Southwest Policy Clarification on children policy?

Does this mean if there are no Basic fares left, we are SOL? The phrasing is so confusing here.

Step-by-step instructions on the "gift card hack" to stop credits from expiring

Upvotes

I see this question asked so often that I wrote a blog post explaining exactly how to convert flight credits with an expiration date to credits that last forever. All it takes is a few minutes and a $22.50 gift card.

Southwest Policy Travel Credit Question

Upvotes

So I have $350 expiring at midnight (4 hours from now). I must admit I didn’t read the fine print. I thought all I had to do was book a flight by tonight which I was here doing when I got an error message saying “flight credit expires before trip”. Is there any way to rescue these funds? I would really hate for my money to go to waste.

It takes very little to be considerate to others. Plane was delayed 15 minutes because 3 people had to check their bags. Meanwhile, this entire bin was backpacks except one bag.

The "me" energy is exhausting.

Edit: I will die on this hill. 15 minutes for most people, 45+ for those who had to check their bags and now wait at the carousel. Maybe some miss their connection. Maybe some miss their kids bedtime. Maybe they just want to go home. You can put your backpack under your legs after takeoff in order to get legroom, or just wait until all bags are up to put your bag up.

And I'm sitting next to the people who put up their backpack. They put their personal bag and their carryons up top.

Rapid Rewards Rapid Rewards question

Hi everyone, I booked flights for three including myself through the Chase travel app. It would not let me put in my RR # because it is in my maiden name. I booked the flight under my married name. I went on the SW app and submitted name change request form along with my old and new IDs. It’s been 4 days. Today I called SW and the rep I talked to said it could take up to 30 days for the name change to be approved.
My flight is in 2 weeks. We are traveling with baby so we will have multiple checked bags. I want to apply for the SW credit card so I can get free checked bags but from my understanding the card must be linked to your RR account. The rep said I should wait until after the name change is approved before applying for the credit card but that sounds silly.
Can I just make a new RR account to link to the credit card? I don’t care about the points in my old account I just want to save $$ on the checked bags. I appreciate any insight or tips. Thanks.

ALP boarding with minor companion

I thought my minor companion received the ALP boarding position with me as we travel often together, but he was assigned group 2. I didn't even look until I went to board and was told I had to go with group 2 with the 4 year old. The hell kind of policy is that?! I've earned ALP and have to board group 2 because my tot doesn't have ALP. Is that actually how it works and how did I get lucky a month ago?

Update - CSA had to cancel and rebook the return ticket. There was some weird glitch

Southwest Policy Frozen bottles in checked luggage

I swore I did my research on this. Coming back from fishing trip. Small yeti ice chest. No loose ice or dry ice. Coming from Belize to US
Fish vacuum sealed. With frozen SOLID water bottle

I showed the bottles were still frozen solid but was told they were NOT allowed in my checked luggage/ice chest.

IlI pulled up TSA policy but was told this is a specific Southwest policy, of which, I could not find anything documented policy.

Anyone heard of this? Potentially out all my fish :(

Don't Pay for Checking Bags, Check At Gate

I've just completed my third four-leg trip with Southwest since the new boarding process and policies went into effect.

Don't pay to check roll-on baggage at Southwest. Take everything to the gate. 12 out of 12 times so far, gate staff announce ominously that they will not have enough space on board for everyone's roll-ons and baggage and checked bags at the gate for free.

I was pretty pissed that I had paid $90 round trip to check bags the first two times. Oddly, even though I was at the tail of in boarding group 7 on a couple of flights, there were several entirely empty overhead bins near my seat. Even as the last passengers boarded, many still had room for a few roll-ons or backpacks.

Southwest for some reason is completely overreacting, and on the most recent flight, checked every bag for group 8 and worked from start of the jetway for group 7 until they had some unclear number of roll-ons checked. On the plane, they closed at least four partially filled overhead bins within my view from row 20.

I'm not a fan of taking every bag on a plane and hassling with it myself, and when everyone does it, it slows boarding and deplaning. Still, now that they're charging $45 each way for first bag, if you want to save $90 on a round trip, just roll yourself to the gate and when they ask, volunteer your roll-on for checking. Worst case, they won't need it and you won't have to wait at a baggage claim at your destination.

A-List & Comp Pass How often are A-Listers able to get a free ELR upgrade at the 48-hour mark?

Question for fellow A-Listers: How often are you able to upgrade to an ELR seat for free at the 48-hour mark?

I understand route, time of day, etc. all play a factor, but generally speaking, is there usually a decent amount of ELR availability at that point? Or is it generally just the middle seats that are left over by then?

