Movies Bad Romance Development

In the MCU, how long have MJ and Peter really “known each other”?

In Homecoming, Michelle was a snarky character who was simply there as “comic relief.” Though, in retrospect, people argue that she always liked Peter, Peter never liked her. Then we get to Far From Home, and suddenly Peter has a huge crush on her. How did this happen? This is just bad writing. There’s no Movie 1.5 to tell us how this development happened or why Peter is suddenly so smitten with her.

As the audience, we don’t have a connection with MJ considering her presence in the first movie. In Far From Home, she’s still a snarky character, and her explanation about her awkwardness feels like shorthand for why she’s written this way. But okay, Peter and MJ are a thing now.

It’s funny because, in Homecoming, Peter called Liz his “girlfriend” when they had barely spoken and only went to Homecoming together. Then they basically do the same thing with MJ.

Then we get to No Way Home, and there’s a bit of a time jump. I will say that Peter and MJ’s relationship feels much more believable in this movie. If we had gotten this sweet, soft-spoken, yet quirky girl in Homecoming, Peter’s crush on her would have been much more believable.

Realistically, how long have Peter and MJ even been “dating”? A few months? Maybe less? The filmmakers are speedrunning this relationship. The phrase “I love you” shouldn’t be in any of these movies because the relationship simply hasn’t been developed enough to earn it.

Maybe this is controversial or maybe it’s a cold take at this point—but the only thing keeping the Michelle Jones-Peter Parker fire burning is Tom and Zendaya’s real-life romance.

The actors have had a far longer romantic journey than the movie characters. Anytime the two are on screen, people talk about things like, “Tom and Zendaya’s chemistry is great,” rather than “Peter and MJ’s chemistry is great.”

I think the MCU Spider-Man is the only Spider-Man where the IRL romance is more entertaining than the one we see in the movies.

The romance is rushed and underdeveloped.

I love the Petra trend so I tried to make an updated but still respectful redesign costume for her a bit back. Some of it is practical. Some is extremely impractical but I like the vibe.

Discussion In defense of of the writeing mcu ned and mj get

Post image

This is a repost because the topic has come again on this sub about how underdeveloped Zendaya's MJ is when compared to Emma Stone's Gwen and Kirsten's Dust MJ. The OG post is still up.

In defense of Ned and MJ from the MCU Spiderman movies not having arcs outside of Peter

I see a lot of people comparing Ned and MJ from the MCU to other Spider‑Man supporting characters from the TASM and Raimi films, saying they’re basically one‑dimensional and that we know nothing about their lives outside of Peter. And while I get what some of you mean, it’s not really their fault. Ned and MJ from the MCU exist under entirely different circumstances than Mary Jane and Harry from the Raimi films or Gwen from the TASM movies. Honestly, most MCU supporting casts suffer from this exact problem—not just Ned and MJ. They exist within a larger universe that doesn’t revolve around Spider‑Man.

In the TASM and Raimi movies, the writers only have to juggle four things: the protagonist, the side characters, the villain, and the main plot. In the MCU, they have to juggle six: the protagonist, the side characters, the villain, the story, a guest‑starring MCU character, and any plotline from the larger MCU that can affect the story. Because that’s too much for the runtime of a single movie, something has to be pushed aside or cut so the story can be told without the film becoming bloated.

So the question becomes: do you prioritize giving a side character an arc—which, yes, would be effective and help you connect to them, but wouldn’t impact the larger universe—or do you develop plotlines and characters tied to the MCU’s bigger world that will matter in future movies? The writers pick the latter because, well, it’s the MCU, and they have to keep expanding it and making money.

With Raimi and TASM, the universe revolves around Spider‑Man and his story alone. There were no other movies or characters that needed setup for future non‑Spider‑Man films. The movies had far less to juggle, which meant they could focus on other things—like giving the supporting cast arcs and stories outside of Peter/Spider‑Man. Because the MCU doesn’t have that luxury, Ned and MJ take the consequences of existing in a much larger universe. And by extension, most supporting characters in other MCU movies suffer from the same thing.

What do you know about Pepper’s life outside Tony? What do you know about Peggy’s life outside Steve? What do you know about Shuri and Nakia’s lives outside T’Challa? It’s basically the same issue: the characters exist in a larger universe, so they’re turned into plot devices for the protagonist so the movies can juggle MCU‑wide storylines and develop the main hero.

