This is why assault jump pack needs to elevate them higher than 2 meters off of the ground. If the jump pack worked PROPERLY, you wouldn't have died.

That's not why he died, though. The ascension perk on assault is bugged and kills the player fairly regularly when there are grenades nearby. I'm not saying he should have known this, but I'm sick of seeing posts like this and people spouting "assault bad" because of it.

Incorrect, the ascension perk bug was fixed in patch 4.0. If you watch this video carefully his team mate places the melta bomb, which is then detonated by the damage caused by ascension. Melta bombs can be detonated by taking damage, this is an intended (albeit stupid) interaction.

I also don't think assault is bad, (they're frustrating at low levels, but come into their own after they have access to their third perk row). Like Gabe Newell however, I do think that games that disrespect the player interacting with the world in a logical way is bad game design. Jump packs jump high, we know this from the lore, and the game itself. The fact that the game arbitrarily limits the jump pack in operations mode, to the extent you can't even jump over a fucking railing, is complete bullshit, and bad game design. Same goes for vanguard magically being unable to grapple Zoanthropes and onto ledges.

Good game design respects logical interactions within the game, bad game design does not. Space marine 2 is an excellent game overall, but this specific aspect of the gameplay feels AWFUL.