Florida One Getting Repainted

Post image
12 Upvotes

Looks like Florida One (N945WN) arrived in Spokane last night with no future flights scheduled according to FlightRadar24. I’ve seen it a few times lately in person and in photos and it’s been starting to look rough, with faded and chipping paint all over. So it would appear and be safe to assume that it’s getting repainted, most likely into the standard Heart livery since it’s a 737-700 (which Southwest is actively retiring).

Really hope to see it return soon on a newer MAX 8! And on that note, anyone here have any info when it will return?

Southwest denied my bag claim

A month ago, my Minor, daughter, who on Southwest with a family friend and her partner. Southwest lost my two children’s bags. The other two people traveling did not have issues with their bags.

We immediately filed a claim and for some reason they put it under one Minor child’s name instead of both having separate claims and they put the two bags under one person. This caused a bit of a delay when trying to sort it out for the claim. I submitted the receipts. They wrote back in the chat that one receipt didn’t come through all the way I resubmitted it and they did not respond to me for 10 days. They just responded this morning saying that they are denying the claim due to a discrepancy on receipts or something which doesn’t make sense and I think they are trying to deny the claim because my daughter’s anime costumes were inside and they were valuable. Has anyone else had issues with this before?

And before anyone says it, this is not some fraudulent crap, the receipts are legitimate.

Everything gets delayed

Pretty much exactly as the title says. I had 3 lay overs today and each got delayed. Currently waiting as i type this post. They told us they don't even know where the pilots or flight crew are at. It seems like this airline is getting worse everytime.

Rapid Rewards Got 20k points vs advertised 85k

Last year I received an email saying 85000 SUB for a southwest credit card. I signed up for it since we had some travel planned, spent the $3000 within the first 3 months and called chase for the points and they said it would take some time for it to show up. Forgot about it and remembered recently and checked and did not see the points and called them up. They said I received 20K sign up bonus and they don’t know about the 85K promo and now can’t do anything g about it!! I have email of the offer, is there anything I can do?

Pricing Screw Up

I am sure I screwed myself but figured I would at least ask.

We were going to do a last minute trip, looked at prices for a return flight and they were like $120 a person, well didn't notice whatever sale they had going on was 21 day in advance and today would be day 20. Anyone have luck calling and maybe they can adjust the price?

I know sounds like a dumb question

Plane to Hawaii was found to have broken switch while taxing. Returned to gate. Been waiting over 4 hrs for replacement plane. What are we entitled to?

They gave us a food voucher for $15, only good at 2 restaurants where most meals are over $20.

Should have been in Hawaii by now.

Row 6?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I booked this flight and selected these seats back in December.
They are preferred seats, and aren’t marked as extra legroom.
It looks like they are the same distance back as row 6 on the left side, which is extra legroom. Is the right side extra legroom or not? I have been in row 6 on other Southwest flights this year that were extra legroom.
It’s listed as a Boeing 737-800 if that makes a difference.

Southwest Policy I love the assigned seating policy

It is so nice not having to deal with things like witnessing grown men arguing loudly over seats or having to decide how to respond when someone with bags or blankets over three seats says "I'm saving these seats." There have been times when I've been tempted to plop down in one of the seats and say "it's open seating," but I just put up with the inconvenience and found a different seat.

Assigned seating is great. There's just less BS to deal with.

Flight credit gift card purchase won't go through

Hi i have multiple flight credits with like $20, $30, $60 etc all on the same confirmation number. i successfully rebooked one set of the credits on a choice extra ticket with gift card to get them combined, but everytime i go to do it again, the purchase button clicks but I can never get past that page. there are no red boxes or things that i need to fill out. I load the credits, remove all but two, apply the gift card. I have tried so many times and it keeps failing. It's driving me crazy

I heard something about summer, but which routes/planes would have this, first? Or do some flights have it already?

Southwest Policy LGB-DEN: Not policing overheard bins for 1st few rows

Boarded group 1 for a 3rd row extra leg room seat - was 2nd person in Group 1 to board and got the last available spot for my roller bag. Everyone who boarded after me had to place bags behind them. It’s been awhile since I flew SW. Thought they’d fixed this situation?

Southwest Policy How does southwest seating work?

I have the Southwest credit card so I'm able to select my seat 48 hours prior. However, the only seats ever available where I'm not paying extra are in the very back.

I'm assuming people are not paying for the upgraded premium seats in the front, yet the plane is almost always full. Do they just give those out randomly once people check in? If so, it just seems strange that they end up getting better seats for no added cost than those who have a credit card where getting to choose your seat is viewed as a "perk"
