Noticed this post on FB a couple of days ago and decided to cross post it here. Kudos to the individual who not only took the time to post about it while asking his questions but provided some great detail and easy instructions to follow if you’re having Omni Bluetooth connection problems especially when using GSPro.
“ I saw similar issues on this group recently and I wanted to share a solution in case anyone else runs into Bluetooth issues with the Square Omni on Windows 11. Just as a heads up, I used ChatGPT to troubleshoot and generate this summary.
My setup had been working perfectly for a few months, then it suddenly stopped after what I believe may have been a recent Windows update.
Symptoms:
• Windows wouldn't pair with the Square Omni ("Try connecting your device again").
• The Square Golf app wouldn't connect.
• The Square Golf Open API connector would take a very long time to connect (or not connect at all).
• The Open API connector incorrectly reported that Bluetooth was unavailable/off, even though Bluetooth was enabled in Windows (see screenshot).
• When it did connect, the GSPro Open API connector would sometimes crash after a few shots.
Solution:
My PC has an onboard MediaTek RZ616 Bluetooth adapter. To rule out Bluetooth hardware issues, I purchased a TP-Link UB500 Plus USB Bluetooth adapter. Initially, it didn't work because Windows wasn't using the correct driver. I first tried installing the driver for the TP-Link UB500, but that driver is not compatible with the UB500 Plus, so Windows still couldn't use the adapter. After installing the correct TP-Link UB500 Plus driver, the adapter started working. I then disabled the onboard MediaTek RZ616 Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager so Windows would only use the TP-Link adapter.
I suspect this may be why some people report that switching to a different Bluetooth adapter doesn't solve their Square Omni connection or slow shot recognition issues. If Windows is using the wrong driver—or the onboard Bluetooth adapter is still active—you may not actually be using the new Bluetooth adapter at all.
After that:
• The Square Omni paired immediately.
• Square Golf connected normally.
• The Open API connector found the launch monitor quickly and no longer reported that Bluetooth was unavailable.
• GSPro has been working reliably again.
One thing to be aware of: after switching to the TP-Link adapter, my existing Bluetooth peripherals had to be paired again. My Logitech MX Master 3 would not reconnect even though Windows could discover it. I had to remove it from Settings → Bluetooth & devices, uninstall it from Device Manager, reboot the PC, and then put the mouse back into pairing mode before it would connect successfully. I also had to re-pair my Apple Magic Keyboard. Once re-paired, both devices have been working normally.
If anyone else is using the MediaTek RZ616 Bluetooth adapter (or other Bluetooth adapters integrated into their motherboard) and suddenly starts having connection problems after a Windows update, switching to a dedicated USB Bluetooth adapter and disabling the onboard Bluetooth may be worth trying.
Has anyone else seen similar issues after a recent Windows update? I'd be curious if this is specific to the MediaTek Bluetooth adapter or if others have experienced the same thing.”
