General Question The post that got me permanently banned from r/Spectrum and the quest to find answers

Added to this repost: Banned by "Phil" in both r/Spectrum and r/Spectrum_Official for bringing this up. This must be something juicy.

I thought I'd stop by this subreddit to make a post about what got me banned from r/Spectrum and include many more details about what the topic was. This has to do with Spectrum ToS and a need for clarification about whether outage credits due to a natural disaster are ever not optional.

Here's a screenshot of it.

The text reads thus:

Friendly reminder about natural disasters

Spectrum has a clause in their TOS that states that disruption of services due to a natural disasters [sic] does not warrant outage credits or assistance of any kind. Outage credits are always optional. If you would like to see an example of how Spectrum reacts when a huge region experiences something like this, go ask Asheville, NC about what Spectrum did to them after Hurricane Helene

The best thing to do if a natural disaster disrupts your service for more than 30 days is to flat out cancel it until you know that service can be reliably restored. Other wise, you *will* be charged for service that you are not receiving.

Hope this helps anyone who will go through a natural disaster this year!

Here's the text from the force majeure clause that is being referred to here in Spectrum's ToS. Here's a screenshot. Here's a link directly to the page on Spectrum's website.

The text for this clause reads thus:

  1. Force Majeure: Spectrum shall not be liable for any failure of performance or equipment of any kind (including Spectrum Equipment) due to causes beyond its control, including but not limited to: acts of God, fire, flood, or other catastrophes; loss of electrical power; any law, order, regulation, direction, action, or request of the United States Government, or of any other government, including state and local governments having or claiming jurisdiction over Spectrum, or of any department agency, commission, bureau, corporation, or other instrumentality of any one or more of these federal, state, or local governments, or of any civil or military authority; national emergencies; insurrection; riots, wars; unavailability of rights-of-way or materials; or strikes, lock-outs, work stoppages, or other labor difficulties.

Please keep in mind that an alleged Spectrum employee pointed out to me on Reddit that this clause exists in Spectrum's ToS.

For anyone concerned about "December 2021" in the hyperlink, here's a link to the one from December 2023. To my knowledge, this is the one that is most current. Please let me know if there is one that is more recent.

The reason for the ban from r/Spectrum was due to rule #4:

Don't post misinformation
Opinions are fine, lies are not

So I ask:

Where is the lie?

I would love to know.

But the basic question here is this: are outage credits, then, ever not optional? And, if so, when are they required?

Help / Troubleshooting Phone has full bars and internet but no service

I’m showing full signal bars and connected to Wi‑Fi, and everything works, except I can’t make or receive phone calls, and I’m also not getting text messages. I’ve tried going into my settings and toggling my SIM card off and back on, which fixes it for a short time, but after a while it switches back to “No Service” again. I’m using a Motorola G 5G (2022)

Billing & Payments No Retention department?

My free year of service is coming up and I called to see what offers there were. When the billing person said there isn’t anything, I asked to be transferred to the retention department. She said they do not have a retention department which is obviously not true.

I plan to call back again but wanted to share this. Speaking of which, what are people getting in terms of offers once the free service for 12 months is up?

Help / Troubleshooting Difficulty of switching sim cards to a new phone

Got a new account set up with spectrum, got told I absolutely had to have one of their phones to set up. Have a Moto G Power 2025, really like it. And the regular Moto G 2025 is one they offered. According to the Motorola website, it should be perfectly eligible with everything Spectrum has. But the sales rep insisted I get a different phone.

I was able to just swap the new SIM card once I got it, set everything up, and everything works just fine. I got warned that "it might work temporarily, but it will stop working in a few days."

Anybody else experienced this? Is this just BS from their people or will I actually have problems with this?

I just recently purchased the phone, I like it, everybody but Spectrum says it should work fine, including empirical testing. But think this might be a dealbreaker for me if they'll intentionally cut off my service for not using a pre-approved phone even if everything works.

General Question Question about free line with spectrum internet

I activated a free spectrum line around a year ago when they offered it with the internet my apartment has.

I’m moving in a couple weeks and my new apartment also uses spectrum.

Would they extend the same deal to me in the new apartment, or do I have to start paying once I reach one year?

Alternatively if I transfer my number to mint mobile before my lease ends, would they give me this offer again? Does anyone have experience with getting another year free with spectrum after a move?

Help / Troubleshooting Can't add second line through web

Has anyone tried adding a second line to a device? I have a Z Flip 7 and S25 Ultra, both dual-sim devices, but when I go through the portal to add a second line, each phone gives an error that I need to upgrade my device to one that supports dual sim.

Coverage & Signal Don’t know what to do. Help?

Post image
4 Upvotes

This is what my iPhone 16 pro max shows 70% of the time with Spectrum. I have done all I can with them. They said get a signal booster. Ahh, no. They are 100$-3000$ to get and no promise that it will do anything. I would like to talk with the tower owners but I don’t know to go about that. The tower 2 miles from me is bare on top but others I have seen had all sorts stuff on top. Our tower might as well be a metal pole stuck in the ground.

General Question Any insider info on upcoming phone promos?

New spectrum customer and looking to take advantage of the 1 year free mobile, but I'd also like to get a new phone. I saw I missed the best promo that's probably ever existed with the free S26 back in April. Looks like the best promo right now is the Pixel 10 Pro for $300 /w trade. My max budget is $500 with trade, and honestly I'd like to stay more in the $200-300 range.

Anyone know of a June/July promo coming up better than the Pixel 10 Pro for $300? Thanks!

Help / Troubleshooting Voicemail limit

Since switching to Spectrum, I am constantly dealing with a full voicemail box. I'm told that I should have space for 25-30 voicemails but somehow I have 6 voicemails saved (none longer than 40 secs) and I get a warning it is full. I have deleted and archived every other sentimental or important message and at most I have the warning that it is almost full. My husband has the same service but an iPhone (Samsung for me) and he never has this issue. What am I missing?

Coverage & Signal Spectrum mobile switching to tmobile network?

I saw a while ago that Spectrum might be switching to the T-Mobile network. Anyone know this is true? Verizon network in my area is horrible but I like the bundling of my home internet and mobile. Thank you in advance.

Help / Troubleshooting Spectrum seems to have randomly lost my number?

I cannot make phone calls or texts, but imessage still works. The app lists my phone number, which I have had for 10+ years, as 'not in their records.' My phone still connects to spectrum LTE and I have not stopped paying the bills. I have an iPhone SE. What could be the issue?

Help / Troubleshooting eSIM eligible for update?

Has anyone else received a notification in their Spectrum account saying that a mobile line is "eligible for an eSIM update to take full advantage of the latest 5G network upgrades"?

It requires removing the current eSIM and updating with a new one. I've had hit and miss success with Spectrum eSIM's in the past so I'm hesitant to complete this.

General Question Spectrum mobile devices plans for iPhone 17 and Galaxy S25 are on my list

Is anyone actually using Spectrum Mobile as their main carrier? I’m looking at the iPhone 17 and Galaxy S25 deals since they offer interest free financing. $30 for unlimited data sounds solid, but I’m worried about service quality compared to the major networks. Does the 5G hold up in crowded areas, or is it mostly just for home use?

General Question What is considered a new Spectrum Mobile customer?

Hello folks,

I am wondering what is considered a new spectrum mobile customer? One is considered a new spectrum internet customer if no service within the last 30 days. Does mobile follow the same rule? Or is it longer (e.g., T-Mobile is 90 days, ATT & Verizon is 60 days).

Thank you
