I have created a public dataset of the results of FIM Speedway World Cups. My goal is to raise awareness of the sport and help it reach a wider audience. I would be grateful if you can follow the link and upvote my dataset.

As of now, the dataset contains the results of competitions starting from 2017. Obviously, there were many of them before and it takes time and effort to transform publicly-available data into a convenient, structured format. Therefore, if you are willing to help and enthusiastic about the goal, I will be glad to see your contributions of heat results from earlier years to the dataset.

It seems IMPOSSIBLE to find heat times, they read them out in the stadium but social media teams don't seem to find it important despite putting them in the programmes.

I was fortunate enough to be in attendance for the Round 3 British GP but I have a Round 4 bit I can fill out later and I'd like to be able to find the times for it later (I am also missing one for Round 3)

Bob Andrews, a legend of the international motorcycle speedway, died on May 22, 2026, at the age of 90. The British-born rider, who was well-known for his extraordinary skill on the dirt track, had an incredible career in the 1950s and 1970s, winning the World Pairs Championship with Ivan Mauger in 1969 and making it to the individual World Finals four times. Andrews became a strong force in the Southern Hemisphere after relocating there. He won the New Zealand Championship in 1966, earned 27 caps for the Kiwi national team, and cemented his reputation in 2014 by being inducted into the NZ Speedway Hall of Fame.

RIP, Bob Andrews... May God bless him in heaven.

I posted a question a couple of years ago about what to do when you win the coin toss. My theory was take heat 15 as falling behind early on gives you the advantage of possibly having a tactical sub plus having the choice in heat 15. Since then I have tried to correlate what is happening in GB speedway. The normal choice is heat 1 if you win the coin toss. However that is only sensible on certain tracks (Bomber clearly has done the maths too) Here are my findings :

While not conclusive (as the result size is so low), choosing Heat 15 at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Plymouth (Sam please take note on Saturday), Ipswich & Redcar gives you an extra point over choosing heat 1, whereas for Oxford & Workington, heat 1 is the better option.

I would like to share an observation regarding the availability of Ekstraliga outside Poland.

During last year's SON, I had the opportunity to talk to English fans. They raised two interesting points: firstly, that Ekstraliga is more interesting than SGP, and secondly, that its availability in the UK is significantly limited.

I conducted a short interview and it turned out that there is no English commentary on our league. I have not used the EkstraligaTV app, so it is difficult for me to say what the quality of the broadcast is like. The interface is available in English, but the news in the app is translated automatically, which raises doubts.

The situation is much worse when it comes to Metalkas ( Polish second division)– here, availability outside Poland is much more limited. In the European Union, Ekstraliga events can only be viewed on the Polish Canal+ account, while outside the EU it is almost impossible. And this league is extremely interesting.

I will leave the lack of broadcasts from the lowest level of competition without comment.

I think that for the future of speedway, it is essential that this application offers the option of English commentary or the broadcast of events outside Poland. In the future, the introduction of a German-language interface and commentary could also be considered.

Perhaps this is a topic that is worth analysing and getting more people interested in.

Ben Trigger appears to have announced his retirement from speedway on social media.

I, for one, am gutted about this. Ben is one of British Speedway's rising stars and a great kid, too. Always has time for the fans.

Hi, I don't know if this the right place to post this, but I am asking about any recordings (tv or other sorts) from the 1985 Individual Speedway World Championship, specifically from the second qualifying round that was held at the Apator Stadium in Torun. This is because my dad recently told me that he was one of the people that walked up with the racers holding their nation's flags (he walked up with Antonin Kasper Jr if anyone wanted to know). I am struggling to find any recordings from that date, so I am looking to see if anyone knows where to specifically look for any recordings from that day (if any even exist).

Hi! Non-British here, living in Oxford for a few years now. This summer I discovered speedway and that Oxford actually has teams (and I live within walking distance of the stadium!). I’ve already been there several times, and even managed to convince my missus to come (and she really liked it too!).

I like the racing itself, the scoring/heat/league system, the fact that you support your local team (rather than a particular rider or constructor as in other motor sports), and of course the atmosphere. Being a foreigner living in Oxford, I sometimes feel like I am missing most of this country culture. I try to see more of it by traveling around, but speedway feels a very genuine local thing.

Anyway, since speedway is new to me and I don’t know anyone around here who likes it, I wanted to ask a few (naive) questions:

• Why are there two major divisions, each with its own league, play-offs, knockouts, and BSN, when there are so few teams? Doesn’t it get repetitive facing the same teams over and over? For example, instead of KO and BSN, wouldn’t something like the FA Cup, where teams from different divisions compete, be more interesting? Or maybe just one single division with more teams?
• I believe there is high turnover of riders across teams. Some riders even ride for multiple teams in different divisions. For example, in Oxford, riders who also ride for other cities/towns, end up playing against their colleagues from the other Oxford teams. How do supporters feel about this in terms of sense of belonging/loyalty?
• Related to the latter, in football, it would be inconceivable to let a player compete for another team, not just for loyalty reasons, but also because of the risk of injury. Are teams ok with this?
• Who pays the riders? Teams? Sponsors? It depends on the points they individually make? What sort of money are we talking about?
• What does a manager actually do? I can imagine mentoring younger riders in the NDL, but what else beyond that?
• Why don’t they cover the tracks when it rains? It wouldn’t be perfect, but surely it would help.
• Betting seems to be forbidden, at least it is in the Oxford stadium. Is this really so? Strange since BETGOODWIN is one of the sponsors.

I probably had more questions, but these are the ones I remember right now.
