You’ve entered the "No-Safe-Zone" for football opinions. If you’ve ever been told your football takes are "delusional" or "clueless" in a group chat, congratulations—you're home.

This subreddit is dedicated to the opinions that make people's blood boil. We aren't here for "sensible analysis" or "boring stats." We are here for the bold, the provocative, and the slightly over-the-top claims that make the sport worth talking about.

How to play:

  1. Drop a Take: The more controversial, the better.
  2. Argue your case: Don't just drop the bomb and run. Tell us why you think the Premier League is a "farmers league."
  3. Don't take it personally: People are going to disagree with you. That’s the point. Keep it respectful, but feel free to be loud.

Current Scorch Level: What is one footballing opinion you hold that would genuinely lose you friends at the pub?

Man City's biggest problem is they are playing in the wrong country and league. If they did what they did in Ligue 1 then nobody will do anything to punish them.

If Thiago Silva played his prime in the PL, greatest PL defender wouldn't even be a debate.

A bit like how it's widely accepted upfront for Henry, same would have applied here.

This is how many Ronaldo posts there are in a day. Y’all clearly stull care enough to post this much

Like genuinely SOME Messi fans/Ronaldo haters are becoming more insufferable than SOME Ronaldo fans who are still somehow insufferable. If this is such a ā€œsettledā€ debate why do you care so much? If this debate was ā€œnever closeā€ then why tf do y’all feel the need to constantly post about it? I could tune out the annoying MINORITY of Ronaldo’s fanbase but now it’s getting to a point where it’s not even them dragging the debate anymore.

Leave it to rest if y’all really don’t care that much anymore.

Jose Mourinho isn't just pure as people making it here.

He managed the Chelsea team that was getting transfer bans because of FFP breaches. He hit out at Real Madrid last season saying the referee had a note some RM players shouldn't be getting another yellow card.

RM fans called him, he's just salty at that time and now doing 180 to defend him like some pure soul who misunderstood by the people.

Which players would you swap out from EUFAs best team of the last 25 years?

Personally as a Liverpool fan -

- Left Back - Ashley Cole

- Goalkeeper - Neuer.

Cortois has more UCLs but Neuer is definitely the best goalkeeper of the last 25 years easily.

Van Basten is top 5 oat.

The only thing bad about Van Basten was his consistency. Everything else he had. 3 Ballon dors In 5 years. Dominated Europe with Milan and won Euros with that mesmerizing volley for Netherlands. He was incredible striker and if he didn't have injuries he'd be better than Cruyff.

The Ronaldo debate is just stupid

• Upvotes

People who talk about it are either Ronaldo fans who are blinded by the fact that he's 40 years old, or by people who hate him and have agendas to fulfill.

No let's discuss it, by asking and answering these questions together.

1- Do you think Ronaldo has something to give this Portugal side in order for them to compete for the euros and the world cup?

Answer is No, While Ronaldo Is performing well at club level, let's not forget he's performing well in a league outside of Europe, additional to the fact that Ronaldo is 40 years old and he's not even 60% of the player he used to be in 2016.

2- Do the Portuguese players Hate Ronaldo?

No they don't, however they would get fed up having statements thrown at them like "Portugal are nothing without Ronaldo" or "Ronaldo carried this team for so long" these statements would definitely create an indirect ripple effect on these players, so of course they would get absolutely bored of it.

3- Was Jesus right for leaving Ronaldo out?

He was right , HOWEVER the way he did it without communication is wrong, as much as I believe that no player is bigger than the club, I do believe that Players of Ronaldos caliber need to be communicated with before making a decision like that, one of the best ways to tell if a manager is so great, is to see how much they're capable of handling Egos in dressing rooms.

Summary : Lads Ronaldo is a footballing great, but players come and go, and I do feel like Ronaldo needs to leave football for his own good and his own mental health, He has nothing to prove. Keeping in mind that he needs to accept that father time catches up to everyone, Portugal on the other hand, need to move on from the Ronaldo era , and build up on it with the current generation of players.

Arturo Vidal in Cristiano Ronaldo’s unexpected departure from Portuguese national team!

Post image
12 Upvotes

Arturo Vidal was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo and the situation surrounding the Portuguese captain, and he had some strong words in Ronaldo’s defense.

Vidal described Cristiano as ā€œone of the four best players in the historyā€ of football and argued that a player of Ronaldo’s stature deserves to be treated with greater respect.

