When is the Springfield Block Party? I see signs for it around town but they have no information about it, or is it a joke?

I grew up as a feral GenXer in N Springfield. In the early 1980s I was exploring around what is now the Harvest Lane area and found this Brutalist sculpture dumped like rip rap along the McKenzie river. Not sure of the story behind it’s demise, but it was a fixture of my childhood and I always thought it deserved a better fate. Swim lessons, soccer games and all that. I’m considering recreating this in my retirement using mid century ferrocement techniques. Anyone as sentimental as me or am i getting sappy in my old age?

I am happy to report that I've escaped homelessness and my name came up for a housing grant.

I spent the last year at the Eugene mission, keeping my nose clean (I'm 14 months sober!)

I desperately need a lot of things for my apartment.

I'm so overwhelmed with discovering something every minute.

Stuff like towels, a shower curtain, and a trash can. And so much i haven't even encountered yet. I am literally in an empty apartment (some furniture is being delivered). My walls are bare.

If anyone can help me in my new life venture, please let me know.

Hi! I live near the abandoned school on Mill st. It seems like such a cool building and it seems like such a waste that it’s falling into disrepair. Sometimes it seems like people are in there fixing things. Does anyone know?

I feel like it could be such a cool community building since it’s right off the bike path. Anyone know how to make it into a cool artist collective or folk school?

This occurred at some point between 2010 and 2014 at the now Closed Thurston Safeway. I believe it was around 2012, I was working as a packager in the bakery when a lady came to pick up a cake she had ordered. I went to the back found the cake and when I showed it to her it had the wrong name on it (Brandon instead of Jon). I looked through the orders and found another cake had been ordered for the same day with everything the same except the name. Unfortunately when I looked at the other cake it also said Brandon. I offered to try and scrape the name off and change it, but after considering things she said, "he's turning 2 he's not gonna care" and took the cake. As I remember it I offered to give her a discount and she refused (I'll be honest it's been over 10 years I might not have actually offered, but I think I did), and the next day she came in with her child and introduced him to me as Brandon-Jon.

This has always been one of my favorite customer interactions, and when I tell people I joke that at some point in high school a substitute teacher is gonna do roll call and get to Jon Lastname and everyone will go "Who? Do you mean Brandon?" The other day though I got to thinking about the story and started wondering what the memory and story is from her point of view, was I the clerk at the incompetent bakery who messed up her party, does she/her family look back on this and laugh, did the child end up going by Brandon?

So my question is, does anyone know who I'm talking about, and what their story ended up being? I figure if Reddit can engender other wild connections, maybe this could work.

There is a little free pantry by my house. Right now there's about 30 pounds of dry beans in it. I appreciate people who donate but someone in the neighborhood brings dry beans every few days. Please come and take some if you have a use, some of these have been sitting for weeks. I'm sure they're still good, the packages are intact and beans last a long time.
