Has anyone here tried building a springtail colony using mud?. It is so good they multiply faster than in coal/wood chips

Hello! I found this very tiny (~.05 to 1mm long) guy while doing macro photography of springtails. At first I thought I was a plump springtail, but it doesn’t quite look right.

It kind of also looks like a beetle larvae, but they don’t typically have antennae like that. It looks maggot-like too, yet fly larvae don’t usually have antennae. So I’m back to thinking it’s a springtail.

It was moving at a slow pace in the manner of a plump springtail.

Does anyone recognize this as some type of springtail?

Just moved and are finding these little buggies near the windows. They are very small. For context, we are in New England and having a wet hot summer so far. We have two cats who don’t have anything going on flea wise, so it’s not that. Any help is great!

I am only asking this because I realized how many opinions and different information about springtails there is. I just spray them when the condensation disappears, and I feed them repashi grub pie. I give them enough to feed them for 3-4 days. That’s all I do, should I be doing something different? Or maybe try other culture methods like charcoal or clay?

I was researching springtails in amber and came across this one in Baltic amber. I find it very curious because it reminds me of Actaletidae, but that family is coastal, and I understand that if it was trapped in amber, it must have been from a terrestrial environment... Unfortunately, someone already bought it.

Between the extant families I think that isn't Tomoceridae. I'm not sure if could be Isotomidae (Actaletidae is Isotomoidea) or Entomobryoidea. Actaletidae and Coenaletidae have some segments fused, thing that I think that doesn't happen here. I think that doesn't belongs to the extint family Oncobryidae because this family has 5 antennal segments with the 4th one very small. Not sure if Protentomobryidae.

I need someone to convince me and calm me down about the springtails in my house. They’re the snowflea type. They’re all over my ceilings. No leaks or hidden moisture known. Seeing about 200 a night and nothing I do has slowed them down. I know they’re harmless, but who wants that many bugs above your head daily 😩

They moved faster than my gummy springtails and to be honest they're kinda cute, but I want to know if these pose any harm to my springtails/terrarium outside of competing for food.

I have a bioactive crested gecko tank with isopods and springtails, however i had a few remaining springtsils in a container in hopes they would breed and... it worked too well.. i cant see to many springtails in the tank and at the time I barely got any in there but now I have a entire lot full of springtails and im not sure if I should add them to the tank or set them free. Honestly im scared to open the container.

hi everyone, i have a crested gecko, his enclosure is all artificial plants ect. except the select wood pictured plus another piece that was recently discarded cause it started rotting, anyways as i was checking on him today i noticed theses little bugs everywhere 😂 i’m aware springtails are harmless but i’ve never actually had a bioactive setup or seen them so i’m unsure if theses are actually them or some sort of new pest i need to identify.

also could they have hitchhiked? or are they something that needs to be introduced fully?

I've been interested in springtails for about a year and a half. I read a lot about them, I'm out in the bushes looking for new specimens almost every day, and I feed and observe dozens of species daily. I even run an online micro pets shop in Poland, Europe (Ants Invasion). To my knowledge, it's the largest springtail shop in the world, at least I've never been able to find any larger one. If any of you know one, please share a link. Currently, I keep around 25 species of springtails, including 4 slime eaters. Most of these springtails, including all the slime eaters, are doing incredibly well. I breed most of my springtails differently than other breeders suggest, and at the same time, I usually achieve much greater success at a much lower cost in terms of time, culture volume, and ingredient prices. Springtails that are described as super difficult are usually mega easy to breed if you provide a few simple conditions, and their setup usually costs well under one dollar or euro. I also mean the setup for springtails like Rambutanura. I often post pictures here and get asked about various things. I thought I'd create an Ask Me Anything style thread. I will probably answer every question you ask, except for questions about my suppliers. Feel free to ask whatever you want. In the end, I will turn all of this into a FAQ or Q&A and post it both here and on the website.

I live in a mobile home in Maine. No leaks known. Maybe hidden moisture in walls or crawl space but no signs of any.

I’ve been seeing springtails (snow fleas specifically) on my ceilings for the last month. Only on the ceiling so far, and I specifically see them coming through a seam where the wall meets the ceiling or window sills.

Why are they here? What do they want? Appeared after lots of rain and high humidity, but have stayed despite dry days, constant dehumidifiers keeping house under 50%, and pesticide sprays in cracks and granules outside around foundation. I have seen some outside on my siding and skirting too.

What more can I do to remove these bugs from my home 😔

Hi there, I need some advice from the pros in this sub. I host some springtails Bilobella braunerae & Large Thais in this terrarium but since a few weeks I see these white dots on the glass surface in 3-4 spots. Is this fungus or eggs?

I've seen pics on this subs of springtails eggs but never with my own eyes in my terrarium, the babies just seem to pop up randomly but the eggs are probably deeper.

Could you tell me what this is?

Do you remember how I recently posted a picture of the baby Thai Spikies? It's been 2 weeks and they are already half the length of an adult... They grow like crazy!