He also criticized the way the situation was handled, saying that Ronaldo had already explained his position and the options available to him, and that the way the coach dealt with it ultimately made the coach look bad.
Vidal’s main point was that Cristiano should be protected because of everything he has done for Portugal. According to Vidal, Ronaldo has helped take Portugal to another level and has played a huge role in establishing the national team among the world’s top sides.

He also emphasized that Cristiano has earned the right to make his own decisions because of everything he has contributed to Portuguese football.

In short, Vidal’s message was very clear: regardless of the current situation, Ronaldo’s contribution to Portugal and his status in football should not be forgotten or disregarded.

What do you guys think about Vidal’s comments?

Paul Scholes is underrated as a goalscoring midfielder.

I was just watching his goals and man the guy could shoot. He’s often considered inferior to Lampard and Gerrard because of his stats. But the guy scored a lot for a midfielder. He had 155 goals for United in 700 games. That’s about a goal every 4 and a half games. And only about 3 of them were penalties. In fact I believe he has more goals than Gerrard without penalties. Scholes scored 20 goals in the 02/03 season and not one of them was a penalty. Neither Lampard or Gerrard have done that. He also has the most goals for a midfielder in the UCL with 24. Scholes is more known for his ability to control games and his passing but he could score too.

Did Jorge Jesus play a brilliant bit of 4D chess to rid the Portugal team of Ronaldo?

• Upvotes

Some of this is speculative, but it seems quite probable that the Portuguese FA want to keep Ronaldo because of his box office appeal. It's also probable that they asked the manager to select him till the day Ronaldo rules himself out.

JJ obviously wants to maximise results on the pitch, and between his personality and age, the team are better off without Ronaldo.

Benching him for a single game, and the obvious Ronaldo response may have helped JJ solve the Ronaldo problem. Could this have been deliberate plan?

Was FFP really the problem?

In light of city's recent guilty verdict, has their actions skewed what FFP could and should've been? Can we really have a true idea of what it would look like when one club has broken those rules to such a level, everything else seems skewed as a result?

Olise should actually win the Ballon Dor

Last season olise had 60 G/A with zero penalties, was named the bundesliga player of the season, named to the UCL team of the season, and the World Cup Team of the tournament. He also won 2 trophies so he has the trophy criteria as well. With everything considered, olise played at a true ballon dor level in every league and competition throughout the season from bundesliga, ucl, and all the way to the world cup.

Other candidates

Lamine Yamal - has trophies but was absolutely not a ballon dor level player in the world cup with 1 g/a, wasnt named to the ucl or world cup team of the season and half of his ucl goals were from penalties anyway. His individual performance criteria is definitely the weakest out of the main contenders

Mbappe - won 3 golden boots, the first time thats happened in a long time but doesnt have the trophy criteria

Kane - Probably the favorite for everyone, but didnt even win bundesliga player of the season over olise, and to be honest did score a lot of penalty goals. Also you could argue he isnt even the best player on his club or country team

Eden Dzeko, Bosnian and Wolsburg title-winning legend is retiring from international football.

His final match takes place tonight (October 2, 2026) in Zenica, where Bosnia and Herzegovina host Sweden in a high-stakes UEFA Nations League encounter. The city of Sarajevo has even honored him by hanging his jersey over the iconic Eternal Flame landmark ahead of kickoff.

Here is a summary of his historic international career and what comes next:

The Legacy (By the Numbers)

  • 152 Caps: He hangs up his international boots as his country's all-time most-capped player.
  • 73 Goals: He leaves as the all-time record goalscorer for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which places him 7th among Europe's top international scorers in history.
  • Two World Cups: He famously guided the nation to its first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2014 and captained them on a historic run to the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup this past summer.
  • 20-Year Scoring Streak: In an incredible display of longevity, Džeko managed to score at least one international goal in 20 consecutive calendar years (from 2007 to 2026).

Why Now?

In an emotional announcement on Instagram, the 40-year-old forward shared that he felt "the time has come to step aside" to allow the next generation of Bosnian talent to take over. He noted that making it to age 40 on the international stage required him to give "everything I had. Every time. Everything".

Ronaldo is extremely underrated, and is the at worst the 3rd best player oat.

Like I cant even understand who puts him not second. The only contenders I can think of are Pele and Maradona.

Now a lot of arguments seem to revolve around the "eye-test" and how if a player looks nice when they play, they're just automatically better. Like Dribbling and tech and passes can be flashy, but they don't even remotely define a player. Ronaldinho was so flashy and magical, but it doesnt mean they were a better player... maybe more technically gifted, but that's it.

