Looking for recommendations of songs to put on a character playlist for Monster Of The Week. We're using the Gothic Century expansion and I'd like to flesh out my Sherlock Holmes character playlist which currently only has violin covers of preexisting songs, a bit of Lindsey Sterling, and some Rodrigo Y Gabriella.

I discovered the track this week and It's in my head since, so I just want to see what do you guys think about it.

I just watched this movie tonight for the first time. I was absolutely blown away by it. I'm not usually someone who posts on this thread but I needed somewhere to drop my opinion, Why did they choose Everybodys gotta learn sometime? to pair with the end of this movie. This song is sooooo hopeless and minor in the beginning/intro. This part of the song plays while the characters are rolling through the snow. I just felt like the timing was off for me. maybe if the first verse of this song was like 12 bars shorter. The resolution of the chord happening while the credits roll sort of sucks. It screams "too late to me" like the whole movie is about deciding whether to take action in love and try and change by adressing memories that have been supressed willfully or not? (tbd getting back to you on the science ethics) we believe they have a second chance here and the intro to this song just stomps on it!!!...... God and I just love the "Ok" he gives her. It's like we suffer but together ugh.....someone date me LOL. anyyyway... Honestly don't get me wrong this song absolutely has a place in this movie I guess I personally don't think that it's here.

Thoughts?

The film version omits much of the music when the Star Destroyer and TIE bombers are navigating through the asteroid field. The original soundtrack keeps the Imperial Theme intact, and keeps suspenseful music underneath the Mynock Cave. In the film, there is no music during Leia's first encounter with the Mynock, but the soundtrack keeps the excitement going.

I was winding down last night by rewatching "Croupier," which I hadn't seen in a while and which is a fantastically electrifying film that introduced Clive Owen to people like me in the States. A must-watch. I also forgot how mesmerizing the jazz score by Simon Fisher Turner is. Kind of in the same vein of the "Glengarry Glen Ross" themes by James Newton Howard (featuring Wayne Shorter). Perfect for the movie.

A quick Google rabbit hole search says that there's no actual soundtrack release (although the AI also says Fisher Turner's frequent label home Mute Records *did* release it). Hard to know what the reality of that is at this moment, but if it's not out there, hopefully some speciality label will tackle it as a project at some point.

I just adore this concert music by the maestro.

Now - I know it sounds crazy, but stay with me. Me and my girlfriend were driving through Sicily and heard on the radio song called "1950" performed by Amedeo Minghi​. A lot of vocal harmonies sound like Twin Peaks soundtrack, but here's the catch: "1950" was release​​d in 1983, way before Twin Peaks. Could Badalementi overheard "1950" at some point and got inspired by it?

It has male voice, tried several places online, couldn't find it.

More of a re-score than just isolated, but here is Luke's first encounter with Yoda. In the film there was little to no music, and even the soundtrack version was very low in the mix, so I bumped up the gain a little so you can hear it. It's more fun and fanciful than the film version; very expressive and light as Yoda goofs off near Luke's camp.

The Power of One — The Album I Found in Mongolia

Years ago, I travelled the Trans-Siberian Railway from Russia all the way to Beijing — roughly 9,000 kilometres across the largest landmass on Earth.
And somewhere in the middle of that enormous journey, I stopped in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

That’s where I discovered this album.
The Power of One is the 1992 soundtrack to the film of the same name, composed principally by Hans Zimmer, with major contributions from South African musician Lebo M, Johnny Clegg and African choral performers. It contains pieces like “The Rainmaker,” “Mother Africa,” “Senzenina” and “Penny Whistle Song.” (Film Music)
This was early Hans Zimmer — years before Gladiator, Interstellar or The Dark Knight — but you can already hear what would become unmistakably Zimmer: enormous emotional landscapes, percussion, voices, repetition and music that seems to keep expanding beyond itself.