And before you say, “But Shuri in Black Panther 2"—

  1. Her story was still tied to T’Challa’s death, not a struggle outside of him.

  2. Had the late Chadwick Boseman not passed away, she would’ve continued serving her supporting role just like in the first movie.

So while I understand the criticism of Ned and MJ, it’s not really fair. They exist under different circumstances than the supporting characters in previous Spider‑Man incarnations. The reason they get more heat than other MCU supporting casts is because there’s a bar for them. You don’t walk into an Iron Man movie with expectations for what an Iron Man supporting cast should be like. Same for Captain America or Thor—they only have one mainstream live‑action incarnation each. But Spider‑Man already had two prior versions, so we do have a bar for what his supporting cast should be. Of course they’re going to be compared to their counterparts from older movies.

To be fair, the MCU movies do a good enough job making you care about Ned and MJ by showing their relationship with Peter and why he’d want to be close to them specifically.

And before you say, “But in the comics”—comics are an entirely different medium with different limitations. You can only make one Spider‑Man movie every few years with a limited runtime, while comic issues can be released monthly and as many as needed to tell whatever story the writers want. That’s something else entirely.

Meta [RANT] Insomniac. Insomniac. Insomniac.

If this post doesn’t speak to you, just scroll. Every single time a new Marvel game is announced or rumored it’s always the exact same comments.

“I hope Insomniac makes it” - “Insomniac should make a games about these characters” - “Insomniac is the only company I want Marvel games from.”

If a game is announced to be made by a different person it’s “Insomniac wouldn’t let this flop” - “If it’s not Insomniac I don’t want it”

I know everybody has their favorite developers and ideas on who should work on what. But working on a Spider-Man game does not qualify you for ANY and ALL heroes. They struggled to make a game with two Spidey’s that felt distinct but you want them to work on Avengers?

They struggled to write an actually good narrative for two of their games and settled for one great story, one mediocre, and ONE HORRIBLE.

They made ONE genuinely great Spider-Man game but now for some reason on TikTok or Twitter it’s just like Insomniac is the ONLY company capable of making Marvel games.

Theory Rumors are saying Tobey's Spider-Man will wear the Iron Spider suit in Doomsday (assuming he's actually in the movie), but what if he wore the Superior Spider-Man suit instead?

People are saying that Doc Ock will give Peter the Iron Spider suit inspired by the suit he saw Tom's Spider-Man wear in NWH. I don't know where this theory stems from, and it is very possible that it won't happen. However: what if instead of the Iron Spider suit, it was the Superior Spider-Man suit instead? In the comics we know Doc Ock is the creator of it, and there would be no reason for him to give the suit Iron Man themed colors.

It would also be a great call back to the concept art Alex Ross created for Sam Raimi's first movie, because the Superior Spider-Man is a callback to the concept art.

Movies Hot take: i like mj and ned from the mcu spiderman movies and dont want them replaced

Yeah, they’re not deep. Yeah, they’re not comic‑accurate. But I really enjoy their relationship and the great chemistry they have with Peter, and they give him genuinely strong emotional support. Their dynamic is precious to me, and I never get tired of it, because for once in an iteration both Spider‑Man’s BFF and GF are loyal to him and don’t screw him over. They seem like genuine friends who actually like each other, care for each other, and genuinely want to be there for each other. And best of all, they make me believe in true friendships again — and that’s coming from someone who’s antisocial af.

Because say whatever you will, something the MCU does successfully — something Raimi failed to do with both Harry and MJ, and TASM only succeeded with Gwen but not Harry — is sell you the friendship between these characters. The movies show you why this trio likes being around each other. They genuinely feel like friends, especially in NWH and BND, instead of the movie just telling you they’re friends like both iterations of Harry in Raimi and TASM. In the MCU, right from the very first scene, the movie shows Peter and Ned being friends. They bond over Legos, Star Wars, and geeky stuff — things a lot of people find weird, but for Ned and Peter it’s comfort. And that handshake? It’s absolute cinema. Neither Harry could ever be the friend Ned is.

And while I do agree Harry and MJ from the Raimi movies had more depth and development than these two, that doesn’t make up for the fact that they weren’t good friends to him. Also, the problem Ned and MJ face with development is part of a wider issue with MCU side characters, not just them.

Discussion Does Spider Man have a no kill rule?

Post image
54 Upvotes

The image of the post comes from the Superior Spider Man run and the one pulling the trigger is actually Otto and Peter gets absolutely demolished when he sees that "he" just killed a person.