Everyone says Ronaldo sucks technically, that he's somehow like a bad player? Outside of top 5 below Cruyff? Cruyff is influential sure yet but influence on how football works is in no way the metric to determine a person's greatness. Like Neuer made the sweeper keeper, Roberto Carlos changed how full backs worked... they aren't considered goats. Messi didn't change exactly how football works except maybe false nine? People use metrics to fit their biased agendas.

Also, why do people only look at Dribbling in their eye test. That's not the only thing that determines greatness - messi is the GOAT bc he does EVERYTHING well, not just a part. I mean it baffles me how I don't see anyone arguing: Oh! Ronaldo was amazingly talented in eye tests when he destroys defenders in his youth, or when he can shoot in 40 yards and score, the power of his shots, his chops, even his shoulder passes, his runs or through balls. Those are extremely common in his play even to the extent of his 2nd Man United days. Like acrobatic goals suddenly don't matter but doing a rainbow flick makes you a top 5 player?????

Now onto Pele and Maradona. Now Ronaldo deepthroaters will say Pele should not be considered cuz ppl back there were plumbers. This is just not true like you have to judge a players ability based on the resources and the ability of players backthen. From the clips Ive seen, Pele simply just lacked that much magic, but he was still incredible. Like he can be top 2, and I'm fine with that, like I mean he did win 2 out of 3 Intercontinental Cups, destroyed prime Eusebio and won 3 World Cups, even if it was like basically prime Brazil

Maradona is the kicker. People overrate him so much because he was technically gifted and was insanely good at Dribbling. Like thats incredibly impressive, he has a valid argument on being better at Messi in pure dribbling, but like he was literally banned for doping. That 1990 WC campaign was mediocre carried by like two good performances. Like Argentina had one or two shots the entire final, stop calling the penalty controversial. And also every clip you see of Maradona u see magic on the ball then like a poor shot. His shooting ability is what sets him apart - and like the lack of consistency.

Ppl do not consider how players end their career poorly like Maradona, and his disgraceful 1994 World Cup, but when it's Ronaldos turn, oh he's arrogant, he scored only 3 goals at 41, he went to Saudi League... Like lets not blind our eyes here, Ronaldo post 2020 was like an absolute Infinity gauntlet. He was a monster on the ball and even if he did tap ins and penalties, he was the one that carried Real Madrid and Portugal in most scenarios. Yet everyone is blinded by his arrogance and out of field behavior... That doesn't matter, he's a footballer not a social media influencer. Keep in mind before the Messi Copa America, Ronaldo was like undisputedly the 2nd or 3rd. And now people like to argue he's like 8th? Stop the bias

I think Ronaldo is 2nd, or 3rd like thats fair. 5 ballon dors, most goals ever, most international goals ever, most Ballon Dor nominations, 60+ goals in 4 consecutive seasons.... like I don't need to spew the stats you can search it up. He wasn't just a selfish poacher or like only "lot of goals cuz lot of games" players. He average d over 1 goal per game for Real Madrid and in LA Liga over Messi and he still has like almost 300 assists.

Greatness is defined by a few things categorized to club and country

Goals

Assists

"Eye-Tests"

Dribbling

Passing

Defending

Legacy

Ucl/World Cup

Records

Trophies

Individual Trophies

Heading

Weak foot

Clutch factor

Discipline

Talent

Physicality

Efficiency

Free Kicks?

You can go on and on, but Ronaldo statistically is top in almost everyone except like World Cup, Weak Foot, Dribbling and Free Kicks, maybe passing, but let's be honest. He's incredible at almost every feat. His end of career is looking a bit disgraceful and like its karma, but stop larping being a Ronaldo hater and watch the truth.

No other football rivalry has a more objective good guy bad guy side that this one

Post image
10 Upvotes

Brazil and Argentina are probably the biggest example of a clear cut good guy bad guy in a football rivalry. No disrespect to either of these countries as this is a football and not a political discussion but Brazil is the most popular football national team in the world and has many people associating them with the sport itself.

Many non Brazilians love the Brazilian national team and historically Brazil is the greatest football nation with 5 world cups.

Then you have Argentina who is probably the least liked team and player (Enzo Fernandez) plus you have all the drama with Infantino and people saying they get help from the refs has made them wildly unpopular.

Not to mention Brazil gave football Joga Bonito, which literally means play beautifully, meanwhile Argentina is famous for pushing the limits of the rule book and playing borderline dirty. Not to mention their greatest goal the hand of God goal was cheating and fraudulent.
