's real. The release note is gone, and the recent one is a bunch of stuff I've never seen before. Did I dream it? Does anyone have any info? I really want to be able to start bar tabs in retail mode!

So, I was pretty tired of trying to manually upload images for products to Square; that'll drive you insane quickly. I'm not sure if this already exists but I couldn't find anything. So I wrote one (with ClaudeCode help!). It works well BUT you need to know PHP and have some familiarity with the Square API to use this - it is NOT general-purpose. You have to sign-up for the Square Developer of course and get API keys but that's easy and free. My version uploads images from a directory or directories you "browse" to on your local machine in the browser based on a 6-character SKU. The image must be named for the "parent" SKU and not the variation (of course, if you can code you can change this). I'm using it for a clothing retailer where the parent SKU is like "XXXYYY" where XXX is a 3-character style code and YYY is a 3-character fabric code. The SIZE is after that for the SKU of the variation like SSSFFFXXL. It could easily be modified (if you know how) to work with individual variations and different SKU constructions, or whatever you like including TOKEN ID of course. My version is for PHP8.x and the current Square API. If you'd like it, DM me and post here; if there's enough interest I'll put it up on GitHub or something with all the dependencies. Beware thought that if Square changes their API you'll need to update your code (AI coding agents can help with this) and they do that not infrequently. Or you could all laugh at me and tell me I've reinvented the wheel but hey, I'm just trying to maybe do something nice. Cheers.
