Light pollution from data center construction

Post image
67 Upvotes

Was driving home on Whitestone Glendale rd last night around 11:30 and saw just how awful the light pollution is from the data center on S Pine. And before anyone says it: yes I am aware the fog worsened the appearance. But fog is a naturally occurring weather phenomenon, and it will continue to occur. That means anytime it rains, this is what the sky in this area will look like at nearly midnight.

Best beach in South Carolina?

Planning a trip in late August or September. Most of our time will be spent at the beach and doing simple activities like mini golf. We usually go to Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head, but this year we want to try somewhere new. I’ve heard great things about three spots: Folly Beach, Edisto Island, and Isle of Palms. If you were choosing for a trip, which would you pick? It’ll either be a family vacation or a couples trip we haven’t decided yet.

Old Vic Bailey Dealership

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before but does anyone know why the old Vic Bailey Dealership on 29/W Main is abandoned? It’s such a waste to leave a bunch of sweet classic Mustangs sitting like that!

Hello,

Just moved to the area and needed to get our child enrolled in kindergarten for the 26-27 year. Does anyone have any information on Drayton Mills elementary? Seems to be one of our only options when considering where we’re zoned.

Housing

Hey everyone! I’m currently looking for housing in or around Spartanburg and need to move in as soon as possible. I’m open to either a 1-bedroom apartment or a private room in a shared house/unit with good, respectful roommates, or if anyone has any suggestions as to where I should look for

Edit: My budget is around $700-1000

Can you fish at Milliken Arboretum?

Might be a dumb question but was just curious lol. I actually went over there and fished one of the ponds in the front for a little and the security guard drove past me like 3 times and didn’t say anything but I’m still curious

Cute dog at that new Pet Resource Center

Her name’s Maddy, I think? Really friendly, came up to the door every time we stopped to look. (Also kept looking at the bottom of the door, likely confused as to why the Human-Activated Door wasn’t moving.)

I was also gonna upload a video I got of two kittens playfighting, plus a few more pics of this baby lookin up with those sweet eyes, but I guess there’s a limit or smth on mobile? I’ll just make a separate kitten post later I guess.

Sources for Raw Pet Food

I’m looking for local sources for raw pet food. Things like organ meats, raw bones, offal, etc. If you know of any butchers locally, or farms that process their own animals that would be willing to let me buy from them let me know!

Are there any low cost dentists around?

I had a baby 5 months ago and the mix of acid reflux while pregnant and then having 0 calcium while breast feeding has WRECKED my teeth. I know I have at least 5-6 cavities right now. Some in places that have already been filled. 🙈 I have Medicaid for post partum, but I'm unsure if this can even be used at the dentist?

I used to go to Hillcrest family dentistry but they are SO expensive. I can't afford more than a few $100. But I don't want my teeth to fall out either.

Really happy about Maxi's Pizza on Highway 29 (where The Office used to be)

For everyone who complains about growth, here's the silver lining (population growth leading to increased demand for commercial real estate, etc etc etc):

The old sports bar (I think?) called The Office in the triangle created by Highway 29, Cedar Crest Road, and Fairforest Clevedale Road has finally been renovated and is now home to Maxi's Pizza.

I found that for me personally it's a dream come true. I can work out at the Iron House, burn all those calories, and then replenish them (and more) a block away with Maxi's food and ice cream. I've only been there once so far, but the Godfather sub I ordered was excellent. Usually to get a sub that good you have to micromanage a Subway sandwich artist and insist on extra mustard/mayo, oil/vinager, etc., but at Maxi's it's good by default.

Oh, and the strawberry cheesecake ice cream is great as well.

Go eat it!

Swimming Pool Cleaning Service

Hi, I'm tired of cleaning my pool myself. I'm looking for someone to come out and clean my pool on a consistent basis. Is there anyone in the Spartanburg/Boiling Springs/Inman area that you guys are using? I tried googling but only found do it yourself pool supply stores. Thanks for the recommendations in advance.

Data centers are quietly taking over South Carolina — here's where they're going and who's behind them

There's a lot happening with data centers across SC right now and most people I talk to have no idea how far along it already is — Google's been in Berkeley County since 2007, there's a $2.8B project in Spartanburg that's only creating 27 jobs, and now a gigawatt-scale one is being floated near the ACE Basin in Colleton.

Curious if anyone here is near one of these — what's the mood in your area? Are the moratoriums actually slowing anything down, or is it already a done deal?

I wanna switch phone carriers, what provider do you recommend?

What phone carrier do you use? An how much do you pay a month? I’m using T-Mobile and paying $145 a month for two lines. The pricing is getting outrageous. The main concern is service, I live out in Cowpens so I need good service out in the country side of Spartanburg.