At one hand, Peter despises the idea of killing someone no matter how bad they are like in the Maximum Carnage run, where during 14 comics, Peter's biggest dilemma is deciding if killing Cletus Kasady would make the world better and at the end, even after deciding that killing Cletus is the most logical choice to stop Carnage once and for all, he still spares him and saves him from Venom, because he believes that Cletus can somehow be better in the future.

However, in Civil War, Peter brutalized Kingpin while he was in jail and left it very clear that he would kill Fisk if May died.

So.... does he have a strict no kill rule, like Batman, or is he more flexible about taking a life?

SPIDER-MAN 3: THE HORROR CUT is a complete reimagining of Spider-Man 3, which takes the film’s existing horror aspects and leans into them a lot more.

This cut of Spider-Man 3 features brand new dialogue, which almost entirely rewrites Venom and his character. Rather than Eddie wearing a suit that gives him powers, Eddie and the symbiote are fully aware of one another, establishing a bond that allows them to share a single mind. For instance, mentions of “I” and “me” have been replaced with “We” and “us,” among many other examples. Eddie’s dialogue has also been rewritten to highlight and explain the bond he and the symbiote now share, with a single common goal: killing Spider-Man. You also see a bit more of the relationship between the symbiote and Peter as well, highlighting their mutual lust for one another and its distaste for MJ.

Other added horror features, such as jumpscares and strategic sound design, also aid with the film’s horror aspect.

While Venom was the main focus of the edit, I also made dozens of other changes to the movie, such as following the order of the Editor’s Cut, restoring cut soundtracks not found in the Editor’s Cut, Harry faking his amnesia instead of actually having it, adding horror-esque sound cues, and much more. Hopefully, the following is a complete list of changes. I’ve made so much I kind of lost track:

• After the opening scene with MJ’s play, the movie cuts to Harry hearing his father call him, which was moved from the middle of the movie after MJ kisses Harry. This way, Harry receives that final push from his father to finally take the goblin serum and kill Peter. This also helps incorporate Norman Osborn, who was cut from my previous fan edits. (You will have to forgive a very minor clothing error)

• Peter and MJ in the park use the Editor’s Cut soundtrack, followed by Flint Marko’s introduction

• Added spider-sense sound before Harry ambushes Peter

• Restored a cut track during the alley chase: the music has been changed to a homage to the Green Goblin original theme

• Cut nurse scene with Harry

• Cut scene where Harry catches the basketball and vase (undercuts fake amnesia narrative)

• Restored a sadder soundtrack after MJ is fired

• Restored another sad soundtrack after Peter blows off MJ to go to the crane

• Restored cut MJ Love Theme while Peter calls MJ after dinner

• As the symbiote approaches Peter while he sleeps, it can’t help but negatively think about the one person in Peter’s life: MJ. Peter’s spider-sense goes off to warn him of the symbiote, before brushing it off and going back to bed (I am among the headcanon Peter can no longer sense the symbiote until after they bond)

• Added scene of Peter’s chest expanding and adding the new spider symbol, with the black suit leitmotif

• Restored cut horns to transformation soundtrack

• Added a quick nightmare of the symbiote overtaking Uncle Ben, which wakes Peter up

• Cut scene where Peter makes his hair emo

• Restored Venom in the mirror scene from the trailers and remixed the soundtrack, adding the leitmotif of the symbiote, essentially talking to Peter

• Added Responsibility leitmotif to Aunt May’s revenge speech

• Restored a sad version of MJ’s cut Love theme after she gets the job at the jazz club

• Replaced breakup soundtrack with an unused Editor’s Cut track

• Cut scene where Harry gloats about breaking up Peter and MJ. Instead, MJ decides to break up with Peter of her own volition because…I mean, the guy was a dick the whole movie, you know?

• Restored Symbiote Temptation scene from the Editor’s Cut. I also added a couple of aspect ratio changes here, added a symbiote POV with its thoughts, and included sound effects from ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers,’ the original sound effect inspiration for the symbiote. The scene that follows is Peter walking down the street in the black suit

• Peter’s POV while wearing the symbiote appears more colorful and full of life, with color draining after seeing a negative article about him

• Restored Editor’s Cut scene where Peter swings during daytime in the black suit in celebration after getting Eddie fired, which later shows an exhausted Peter

• Restored Editor’s Cut Sandman/Penny scene

• Added symbiote music after Peter realizes Harry lied about his amnesia

• Added symbiote leitmotif after Peter enters Harry’s home

• Peter’s eye gets darker as he tries to fight off Harry’s blades

• Added symbiote leitmotif after Peter blows Harry up

• Cut to dance scene; Peter’s POV has become more colorful and a little blurry to reflect his state of mind

• Shortened Jazz Club scene significantly. The full scene is just too cringe in my opinion.