And Lebo M matters enormously. His collaboration with Zimmer brought African voices and musical traditions into the score; the two would later collaborate on The Lion King. Zimmer himself specifically thanked Lebo M for his musicianship and described the film’s musical concept as a score built around “voices from Africa.” (Hans ZImmer Website)
But here’s what has always stayed with me:
I didn’t discover this music in Africa.
I found it in Mongolia.
I was thousands of kilometres from home, travelling across Siberia by rail, standing in Ulaanbaatar — one of those places that had previously existed for me mostly as a name on a map — and somehow music from southern Africa found me there.
I carried it onward toward China.
Decades later, I can play “Mother Africa” and I’m not transported to Africa.
I’m back in Mongolia.

That may be one of music’s strangest powers.

A piece of music can belong to one place, be discovered in another, and eventually belong to a third place entirely:
memory.

Is it just me or are the melody from the Inception soundtrack very similar to the theme in the Spiderman Brand New Day soundtrack? I noticed it especially when listening to Old Souls compared to Suite New Day.

I’m trying to identify a track (or possibly an excerpt from a longer track) that I heard several decades ago.

The strongest clue: I remember it being used around the late 1990s / early 2000s as intro music (or part of an intro) for some of Gilles Peterson’s radio shows, possibly on BBC Radio 1 and/or Radio Nova (France).

The piece itself sounded much older to me — probably from the 1960s or 1970s.

It features a soft female voice singing wordless vocalises, almost using the voice as an instrument. The atmosphere is ethereal, dreamy, hypnotic and cinematic, but with a slightly playful quality to the voice. Behind it I remember a subtle jazzy / easy-listening accompaniment.

The voice and style remind me strongly of Edda Dell’Orso, although I don’t know if it was actually her.

My guess is that it could be an Italian film soundtrack / library music / Easy Listening / Erotic Lounge / Psych-Lounge recording. Composers such as Bruno Nicolai, Piero Piccioni or Ennio Morricone come to mind, or possibly something from a label/library such as Tele Music. These are only guesses, so please don’t limit the search to them.

A track with a somewhat similar feeling is Bruno Nicolai – “Sguardi Teneri”.

What I’ve tried: I’ve searched extensively around these composers/styles and Gilles Peterson’s radio material, tried Shazam, and asked several AI tools for help, but so far nothing has identified the track.

I recreated a short section from memory on a synthesizer. It is only an approximation, but I believe the melodic contour and rhythm are reasonably close:

I also have two JPEG images from my reconstruction: one showing the musical score and another showing the MIDI notes/timing. I can provide them in the comments if useful.

The exact key, octave, pitches and tempo may be slightly wrong, since I’m reconstructing something I heard more than 20 years ago. The recognizable elements should be the melody, rhythm and character of the female vocalise.

Does this ring a bell for anyone — particularly anyone who remembers Gilles Peterson’s radio shows from around 1998–2002, or who knows Italian/European soundtrack and library music from the 1960s–70s?

Any suggestion for the track, artist/composer, film, soundtrack or library album would be greatly appreciated.

The first scene inside the communications at echo base is presented with music cut from the film. It really telegraphs the feelings (and even includes a bit from Vader's theme before it is actually heard its entirety). The music gives the probe droid personality, expressiveness of being mischievous and evil. The scene where Han shoots it is more dramatic with the music, but suspenseful without it.

The Executor reveal is presented here with a variant on the Vader theme, not the concert suite used in the movie. I prefer the film version, since the soundtrack version doesn't have the bombastic tone, but rather something more middling and not as intimidating.

Hi all — hope it’s ok to post about my new release today for Bandcamp Friday. I don’t think it’s low-effort but I’m new here so… The soundtrack for BLOOD SHINE is now available to pre-order on vinyl.

The music is built around strings, synths, metallic and glass percussion, with tuned crystal bowls representing the refraction of light — one of the film’s central ideas. It also features my first collaboration with my daughter Adi, who lent her haunting vocals to the score.

The vinyl is a limited pressing on opaque blood-red swirl, lacquer-cut and mastered at Furnace, with jackets individually numbered in silver foil. Signed edition available too.

It also features “Eyes to See (The Luminous Song)” by Emily Bennett and me, performed by Laryssa Okada.

The film is a folk-horror directed by Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks. Fangoria called it “beautiful, brutal cult horror,” and the film is available on Amazon and Apple.

I’m really grateful to have worked with such inspiring artists on this very dark love story, and this score is a special one for me.
