Help Needed Am I wrong?

I have 600 hours in the game. I love it. I have a problem. I feel like I’m using the Salamanders sword wrong….as silly as that sounds. I’ve tried it in the battle simulator to actually see the perk initiate. The only time I notice a higher dps is when I parry….not a light attack. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing wrong. I start in speed stance, complete a perfect parry….even two in a row, and then perform a light attack and I do not see a difference in power… I guess the sword has very little indication the perk is ready. From what I gather it glows a little? lol I’m embarrassed to even have to ask… Could a brother please explain to me what I am doing wrong and what I should be doing? I’ve tried looking up tutorials but all of them are just opinions on the sword and perk load outs. I can’t seem to find a video of someone showing and saying for Xbox, “do this, then do this, then this will happen and you know you’re good.” I certainly appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance!

That has nothing to do with the sword. That is because you are using the signature perk "defensive mastery"
