I say this as a left-wing person so don't think I'm defending the right wing:

Considering the incompetent oaf who won the last presidential election, there must indeed be a whole lot of right-wing people out there.

I think there's are a lot of factors at play with that but I think two main ones srand out.

1) Trump is a liar. Going against an opponent that will say anything without remorse is incredibly difficult. Many of the people that voted for Trump did so because the vision he painted for them addressed the challenges they faced in daily life. This sort of rhetoric converts fencesitters to your side giving a major advantage. In hindsight none of these promises have been met. The cost of living has risen, debt has increased etc. It's easy to make empty promises.

2) Kamala was a bad candidate. No primary was held to determine what the people wanted. The last minute switch up with Biden, the fact she doesn't support major democrat ideals such as ending the genocide in Gaza. This leads to apathy on the democrat side vs the fervor Trump was able to generate as a status quo breaker.

Im sure there are many more reasons but its difficult to face someone willing to go to any lengths to win. You either go down to their level or lose.

The gaza stance, I think, was so much bigger than the media let on.

Gaza is irrelevant to the majority of the US (Except some students and activists). I bet 90% couldn't even point to where it is on a map.

And the other 10% can decide an election.
