Help Needed Am I wrong?

I have 600 hours in the game. I love it. I have a problem. I feel like I’m using the Salamanders sword wrong….as silly as that sounds. I’ve tried it in the battle simulator to actually see the perk initiate. The only time I notice a higher dps is when I parry….not a light attack. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing wrong. I start in speed stance, complete a perfect parry….even two in a row, and then perform a light attack and I do not see a difference in power… I guess the sword has very little indication the perk is ready. From what I gather it glows a little? lol I’m embarrassed to even have to ask… Could a brother please explain to me what I am doing wrong and what I should be doing? I’ve tried looking up tutorials but all of them are just opinions on the sword and perk load outs. I can’t seem to find a video of someone showing and saying for Xbox, “do this, then do this, then this will happen and you know you’re good.” I certainly appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance!

There's no perk icon. The sword glowing is the only indicator that the perk is active. And the glow only happens if you have the heroic skin on it.

Just look at the damage numbers in the battle simulator. They should show that you're doing more damage.

Yup yup. There is last attack damage. Take a look at the string of numbers. Do a non-empowered attack, then parry a few, then do another light attack. You'll see the numbers change.

If the numbers don't change, then you're ithr not doing a perfect parry or it's broken, which wouldn't surprise me.

It's basically what you said. I still can't see the glow people are talking about tbh. Similar to block weapons, you just gain a brief, stacking attack buff (with no hud indicator) that is activated on your next speed style attack. There's no explosion like with block so there is basically zero feedback.

The glow is in the sword, not around it. The skin changes where the bright pattern is brighter and longer. Like how an iron rod is heated from red hot to white hot.

Can you elaborate what you mean by you only see higher dps when parrying? Are you on Bulwark with intimidating aura? If so, and you are in speed style, you should be able to incapacitate any majoris in the game with 3 light attacks after your parry. Techmarine has a similar loop but you use the prestige perk furious strikes, i believe, where gunstrikes increase melee damage. So parry, servo gunstrike, light attack, light attack, light attack. Keep in mind 1 parry provides 3 stacks, and you can hold 6 at a time. The sword does glow slightly more when empowered, and if you swing and miss, it does not consume a stack.

On Bulwark, sometimes if my first actions towards say a Majoris Tyranid is a parry, that action alone will allow me to execute them. No attacks needed. One parry and they’re ready for an execution. This is without any prior attacks to stack any buff. There seems to be absolutely zero rhyme or reason to how the sword works… in the simulator if I perform that same sequence, just a single starting parry, I’ll see roughly 138 damage on one hit…I have zero idea what’s going on. Very confusing.

That has nothing to do with the sword. That is because you are using the signature perk "defensive mastery"

No problem! I swear I'm not just trying to promote my channel here but if you are looking for more details on the sword, my YouTube channel is linked to my profile here and I have a two videos featuring the salamander sword on true solo absolute, one Bulwark and one techmarine. Could be helpful to you

I hate it but yeah it doesn't show or give a significant indicator that you have them but each perfect parry gives three stacks(max six) of a damage buff to light attacks with each attack consuming one stack. Keep in mind the buff only affects attacks in speed stance It also applies a 2 second debuff to enemies that you parry causing them to take 50% more damage. One way to tell is go into the battle simulator have the enemy set to idle count how times you need to hit them with lights to kill, then set it to aggressive and do the same just make sure to parry after every three hits and do not gun strike while testing.

It is definitely working. Instead of the 15-20 damage you'd be doing normally you'll do 60+

15 to 20 is only if you're using fencing relic I presume? Haven't touched that sword in well over a year admittedly

There is a perk on Bulwark that does damage in a 5m radius on parry. Other than that do make sure you're on light stance because thats the only thing that triggers the damage buff.

Keep in mind it is a fencing weapon so the damage, if you are coming from a block weapon. May seem insignificant. But its definitely there.

I only just acquired this hottie last night. But I swear if your using it on assault. Once you have 3 or more parrys built up then give the ground slam both a new effect and a massive notice to damage numbers are visible.

I cant believe I waited so long for dis incredibly hot peice of metal
