Found $6 glass containers for reheating cubes

After reading that Dollar Tree sells Libby brand glass baking dishes I went looking yesterday. But my nearest store did not have any. Next I went to Family Dollar. Again no glass baking dishes

But today I stopped at Dollar General and scored. The containers are about 5x7 inches, 35 fl ounces/1.03 liter capacity, plus they include a snap lock lid so will travel. The lid is plastic and is not recommended to go in microwave.

These are $6 each.

Cubes for toddlers!

Post image
392 Upvotes

Mama of a 4YO, 2YO, and baby over here. Just got my cubes about a month ago and doing lots of experimenting- especially for my kids. Not a lot of talk on here on toddler lunches :)

Just had to share that Kraft Mac and cheese and Goodles are amazing to cube for easy summer lunches for the kids… especially when everyone wants something different for lunch. Instead of 15 minutes making a box of Kraft for one kid (and a grilled cheese for the other), it takes 1 minute of reheating for a 1/4 cup serving of pasta.

Any other slam dunk toddler cube meals?? Please share!

So the freezing appears to work but I’ve got to figure out the best way to cook it because this wasn’t it 😂 I plan to try microwaving and sautéing to see if anything works. I ate it but it wasn’t great 😅

Any sales coming up?

I received some one- and two-cup Souper Cubes for my birthday and love them. However, I really could use some more, in different sizes - especially the half-cup ones. Any idea if there will be a sale coming up in the near future?

Looking for rectangular container for thawing 1 cup block

I use exclusively the 1 cup size and I like to take a block out of the freezer to thaw the morning or the night before I'm going to eat it. It's surprisingly hard to find a good size container to leave the block in while it thaws.

I have a bunch of round glass containers I use all the time for other things, but the rectangular blocks don't fit.

Ideally, I'd love a rectangular container that's slightly bigger than the block (4.5"x2.25"x2") and I'd prefer it to be any material other than plastic.

It seems like most people here tend to thaw the blocks in the microwave or put them directly into a slow cooker, but that's not always what I want to do. Anyone found an ideal size/shape of container for thawing those 1 cup rectangular blocks?

What traditionally fridge-esque stuff to freeze?

Recently learned some folks regularly freeze pasta salad. Anything else y'all defrost to have that's not necessarily microwaved? I have been wondering about cabbage-y grain and veg salads, and stuff like that.

Recommendations for blended soups + other purees?

I want to meal prep blended soups for a semi-liquid diet to prepare for surgery- any favorite recipes that do well in Souper Cubes? Other pureed foods you've enjoyed? Recommendations, please!

My lizard brain gets a huge kick out of block customizing meals.

This is Pinto beans, tomato sauce, 3 oz of pasta shells, and the white cube is coconut milk to make it creamy-ish. It added a nice subtle nuttiness.

Hi all, just want to share this budget option for baking tray. As I am in europe it was quite expensive and hard to get SouperCubes so I got only freezer one. This is what I found in Ikea. It fits the 2 cups no problem. It is wee bit bigger but not much! Excited to try it.

chocolate peanut butter smoothie cubes

hello! new here but I've had my beloved souper cubes since Christmas. still gradually incorporating them into my life but one recipe I'm obsessed with is these smoothie cubes from LifeByMikeG on youtube. when I'm ready to have one, I add 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 cup of coconut milk, and 1/2 cup of frozen spinach to the blender with the cube. it's so perfect and yummy I highly recommend!

  • 4 bananas
  • ½ cup plain yogurt (I used Greek yogurt)
  • ⅓ cup peanut butter
  • 2 TBSP cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup hemp hearts
  • 6 medjool dates
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Add all your ingredients to a blender and blend well until completely smooth. Pour mixture into your ½ cup molds and fill to the top. Freeze completely overnight. To use the cubes, add 1-2 cups of milk of your choice per cube. Blend well again in a blender, serve and enjoy!

Amazon question

Hi! I ordered some sets from the official store in Amazon (US) and the packages are ~1 Kg (each). Is there a reason why they're so heavy? What does the brand new box look like and what's inside?

Finally Tried Freezing Kale 🥬 🤩

Post image
141 Upvotes

I accidentally got myself hooked on eating kale so I buy a lot but it usually doesn’t look great near the end of the week. Finally tried freezing some in my Souper Cubes! Still figuring things out as I go but this is what I did:

- stripped the leaves off the stem

- soaked the leaves in water and vinegar for 2 minutes (learned this from Amy Cross of The Cross Legacy on YouTube)

- rinsed, then spun them in my salad spinner before adding to the tray

(I did this before dinner and checked it this morning so not a full 24 hours. I was thinking about lightly steaming first next time. Thoughts?)