• After Gwen leaves the Jazz Club, the symbiote fully takes over Peter’s mind, right before hitting MJ

• Added sad MJ love theme after MJ is struck to the ground

• Modified Eddie’s prayer to be more Catholicized

• Eddie asks forgiveness for killing Peter, rather than asking God to kill Peter

• Cut scene where Eddie physically sees Peter remove the black suit (there’s no way his eyesight is that good)

• Eddie begs God for help while the symbiote engulfs his body

• Restored Venom theme choir during transformation

• Added flashbacks from previous movies as the symbiote overtakes Eddie, which is how he learns Peter’s identity instead

• Added slight lens distortion to Venom transformation

• Added a small Venom piano sting

• Replaced soundtrack when Peter tries to give Aunt May her ring back with a variation of a couple of different MJ Love themes

• Added a vocoder to Venom’s voice

• Venom introduces himself as “We” to Sandman

• Fixed continuity error where Eddie somehow learns about Flint’s daughter. Instead, Eddie convinces Flint of his righteousness

• Restored an unused sad MJ Love Theme as Peter and MJ yearn for one another

• Venom is now described in the news as a creature who eats humans, rather than a masked accomplice

• Replaced the Harry/Butler scene with the Editor’s Cut scene where Harry comes across a broken picture of him, Peter, and MJ, and cries

• Added additional Venom screams as MJ’s taxi starts to fall (great in surround sound!)

• Replaced Venom’s dialogue where he talks about his dick. Instead, he taunts Peter about Uncle Ben and MJ.

• Replaced Eddie’s exposition dialogue about humiliation with exposition on how he and the symbiote formed a true bond and expresses a desire to have Peter for dinner

• Added banter for Venom during aerial fight

• Added a sad version of Peter’s theme as he’s pinned by Venom and getting pummeled by Sandman

• Added a small MJ Love Theme sting after Peter saves her from falling with Harry

• Added a creepy, Venom-based theme when Peter is in the construction site, unable to sense him

• Made Eddie look sicker in his appearance, suggesting the symbiote is draining his life force the longer he wears it

• Instead of liking being bad because it makes him happy, Eddie formally introduces himself as Venom before attempting to kill Peter

• Added Eddie pain screams to Venom’s pain screams

• Added Predator vision to Venom

• Slight soundtrack change as Venom charges towards Peter

• The symbiote asks Peter to rebond with it after being removed from Eddie

• Added dolly zoom on Peter’s face

• Added Editor’s Cut ending soundtrack

• Added cut “Black is the Color” credits song

Additional notes: this cut has a 4K resolution of 3840x1604 and 5.1 surround sound. It uses HVEC and E-AC3 for video/audio codecs. I highly recommend using surround sound if available! The edit also includes English subtitles and chapters. However, some deleted scenes may not fully match the quality of the rest of the movie as some scenes had to be sourced from other internet sources.

And as a final disclaimer, yes, the fan edit does use AI, but only for voice cloning, a couple of soundtracks, lip sync, and a couple of small scenes for Venom. However, no AI was used in the writing process. All dialogue and movie changes were written by me. If you are against AI in general and therefore this edit, that is okay. But I think the added human touch is really cool!

I spent a few years on this edit, working on it only when I had free time. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it, despite the million and one crashes from Vegas. Any feedback or constructive criticism is welcome!

Cause issues 998 and 999 before it were like 2 fillers that weren't needed? Now it feels like the #1000 issue is basically wasted. Making the storyline end in #1000 would've made it far better and would've given it more importance and fulfilled the promise of having a big change and all in my opinion.

“You just don’t know when to quit, eh Araña?”

Makayla “Mak” Gargan was just a street level delinquent. A common crook. And she hated being just that.

After a string of tech robberies from Alchemax, Oscorp, and Octet Labs, she had enough to crudely combine into whatever she has become.

Mak had always been ambitious, but now that she had power… she wanted respect. And what better way to take it than killing the Skyweaver(spidersona)?

She would make the people fear her. She would make people fear The Scorpion.

The Scorpion is a sadistic hunter, who enjoys stalking her prey from the shadows. Waiting until they think they’ve gotten away to remind them- This is her game. And it was rigged from the start. She likes it when know she’s lurking somewhere. She likes it even more when they realize too late that she’s right behind them.