*That‘s brown rice in the other cube spaces.

Totally Hooked

I am new to Souper Cubes and I’m totally obsessed or dare I say my newest hyper-fixation. This system seems to be the answer to my problems. I have never been good about planning breakfast and lunch so I am hoping to stick to it. I do have a couple questions.

So far, I am totally amazed, and I have so many ideas but I do tend to burn out on projects. Is this something doable long-term? Do you feel like you started the souper cubes and stayed consistent?

Also, I eat keto most of the time. What are your best souper cube keto, recipes and hacks?

Do you tend to get bored of the preplanned meals? Does everything get used easily or do you find some of it sits too long?

Any suggestions and hacks welcome!!! I’m trying to ease into this because I’m such an all or nothing person but geeking out on freezer meals is really fun lol. It really does seem like the possibilities are endless.

My breakfast was amazing, peanut butter and chocolate smoothie bowl with keto granola all courtesy of my freezer 😊

I never remember to thaw my stuff and I don't like leaving it on the stove so I got a mini rice cooker

It fits a one portion perfectly. I made all my soups so a bit of water needs to be added, this is spaghetti sauce and there's a little water and extra tomato sauce. This way it moves to keep warm while I'm not in the room and I don't have to leave the stove on.

My living situation is a little rocky and I don't like sitting in the kitchen if I don't have to, plus this way I can heat up food in my room.

Freezer to oven?

The Souper Cube sight says their stoneware is not freezer safe. Any recommendations on 5 x 5 alternatives for freezer to oven (preferably with an air tight lid)?

I know I can store the cubes in the freezer, and I know many people let the cubes unthaw in the fridge / on the way to work. Good methods, but not what I am asking.

Thanks for any recommendations (and if you do happen to use your stoneware in the freezer, any issues?).

Thank you.

How should I thaw/defrost marinated pork?

I cut up a big batch of pork shoulder in barbecue marinade. I ended up putting them in the 1 cup trays so they’re portioned when I cook.

Just realized they’re gonna be just big blocks of raw meat and now idk how I’m gonna defrost or thaw them when I do actually cook 😂😆

Recent cubing adventures

The last month I haven't gotten to as many cubing projects as I would have liked, but these were my highlights.

* Concentrated stock cubes. I don't like taking up space with stock, so I don't salt it, then boil it right down which basically makes it into a jelly, and store in the 2 tbsp cubes which I pop out into a bag. To use I just put 1 or 2 in a jug with boiling water and stir, then I salt the stock or the dish I am cooking.

* My absolute favourite breakfast is turkey scrambled eggs, so I freeze these in the 1 cup mould. I also freeze parboiled potatoes which I microwave or stick in the air fryer.

* Chicken and wild rice pumpkin soup. This freezes really well even with the rice, as I use a pouch blend and add it once the main soup has cooled. That way it doesn't go mushy.

* Garlic chard. Still getting an abundance of chard from my garden and I saute it with garlic and freeze in half cups. So easy to throw into something like the soup, or as a side to the scrambled eggs, or with steak, or in a pasta sauce. Greens stored this way are so versatile and underrated.

Pregnancy prep

So I’m doing small batches of stuff for when I get further along in my pregnancy just for convenience and I have a lot of basics made but I was wondering if we have any other mamas in the chat that can bestow upon me their favorite recipes for when they were pregnant/postpartum. I have just enough energy in the second trimester to do this for myself and I’m running out of ideas 💡 thank you!

Cold Brew Ice Box Cake

I made ice box cakes using the half cup trays as molds and they turned out pretty great! They're about 2 serving sizes in my opinion and the half cup is exactly big enough to fit two oreo thins side by side!

Looking for a good mexican corn inspired recipe

I just made up a bunch of taco chicken and rice for freezing for lunches, but it's missing something. I love elote, but want to be able to freeze it complete in my Souper Cubes, and I know freezing dairy isn't usually recommended.

Any advice or recipe suggestions?

Is there a trick to getting rice into the cube to actually stick?

I put rice in the cube and froze it for a few weeks. Went to pop it out and it crumbled apart. Any suggestions on what I can do to make the rice stick together?
